nothing after 1949 is REALLY Batman. You had Adam West in the 60’s…and then a slew of shit-covered, muppet-fart campy movies…then the ‘dark knight’ trilogy…(which I enjoyed a lot but doesn’t compare to the serials of the 40’s)

Finnius has spoken. All who deign to oppose my view shall spend eternity sucking wet farts out of dead pigeons.

Just…what?

The Big Lebowski (1998): 9/10

Really great. I loved the direction, the acting, the story and the characters.

One of my favorite movies. Gets better every time ya watch it.

Also, Yeah, Evil Dead 2 and Shaun of the Dead are also great. More of my favorites.
I don’t care much for Army of Darkness (loved it when I was a teenager, but find it painful now), but Evil Dead is one of my favorite horror films (one of my absolute favorite films flat-out) and Evil Dead 2 is one of my favorite horror comedies.

I haven’t seen the first Evil Dead yet, it’s just the one that appealed the least to me. I’ll probably get around to watching it soon. Also, why do you find Army of Darkness painful?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016): 3/10

After watching it again, I dislike it even more. I don’t see how anyone could call this a great film.

Speaking of great films, I watched a ton of them this week.

The Big Lebowski (1998): 9/10

Really great. I loved the direction, the acting, the story and the characters. I did feel that Donny’s death came out of nowhere, as his character was a minor one.

Shaun of the Dead (2004): 9/10

After loving Scott Pilgrim so much, I figured I’d check out the rest of Edgar Wright’s work, and suffice to say, this movie did not disappoint.

Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn (1987): 10/10

I liked this film just as much I a liked Army of Darkness, which is to say, I thought it was fantastic.

Hot Fuzz (2007): 9/10

Again, I really loved this film, perhaps even more so than Shaun of the Dead. I loved all the humour, and the characters were all very likable. SPOILERS: I did think that Timothy Dalton should have been more subtle as the villain, though this is a minor gripe.

The World’s End (2013): 9/10

What a great way to end the trilogy. The plot was so imaginative, and the actors and all of their chemistry was fantastic.

Paul (2011): 4/10

I had a hankering to watch more Pegg/Frost friendship, but sadly this was what I thought it would be. Take two really funny actors, and stick them in a terrible movie, and you get a pretty poor movie.

So many great films, and only a couple of bad ones.

Honestly, I could not care less what transpires in Episodes VIII and IX.

After watching the juvenile fan fiction trash film The Force Awakens, which was without question the single worst movie I have ever seen, there is nothing in the world which could convince me to watch Episodes VIII and IX.

Bahahahaha. Guess you haven’t seen many movies. This film was honestly on a pure technical level the most well-made Star Wars film to date. Now is it my favorite? No. And you don’t have to like it at all. But to say it’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen is just beyond ridiculous. I think the prequels suck, but none of them even come close to the worst movie I have ever seen. Even Batman and Robin, mentioned here as an example of a worse film, doesn’t come close. Wake me up when you’ve seen The Room or any Ed Wood film.

The Room? Bad?

What about the people who liked that film prior to Gareth Edwards being confirmed as director of Rogue One? Also, I’m guessing that most Star Wars fans dislike Robocop 2 even though it is directed by Irvin Kershner.

I really like Robocop 2, the only thing letting it down is it’s Robocop 2. Most of things it does had already been done in the first film only sometimes with less flare.
The scene where the previous Robocop 2s are shown to the board of OCP is genuinely funnier than anything in the first film and the scenes with Murphy’s wife are better than the same sort of thing in the first movie. But it’s redundant because something like that had already been done.

I started watching Robocop 2 after really loving the first one, but turned it off after I realised they had wiped Murphy’s brain in bewtween films.

Totally underselling Ant-man, that was great. There’s something to be said for Thor and First Avenger. AND you’ve completely neglected AOS, Daredevil and Jessica Jones.

Ant-Man was mediocre at best. And I have seen AOS and Daredevil, while Daredevil was great from the get go, I never bothered watching AOS after the first couple of episodes. I’ve heard it got better from there, but if a show doesn’t hook me in, generaly I don’t bother with the rest. Also, First Avenger was bleh, and Thor was bad.

Really? I mean of course none of the movies is “high art”, but “mediocre”, “bleh” or “bad”? I can’t agree, all of the movies were IMHO quite enjoyable, even when each of the movies had problems.

Agants of SHIELD indeed got better. The first episodes were pretty boring, but after they found out they’re working for HYDRA it got much better. I can recommend giving it another try if you will have some free time in the future

I want to keep watching, but it’s not my highest priority at the moment. And yes, Ant-Man was mediocre, First Avenger was bleh, and there were more bad things in Thor than good.

Ranking the Batman films

Well, I’ve just re-evaluated all the Batman films, and I’ve come up with a new list, quite different from my older one.

  1. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993): 9/10
It’s only real problem are that it feels a little rushed, probably as a result of keeping in a 70-80 minite runtime, and it’s pacing suffers as a result.
  2. Batman (1989): 7/10
Very fun, Keaton and Nicholson are perfectly cast, and it has a great visual asthetic, though the plot is a little muddy, and I feel Bruce Wayne’s character could have been developed more (e.g. when he has that outburst to the Joker, it feels out of character compared to what we’ve seen of him so far).
  3. Batman: The Movie (1966): 7/10
The plot is pretty stupid, and the acting is hammy, but that’s what it’s meant to be. The film tries to be an entertaining, irreverent watch, and succeeds with flying colours.
  4. Batman Begins (2005): 7/10
Best of the Nolan trilogy, though sometimes it’s more silly elements (Scarecrow gas, hallucinogenic tea), gets in the way of the gritty, realistic route the rest of the film takes, and Katie Holmes is more than questionable.
  5. Batman Returns (1992): 6/10
Though the tone suffers throughout, and the Penguin is pretty lame, Burton’s direction is great, and Max Shreck and Catwoman are entertaining as hell.
  6. The Dark Knight (2008): 6/10
The visuals are quite boring, a little too realistic (if I wanted to see a regular city, I would go into a regular city), the Joker’s plan is completely stupid, he himself is underdeveloped, and the entire thrid act seems forced, but this is still a pretty good watch.
  7. The Dark Knight Rises (2012): 5/10
Numerous plot holes and silly moments that don’t go with the realistic tone, and once more the villains motives are completely contrived, but for every bad moment, there is a good.
  8. Batman Forever (1995): 4/10
Okay visual style, though very over the top, and the plot is extremely silly and stupid, though Val Kilmer’s Bruce is fairly interesting, and has a nice arc.
  9. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016): 3/10
Very poor. Stupid character decisions, poor direction, overload of CGI, tacked on story elements, and a horrendous ending. Characters are also very boring.
  10. Batman and Robin (1997): 2/10
It’s sort of fun during the over the top action sequences, but otherwise it’s just plain bad.

What a change in opinion.
