Just a little update on the MJ 4K projects I’ve been working on those past weeks.
As well as a full 4K AI Upscale of the whole This Is It movie (using the last and best Topaz Video AI 4 profiles and the 3D BluRay with the higher bitrate), I’ve also been working on a redux based on this new 4K AI Upscale.
The goal of this redux is to get closer to a rehearsal movie experience, rather than rehearsal sequences and behind the scenes sequences assembled in a movie. Every sequence not including Michael has also been removed for better pacing.
As an example, the redux isn’t beginning anymore with the TII dancers interviews, but directly with the opening credits and Wanna Be Starting Something.
The original movie included the whole This Is It press conference during the Wanna Be Starting Something rehearsal. This is not the case anymore in the redux.
I also used this opportunity to bring back most of the 3D sequences intended for the concert in the movie. As a result, the redux will be 10 minutes shorter than the theatrical release.
I will update this post when the project is ready. Of course, you will need to have an official copy of the TII movie at home to be able to watch it.

Rendering another preview, this time of the podrace. I’ve since done a major revision of the grade again, and I’m very happy with the results, though I find the colors of this section could really use a shot by shot grade, which is outside the intentions of this initial release, but will for sure be taken into account for the later releases.
