I said you said (or alluded to) the film being NEAR perfect.

Still wrong. I have never used “near perfect” to describe a film either.

If you only have a couple of minor problems with a film that means you must think it’s near perfect. Just because you didn’t say it doesn’t mean that’s not message you conveyed.

Also didn’t you rate all of the OT films 10/10 recently?

Sorry but there is no consistency between OT and TFA, except for the stuff that TFA rehased.

I like the OT for the following reasons:

  • Simplistic plot with things bubbling under the surface

  • Layered and colorful characters

  • A good soundtrack

  • Good action

  • Immersion into a world I will never get to experience

etc.

TFA has all of these in spades and in terms of the action and a couple of minor things it outclasses the films that came before it.

It makes perfect sense that two people who like crap films like TFA would not like masterpiece like Blade Runner.

You think ROTJ is near perfect so fucking eat me.

I have never used “perfect” when describing a film. It is bad to make things up, especially when you are in the presence of the truth.

I said you said (or alluded to) the film being NEAR perfect you fucking twit. You said that Leia being force sensitive was the only problem you had with the film (somehow) ergo that would mean you think it’s nearly perfect.

The first hour of Alien was slow too but it was well worth it when the shit hit the fan.

The first hour of Alien is actually the best part of the film.

Good but slow build up and better yet there’s a good amount of payoff. I prefer the second hour because you know…the plot is being pushed forward consistently.

You seriously have things mixed up. If anything, first half of Alien is all about plot. When it comes to plot, that is a textbook example. The second part is more of a thrill/action ride.

It does set everything up nicely but I found myself dozing off every now and again but like I said everything paid off in the end.

It starts to make sense why would you like crap like TFA.

I like TFA for the same reasons I like the OT.

You mean wanting to fornicate with an actress/actor is fanfictiony? What?

Maybe you need a sampler of a lot of fan fiction.

Also all I said was mere speculation about if Poe and Rey were going to be a thing. I didn’t say anything about how they were going to fuck and under what pretenses the sex was going to be under.

I really hope that doesn’t become of thing. Rey should just be Rey.

Just because Luke didn’t end up with anyone in the OT doesn’t mean Rey has to follow suit. Her character shouldn’t hinge on being in a relationship; a romantic relationship should add to her character.

My comment had nothing to do with Luke. I also think that here having a romantic relationship would be out of place, considering how Rey is fiercely independent, to a fault.

That’s why if done right a relationship involving Rey would work! Seeing her grow close to someone, breaking down her barriers, learning that relationships are a give and take thing etc. would make for a lot of character growth. And having a romantic relationship could effect her personality in other ways which is good because I certainly don’t want her to stay the same for the entirety of the trilogy. If we can’t have that then at least have her grow a deep bond with Luke.

Wow, with all this attention to Portmann and Ridley, surprised no one is going to bring up Isaac. I’d die for a shirtless Poe scene in Episode VIII.

Amen to this too. I wonder if Poe and Rey will have something as the novelization set up. I wish they conversed in TFA even if their interaction wasn’t setting up a potential romance.

She’s good looking and has a beautiful body, so even if she was wearing a burka people would still think she’s sexualized. I wouldn’t say the same about Ridley…

Natalie’s hot but I would still smash Ridley so hard. Daisys fucking gorgeous

I can amen that brother

EDIT:

Also on top of being smoking hot she can also be just adorable when she wants to.

I can understand why it might not be enjoyable, but it is a technically good film.

It’s good looking but I found a lot of the characters to be flat and the pacing to be too slow and the payoff wasn’t enough to warrant the slow pacing. The first hour of Alien was slow too but it was well worth it when the shit hit the fan. I didn’t feel that with Blade Runner.

Yeah. I totally understand. I felt the same way when I saw it first. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting, it was much more slow and subdued than I was led on to believe it would be. But the cinematography is amazing, the soundtrack is great, and it’s rife with symbolism and themes begging to be picked apart. It’s less a movie to enjoy and more a movie to admire.

I still have The Final Cut on Blu Ray so I’ll probably watch it some time in the near future. What is your preferred version?

Only ever seen the Final Cut.

I already have it so I’ll probably just stick with that. Exactly how different are the 10,000 versions of this movie anyway?

I mean even if it’s just for the viewers, not for the plot: if characters (men and/or women) are made sexual in some way, is it inherently wrong in movies? It shouldn’t necessarily mean sexual objectification.

If a Rob Zombie or a Michael Bay movie wants to show their characters in a sexual way for no reason that’s not bad because of the types of movies those directors make. Star Wars on the other hand should be better than gratuitous and unnecessary sexualization of it’s characters.

Why should sexualization be inherently wrong in movies?

It’s only bad if it doesn’t add anything to the plot or the character being sexualized. Luke’s bit of sexualization showed the audience that he was progressing. Leia’s sexualization led to a great character moment when she strangled Jabba with the very chains that bound her to him. Anakin and Padme’s sexualization was there for literally no reason.

Since we’re on the topic of unnecessary sexualization in Star Wars…the shots of Anakin without his shirt on counts as sexualization as well.

True…at least George gave a little bit of equal time there. I can’t help but wonder if that was in response to some of the criticism of Padme in AOTC…the way he (mostly) buried Jar Jar after TPM shows he does react to criticism.

In terms of equal treatment one could argue Luke was a bit sexualized in ESB when he was wearing that sleeveless shirt during his training session. When factoring that in it’s hard to say.

Hopefully this time the deleted scenes include something “more meaningful” that can be inserted in future edits. But there will probably be just more 10 second snippets with timecodes etc, haha! I’m just wishing for almost anything to replace / alter the Rathtar scene. 😛

I like the way you think… 😉

I’d like to see more scenes spent on just the characters, their background, their dream and struggle, but I doubt there are any. A nice addition could be been something related to Ren and his table of ashes.

It doesn’t have to be anything super overt. It could just be Storm Troopers gossiping about Kylo’s peculiar habits.

:\ That would be a “bummer”. I’d rather see Ren pouring Lor San Tekka’s ashes on his table while thinking over his death.

I would prefer that but what I was proposing was something that’s not overt. But not only would him talking over the ashes make him more menacing it would also add to the mental illness component of his character. Though I’m sure they’ll expand on his mental state in the sequels.

Good. Since 2/3 of the other main female characters were sexualized it would be refreshing to see one that doesn’t get the same treatment. She can still have a romance but keep her attire PG.

At least The Force Awakens clearly respected her enough to not use her for any blatant fanservice.

Are you serious ? Every piece of dialogue when she’s with Han and with the Falcon aren’t fanservice by your books ?

By the way: Padmé wasn’t sexualized either, although she was hot. It would be impossible to sexualize Rey.

Yeah because having Padme’s midriff expossed for like 1/2 of the movie isn’t sexualizing her.

As dumb as that outfit is, at least it’s an outfit. The one where she is wearing a full outfit and teenaged-boy Georgie decides to have her midriff exposed by an animal clawing at it is even worse.

Worst of all having her be sexualized doesn’t have any messages or payoffs for Padme’s character. When Leia was put in the gold Bikini she at least was able to choke the life out of the being that oppressed her.

Since we’re on the topic of unnecessary sexualization in Star Wars…the shots of Anakin without his shirt on counts as sexualization as well.
