I'm coming a bit late to the "asteroid explosion" party, but it always struck me as something put in just so they could fit in another special effect... Even with the idea of flint/steel sparks, we're talking about an explosion here, not just sparks. Whatever.

That said, I couldn't care less if Adywan "fixes it" or not, it's never bothered me too terribly much.

To be honest, I've seen it that way for so long that I actually think its removal would be more than a little jarring. :)

Do you think it was a mistake, MJ? It was an odd choice, for sure. :p I can't remember if Ady has commented on this or not. I never understood why it was there or why it happened. If it wasn't there, it might tighten up the action.

P.S. A guy on my MSN contact list has that quote in your sig as his personal message or whatever you call it. :)

Maybe the only real mistake was adding a sound effect in space.  That would probably make almost every movie set in outer space (except for "2001") a mistake, though. :)

As for my sig quote, yeah, that's a favorite one amongst us programmer types.  Drives people crazy when they can't figure it out. :)

We should sue George Lucas.

George Lucas can suck my balls! This guy not only irrevocably destroy Star Wars with his horrendous prequels but he also won’t let us have the OT the way it was suppose to be. Hayden Christensen was the biggest miscasting IN CINEMA HISTORY! So was Jake Lloyd! I can’t believe the scripts he wrote!! Hey George, EVER HEARD OF HIRING WRITERS AND DIRECTORS?!!! The ’06 DVDs was a spit in our faces and a huge disgrace to the cinema industry. Now he is releasing his shit versions again FOR THE FORTH TIME! I’ve had it with this guy, lets sue him!!! If I ever come in contact with George Lucas I will seriously climb over all his bodyguards and knock the shit out of him! Lets get some knowledge together, hire some lawyers and sue this ASSHOLE!

I'm guessing this is an attempt at humor/satire.  If so, it's pretty lame, actually!

There, I corrected it for you.

Am I the only one to see the irony in people who normally spit on George Lucas' name for adding all sorts of unnecessary things to the OT are now suggesting adding all sorts of unnecessary things to ESB? :)

Many of you have said that ESB is damn near perfect.  Why not just leave it alone, and let Adywan do what he set out to do (correct the color, fix mistakes, and snip out things he doesn't like)?  All of these suggestions ("Add more Imperials!  Let's see more Rebel deaths!  I want to see Luke Skywalker eating a Twinkie!  Get rid of that snowflake on Chewbacca's foot!") are neat as a concept, but are either unworkable (for one man on his single PC) or just plain unnecessary.

IMHO, of course. :)

Ady, I know that you're dead-set on removing all of the SE Wampa shots.  I also know that there seems to be quite a few people that want (or, perhaps more precisely, don't mind) the SE Wampa shots to stay in.  It's up to you, of course, but perhaps a compromise could be reached: leave out all of the SE Wampa shots except the one after Luke slices his arm off.  This would keep the mystery of exactly what the Wampa looks like right up to the very end, where get get our first (and final) look at what is scaring the shit out of the characters (and us).  Jaws has been brought up a number of times as a fine example of "less is better," but even Jaws managed to reveal the entire shark towards the end, and IMHO served as an effective way of saying, "Okay, folks, we've been hinting around about this sucker, so here it is in all its glory.  Please try not to wet your pants."

Again, Ady, it's totally your decision, but perhaps this could serve as food for thought, particularly since you aren't even close to doing the actual editing yet.

Did anyone follow through on sending GL back the '04 DVD with the GOUT set?
Time

Or maybe no one decided to do it because they realized that it was a stupid, ill-conceived stunt.  So you send back the '04 DVDs from the GOUT; so what?  Lucas still has your money!  "Oh, look... another bunch of those pissy, whiny fanboys sent me their DVDs.  Good, I'll use them as drink coasters.  Honey, pass me another glass of $1,000 champaigne, will you?"  It's like protesting the sweatshop manufacture of Nike shoes by cutting off your legs.

I like having McDiarmid there as a visual continuity match to the rest of the series, but I can't say I liked his reading. The difference in his delivery between TESB and ROTJ is annoying (though I do understand it; it's been 20 years since he did ROTJ); he sounds like he's half-asleep! And yes, that "enhanced" dialog adds nothing to the scene other than an unnecessary link back to the prequels.

The technical challenge of overhauling this scene while keeping McDiarmid in it (I'm sorry, but I can't see going back to monkey-face) would seem to be insurmountable. If Ady can pull it off, he'll truly be a Ghod Amongst Ghods.

EU books: Thats it..
Time
IMHO, the only really decent EU books are Zahn's, even though I think he may have gone to the Thrawn well one too many times. :-) Oh, and that three-book series that attempted to flesh out a backstory for Han Solo; those were a fun read. Those are the only ones I've bothered to keep; the other EU books I've gotten over the years (not many of them) ended up in a "stuff I don't need any more and can get rid of" box.

First-time poster, blown away by Ady's EP4-R, can't wait for more!

The Bespin Betrayal plot line is resolved in Han not "accidentally" shooting Lando in the Sarlacc.

Which reminds me of another ROTJ change that Ady could make. In this scene, the original lines of dialog were:
Han - Don't move, Lando!
Lando - No, wait! I thought you were blind!
Han - It's all right. Trust me!
Lando - A little higher! Just a little higher!

In the SEs, Han's second line was changed to "It's all right, I can see a lot better!", which was shoehorned in and always sounded "rushed" to me. IMHO, the original line harkens to the "resolving the Bespin betrayal" concept, and flows a lot better. (I'm not a knee-jerk Lucas hater, but this is one of the few SE/2004 changes that totally baffled me.) It seems to me that Ady could restore the original dialog easily, as the background music during that sequence hasn't changed.

Regarding DL discs...

Most people recommend the Verbatim DVD+DL discs, simply because they've proven to be the most reliable and compatible of all the DL discs out there. (And don't do DVD-DL anything, as it has horrible compatibility.) Check VideoHelp.com for more information than you could possibly need. :-)

Adywan, I've been browsing this forum for a little while now, and I just wanted to say "kudos!" to you for your "Revisited" project. I found out about it from a posting in the RixGrafix.com forum, and I must say that your Episode IV edit was well worth the 24-hour process of torrenting the DVD-5 ISO.

I do have a humble suggestion, though. Earlier in (I believe) this thread, someone made mention of the font used for the DVD-5 menus (which, if I'm not mistaken, is Times New Roman). Is there any way you could change the font for the DVD-9 to use the same font as the official DVDs (it's called Trajan, which is available for download as the "Episode I" font)? Aside from looking better than Times New Roman (which, I'll have to admit, gives off an "average product" vibe to me), it would tie in to the look and feel of the official discs.

Like I said, it's totally up to you. We're gonna love 'em no matter what you do. :)
