Alien: Covenant (2017)
Not a fan of anything in the series since Resurrection (although Prometheus came close), but I quite enjoyed this. Had flaws, mostly in character decisions, but the film looked great, I liked the music, and the acting was strong, particularly Michael Fassbender in dual roles. I’d say it was pretty good.

The theatrical is mostly better. You should check out Resurrection, that’s awesome.

It’s the epitome of late 90s/early 2000s pop music, with that rock and roll instrumental backdrop but whiny nasal vocals, but I like it better than a lot of pop music from recent years.

I quit reading Life Debt because good god was it bloody awful. I didn’t expect it to make the first book look amazing, but it did.

Not the best. Upped the gore and splatter, at the expense of a good story and interesting characters. Had some good moments but didn’t do it for me.

Okay, I got sucked back in to this franchise. I was surprised to see that this film wasn’t particularly bad, but sadly not as gripping as the original. I really liked Tobin Bell’s expanded role, and Donnie Wahlberg wasn’t bad, but I didn’t feel any of the victims had the fun interplay that Dr Gordon and Adam had in the first installment. But it had some cool traps and the editing was much improved so, eh, I’ll give it a pass.

I’m a hundred pages in Aftermath: Life Debt and the author has turned Sinjir into a sassy, whiny, gay stereotype, which is pissing me off. Also, they’ve gone back to using “kriff” as an expletive.
Saw (2004)
It didn’t live up to horror classics like Halloween or A Nightmare on Elm Street and I hated the early 2000s editing trends (jump cuts, hectic camera movement, jerky frame slow motion), but I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I sort of want to watch the sequels but I’ve heard they get more outlandish and gory as they go along, so I might leave the series here.
Anyway, I give it a seven out of ten.
I just finished reading Aftermath. It’s not the best, or even particularly good overall, but I didn’t mind it and I think “frag” is a far better substitute for “fuck” than “kriff” ever was.

Has anyone on here seen The Human Centipede films? I made the mistake of reading the plot synopsis for each film on Wikipedia and found them to be quite shocking. Are they actually that disturbing?
To anyone who has read them, is the X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole and Aaron Allston worth reading? I’ve heard that they’re some of the better Star Wars books out there.
“Across the Stars” is more than enough to put it in front of ROTS and possibly RO.
I really disagree. I absolutely love the ROTS soundtrack. I think it by and far the most emotional soundtrack in the whole series behind ESB. The unique war drums at the beginning of the film, Grievous’s theme, the music when Anakin talks to Padme about his dream (I used this in my ROTJ edit), Order 66 music, Anakin’s Dark Deeds, Battle of the Heroes, the Immolation scene music. The soundtrack for ROTS does a massive load of heavy lifting for the emotion of the film.
I adore every track on the ROTS soundtrack. I could listen to it all day.
I didn’t hate it at all, but I was rather disappointed with the Darth Plagueis novel. I read Cloak of Deception and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter prior to reading Plagueis, because I knew they were referenced in it, and I honestly preferred them both. I’m not sure, but the novel only grabbed me and held me in suspense for a handful of scenes. There’s nothing objectively terrible with it, but I felt that it was overrated and I was disappointed whilst reading it.
Riz Ahmed is quite a handsome man.
