The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **

7 of the last 10 reviews on IMDB:

  1. “The Worst of the Very Worst, Should be Forbidden”
  2. “This Movie Is Stupid”
  3. “Leaves A Lot To Be Desired”
  4. “The Fart Awakens And Stinks up The Galaxy Far Far Away”
  5. “So bad I had to create a review account”
  6. “Imagine if someone gave you money for presenting someone else’s work/script/idea”
  7. “Not terrible, not great either”

Which one is your favorite?

For what it’s worth, and in the interest of balance… IMDB.com: Star Wars - The Force Awakens, rating of 8.1/10 - from 651,474 users.

Still? You would think a genuinely terrible film would have a worse score since “the awakening” happened.

And in general I’m not even sure why this is even being discussed as other people’s opinions shouldn’t hold any weight even if there is a shift. If so a lot of us are about to feel differently about Return of The Jedi.

Awesome! Where the hell did you manage that?

Moderating a film screening I went to.

Damn…did you ask him anything about TLJ?

Obviously. He told me who Rey’s parents were and everything.

Seriously though, I told him I wouldn’t ask him anything about it (he said good because he has snipers trained on his head at all times), but I did have to ask him what it’s like working with John Williams, which he basically said was incredible.

Super cool guy, he really is a genuine fan and seems very excited about it.

I would have carefully worked in the “Singular or plural” question but I’m sure he relished that.

Called working on TLJ the best experience of his life.

I can imagine so but I can also imagine how hard it must have been writing a follow up that was worthy of the Saga. That unyielding pressure must have caused him to lose a few nights of sleep.

Should the Prequels be more included into the franchise going forward?

We just saw Coruscant briefly in Rogue One, not to mention Bail Organa, played by the same actor as the prequels. TFA made a reference to clone troopers.
And as I’ve said in the past, if Leia had a portrait of Padme or something, it wouldn’t bother me.
Just as long as Jar Jar stays dead. 😉

He’s not dead; he got a worse fate. He’s a street performer who is mocked by everyone because his idiocy is the the reason Palpatine rose to power.

They should be considered canon but should be ignored at all costs. They only should be mentioned when people bring up the fall of Anakin, rise of The Empire, The Clone Wars etc. Not only that but certain things need to be retconned from the PT so that the collective story of Star Wars flows well. They can kill the original Boba Fett and have someone take his identity, they can retcon Midichlorians and they can get Hayden the hell out of Return of The Jedi. Unfortunately they can’t do anything about Padme or Cliegg Lars dying from broken hearts.

And you don’t think having someone new playing Leia would throw people off? A decent percentage of the same people wouldn’t know that Leia was recasted just like they wouldn’t know that she died in a story set between VIII and IX. Having Leia die ion a novel or comic would be good for the more casual fans (but not casual moviegoers) and folks like us. I could see a quite a few people who wouldn’t normally be into that shit picking up (or in the more realistic case pirating) that story to get that closure.

Could be problematic considering we don’t know the extent of Leia’s involvement in VIII. If they cut out some of her performance and place it in IX we could end up seeing her for a few minutes not to mention the story problems that could arise if this isn’t done in a sufficient manner. This whole ordeal is making me nervous.

Same. I would have greatly preferred to have her full role fleshed out in 8 and then recast her for 9 and not alter the script at all. Keeping the story consistent is what is the best course of action in my books.

But what actresses could fill that role that look like Carrie? I don’t they exist lol

The best way to deal with this is of course putting out some comic or novel that has her dying in it. I think it would be better than just addressing her death with a couple lines of throw away dialogue.

I get that it’s Star Wars and the setting/story (and the character of General Leia herself) would actually lend itself to this kind of an ending, but it would be considered in poor taste.

I don’t give a fuck about that as it makes sense story wise. People can take that emotional stuff somewhere else.

They’re going to wrap up the story as best they can, using whatever footage they can. It really wouldn’t surprise me if they end up using digital tools of some sort for certain shots. I feel like that’s an inevitability.

This is making me hope that at least one of the rumors surrounding Leia in VIII is true because if true wrapping up her story would be quite easy. Whatever they end up doing I just hope it’s in the best interest of the story and nothing else.

You might as well not put Rogue One on the list if you’re going to have such a huge gap between that and the next film lol

The topic says to rank the Star Wars films. That’s exactly what I did. Rogue One was not a total disaster, but I like it waaaaay less than the other ones.

I agree with you to some extent but there are 6 dots man. That’s a lot of dots.
