Star Wars "Official" Canon Content Thread
Time

My friend lent me the trade paperbacks of the Darth Vader and Star Wars comics, which I’ve been reading in chronological order. I just finished the Darth Vader line and I really loved it. It was really interesting seeing how Vader was promoted to his rank in TESB, and

It was immensely satisfying to see Vader deal with his possible successors, especially Karbin.

I really loved Aphra as well and will be starting her comic soon. The main Star Wars comic is pretty good as well, but apparently it goes down hill, especially in the art department.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread
Time

I used to adore the 2003 Clone Wars miniseries, book and comic series’ and find them far superior to the 2008 TV show, but the more I think about it the more I feel I prefer the newer series. In the earlier comics and books, which were made between the release of AOTC and ROTS, it seems that every time Anakin is used he has to use the dark side to solve every problem, and overall is portrayed as a depressed, repressed, angry and aggressive character, like his character in AOTC turned up to eleven, which I guess is how the writers thought he would be in the third movie, in which he seemed to have mellowed out a bit. It wasn’t until the very end of those series’ that he was actually portrayed anything like he was in ROTS, because of course by then the movie was basically completed. It also suffers from a disjointed overarching ploy, which I guess the 2008 series has as well, but to a far lesser extent. I feel that the 2008 series feels more like Star Wars whereas the older books and comics felt like highly stylised edgier versions of the films. Also one series has the novel Jedi Trial which is garbage, and the other did not.

Not my post, but - thoughts? https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/7nxyy0/spoilers_the_importance_of_poe_reys_interaction/?st=jc00bqeb&sh=1a8b0e07

I appreciate the idea behind this exchange, but it’s another instance where JJ dropped the ball in TFA. Poe is the one who rushes Finn from the Falcon while Rey watches, and they’re both standing in the group of people watching the map being reassembled. I assumed that they had met during these scenes. The meaningful encounter should have been with Rose.

Now you’ve made me put my fanfiction hat on.

So what if after the speeder run, Rose had said:
"This is how we win. Not by fighting what we hate…"
Then she loses consciousness.

Then during the final scene on the Falcon, she comes to and Finn rushes over to her, followed by Rey.
Finn: "Are you okay?"
Rose: "Of course."
Finn: "Oh, Rose, this is…"
Rey: "Rey."
Rose: "I know. You saved each other."
Finn and Rey exchange looks. Finn looks back to Rose.
Finn: "You were trying to tell me something, after the crash."
Rose: (waving away his prompt) "I thought I was dying."
Finn: (insistent) "You said that this was how we would win, not by fighting what we hate…"
Rose: (gazing at Finn) "…but by saving what we love."
She looks to Rey.
“You’re a lucky guy, Finn.”

Cutting through the misunderstanding, Finn kisses Rose with a moderate amount of passion.

Rey is extremely glad about it, and goes to hang out with Chewie and the Porgs.

Oh man am I glad that didn’t happen it would have been so cringeworthy.

Lol…although how is he a descendant of a human from future earth? I thought that was Jabba.

I am glad you got a chuckle as that was my intent…

There was SW book that followed a group of 5000 humans from Earth in the 25th Century who fall into a black hole or some other plot device and end up in a galaxy far away in a time long long (long) ago. The first Solo was part of the 5000 humans. The humans then go on to populate the galaxy and are the source of all human we see in SW.

Well, this book was never finished nor released, and thus not part of Legends or Canon, thankfully for us all.

Two 19s put together still isn’t very old warb. I’ve known plenty of people in their 40s that still have an active romantic life that haven’t been married for a long time. It’s all mindset bud. It’s more than trying, but not a ton more than mindset. I’m not saying you can win over any girl just with personality and self confidence, but if you keep trying AND you have a good personality you will eventually win. And how you present yourself is a big factor too, much larger than your natural appearance. Women aren’t as superficial on the whole as men in my experience. Obviously there are exceptions and everybody likes eye candy but as far as real interactions go, I’d say an ugly man who is dressed well has a much better chance than a handsome slob.

Damn, I’m an ugly slob.

So I’ve been getting kinda curious about the New Jedi Order series. Yes, I know that most fans don’t like them, heck even many of the SW authors themselves don’t seem to think too much of them. But I do regardless feel like picking up Vector Prime just for the sake of having experienced it.

So, is Vector Prime passable, just as a curiosity, or should I avoid any of these books like the plague? I’m also wondering how Vector Prime works on its own? I have no intentions of reading the entire New Jedi Order series, but I am intrigued enough to actually spend money on buying the first book in the series, if only for the sake of having it in my collection.

Vector Prime is one of the worst books in the series, and I find it quite boring. So no, unless you’re reading it to get to the great stuff that comes after it in the series, don’t read it.

Oh yeah I just want to mention how much I adore the over the top acting by Mark Hamill from Kylo’s point of view of his attempted murder.

Also, I hope that Kylo redeems himself but Rey taps into her anger and still murders him in cold blood, like in the last novel of the Legacy of the Force series with Jaina and Darth Caedus. I’m not banking on that, and I won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t happen, but still, it’d be cool.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support
Time

I’m one of the most positive and laid back people I know. I’m never openly depressed, and my friends and acquaintances all find me a chill guy, but ever since my parents split, and quite a bit before that too, my home life has generally been pretty shitty. This sounds absolutely shallow and lame compared to some people’s problems, in this very thread even, but these days I’m finding it hard to keep my chin up and stay happy, since both of my parents lives are so shitty, and they are both so depressed at the moment, and obviously, that rubs off on me. I writing this isn’t going to change any of that, but it’s nice to get off my chest.

Ranking the Star Wars films

I’d be curious to find out when was the last time everyone here who ranks ROTS in the top half actually saw the film. I’m not being facetious, I seriously want to know if it’s something you guys watch regularly or if you haven’t reexamined it in a while.

I rank it fourth, not including The Last Jedi, which I’m waiting to see again in order to confirm the ranking. I watched Revenge of the Sith a couple of days ago when watching all the films before seeing TLJ. It’s still really good.

I am kind of curious if they’ll end the Poe comic soon. He can only be looking for Lor San Tekka for so long. It’d be nice if they jumped ahead to after TLJ, but I don’t know if they’d allow that sort of thing.

They did that with the Republic comics between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and they were awesome. I hope they do something like that this time.
