The Evil Dead (1981) – ★★★1/2

Evil Dead II (1987) – ★★★1/2

I re-watched these, and I have to say that I liked II more this time around, but I can’t bring myself to change my rating due to my nitpick about the abridged recap being too different and feeling rushed. I want to fanedit the recap to be more like the original plan, using footage from the first film to recap.

Army of Darkness (1992) – ★★★1/2

After re-watching the first two I finally got to seeing this one. I watched the director’s cut (original version; pre theatrical release), but I’ve also looked at some of the differences between the three different cuts for some reference in hindsight.

Possible SPOILER talk:

I definitely want to fanedit this one. I’ll want to replace Linda in the opening with footage from Evil Dead II, and replace “I’m not that good,” with the theatrical re-shoot line “Good, bad, I’m the guy with the gun.” It would be nice if I could use the end of Evil Dead II in the beginning of Army of Darkness, but that will be a more difficult task; I’ll at least want to try it, though.

I also want to create an alternate ending, since the original ending can seem unsatisfying, and the theatrical ending is a joke.

Using the original ending, I’ll cut out the first ‘fifth drop’ that he takes in the cave (maybe also shortening the dream montage to remove what is probably sounds of the apocalypse), and when he awakens and leaves the cave, it will abruptly cut to credits before his facial expression reacts to the sight of post-apocalyptic England.

That way the feel of the first two films’ endings will be kept as it is in the original ending, but it won’t be an unsatisfying, unresolved ending. He simply got back to his own time.

Now I really want to go back and re-watch these. I watched them all earlier this year and loved every one of them. Since Ash vs. Evil Dead season two isn’t living up to the promise of the first episode maybe it’s time to go back to the classics. I also didn’t hate the remake, as many people did (I actually prefer it to AVED).

At the end of Felicity Jones’ interview with Jimmy Fallon tonight they played what I’m fairly certain is the first clip we’ve seen of the movie. It’s from the shootout with the stormtroopers in the Mos Eisleyesque location. Giacchino’s music is very recognizable. My brain lit up with excitement.

I’m sure it’ll be up online soon if it isn’t already.

ETA: Here it is:

That feels just like old skool Star Wars. Love it. Can’t wait.

I hope they’ve made Rosh less whiny this time.

Oh wait, were you talking about the books?

The ones by jeffery brown? Yes!

How old are you exactly?

A kid and a big fan of star wars. Please do not say anything rash.

So, uh, I don’t think I’m the youngest forum poster anymore. I’m almost disappointed.

They’ve revamped Jedi Academy?

I Googled it and the closest I could find to “new” Jedi Academy novels was a children’s book series from 2014.

EDIT: It looks like this, so I highly doubt that this si what he’s talking about.

Actually I think that is what he’s talking about, as according to Wookieepedia, the “original trilogy” of books is over, and they’ve started another series with a new author and characters

American Pie (1999)

I thought I’d despise this, as it had all the things I hate about traditional comedies (crude gags, poor visual aesthetic, overused pop songs, misogyny, and the token “sad moment” in which the characters talk to each other about their wrongdoings), but I didn’t hate it.

Neither did I like it.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

What makes General Grievous one of the worst characters to be associated with Star Wars ever?

 1. His name

 2. His voice

 3. His cough

 4. His “spider arms”

 5. His patented windmill lightsaber attack

 6. His utter dearth of real characterization

 7. The amount of screentime he has in TCW

 8. All of the above

I choose 8. Grievous is my most hated character in the SW universe. I would have added in “When people defend ROTS by saying Grievous was cool.”

I finally watched Suicide Squad, and it was a lot better than I thought it would be. I absolutely hated both Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice, but I didn’t despise this movie. It wasn’t good, but I enjoyed myself while watching it. The characters were sort of fun, and I liked the style of the movie. It was fine.

Blu-Ray Buys (NOT Collections!)
Time

It’s not a Blu-Ray, but I just bought a two disc DVD of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. My local DVD shop only sells the single disc version, which is really annoying. I bought that version a few weeks back (thankfully it was really cheap), and was peeved, because on the movie commentary, Kevin Smith keep referring to bonus features that the one disc version didn’t include. For a second hand store, the case and disc quality was super good, and I’m glad I made the purchase.
