^ Yep. I loved it. It felt like a horror movie and it was great. It showed that Vader was powerful, but it wasn’t over the top like some of the video games.
He really didn’t do anything we haven’t seen him do before (force pull, choke, levitate. Saber murder.), but seeing him do it all in one scene in a tight corridor to terrified people… damn that was cool!

^ this

I hate when people say he was OP in that scene because they fail to realize this is a Master of The Dark Side facing up against Rebellion Soldiers. That’s akin to them fighting a God.

Been thinking about this film more over the past couple of days…I think it may be time for my 4th viewing.

It seems to get better and better with repeated viewings, though the first act doesn’t improve all that much.

Not for me. I still like the movie very much but my first impression of Rogue One is that it was great but the poorly written characters and the wonkiness of the 1st two acts lessens my enjoyment of the film.

Another note: I know the ending with Vader hacking the Rebels was literal ‘Star Wars porn’, but it was that moment that really helped elevate the character of Darth Vader for me. We always knew Vader was a bad guy, but we never truly saw at his full potential. The prequels showed us a “saddened, frustrated Vader” whereas the original trilogy showed us the “powerful Lord Vader” without getting too violent and too far gone into his backstory.

In RO, we get a look at him healing from his wounds and going ape-sh*t on the Rebels. This is what we’ve needed for so long. The best part of the movie, to be honest…

Yep. It’s a missing piece that should have been in the OT and now Vader vs Rebel Soldiers is no longer mere musings but something that has actually been put to film.

So, no?

Not wanting to die and being generally power hungry are two different things in my opinion. Would you say Anakin was only looking for UNLIMITED POWA when he went turned to the Dark Side? I mean initially of course.

Immortality and in general discovering the intricacies of The Force and how to bend it to his will at a cosmic level. This turned into an obsession that almost drove him mad. Even his musings, the way he talks and carries him set him apart from a lot of Sith.

I’m not saying he’s the deepest character in all of Star Wars but for Dark Siders he is an anomaly.

Also if you’re expecting/wishing for PALPATINE’S Master to be somehow civil or be somehow emotionally detached as it pertains to taking lives you are absolutely crazy.

Nope. I wouldn’t expect any TPM+ Sith to show depth or nuance.

So you’re assuming just because he enjoys killing people he has no depth whatseoever? Sounds reasonable.

double-bladed lightsaber or a bunch of Jedis fighting at once

There’s nothing wrong with either of these things. Admittedly the latter seems cheap but I think that’s due to:

  1. Them wiping out inconsequential hostiles

  2. Lack of an emotional connection towards the Jedi Order

rather than the idea itself.

Well the first one seems like it would end with the wielder getting cut in half

That’s what practice sabers are for.

and both sound like a 12 year old’s idea of what is cool with Force users. Although, if Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had to put those things on screen, they would probably find a way to make it look brilliant.

Having that without substance is what a 12 year old would find cool but eh. As long as the story and characters are well written I don’t care if the action is over the top. If that means I think like a 12 year old then I’m fine with that.

Disney hasn’t done a single thing right in 5 years. No OOT. Two mediocre schlock movies. One of them entirely cribbed from the original. And a bunch of annoying people who have different opinions from mine spamming the internet later.

FTFY hermano.

And what have we got?

Vader vs. Predator. Vader vs. Magneto.

First I’m hearing of it…

2. Lack of an emotional connection towards the Jedi Order

People don’t develop emotional connections to “orders”. They develop emotional connections with characters. Slapping eleventy Jedi on screen was a very poor decision.

I formed an emotional connection to the Rebellion because of my connection with Luke, Han and Leia. Just like with Alderaan…

Making them all get wiped out with almost no effort by hysterically inaccurate stormtroopers was even worse and lazy.

I think the writing around it was exponentially more lazy as it required the entirety of the Jedi Order to be morons so that the Clone Army could be created.
