Info: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly - 4k nightmare
Time

I received a few more PMs. I will respond to everyone at the end of the day once I have a better sense of how many members are able to contribute.

I don't think we're going to have a big group of contributors so please let me know how much you can afford to donate to this cause. That will give me a better idea of the amount of funds we've generated.

Anyone who wants to chip in for shipping, contact Lil Brutto, he has put up the total cost of the print itself, we will need a few hundred extra for shipping and once it arrives for scanning, for HDDs to store the scan on.

He will retain ownership of the print itself in this case, so PM him if you are interested in helping with shipping and to sort out the details so we don't clog up the thread with that stuff.

Thanks again to Andrea for negotiating on the ground in Italy.

Following up on poita's post above, anyone who's willing to contribute to this project should contact me via PM and let me know how much money you're able to chip in. I haven't received any PMs yet.

I believe this is a very important project and that's why I'm willing to shell out a majority of the cost but I need your help to make this happen.

Is the Mondo disc even available for sale anymore? It has been unavailable on Amazon for a while.

This BD is identical but region locked:

Here's a screencap comparison from that scene:

Looks great!

I'm pleased to see that your settings also colour correct the background of the opening credits.

I was skimming the various home video formats I have of this film (laserdisc, DVD, BD) and I'm convinced the scene below is not supposed to look like it does on the 4K. It's way too blue.

For instance, the strong blue glow of the horse and around the windows of the building in the background is not present in any of the previous releases.

Once again the IB tech print would be invaluable here. Let's obtain that treasure!

I'm doing what I can working on this 4k remaster though, slowly improving (I hope) my settings.

 kingkong,

My apologies for the multiple requests but I'd really like to see how your regrade affects the greenish background of the 4K screenshot:

Thanks so much.

poita,

Can you post any other images you've received of the film?

Do you have a pic that shows the edge codes?

Do you have any info on the seller? Reputable?

I read some posts on a UK forum about Italian collectors who claim what they're selling is an IB tech print but turns out to be something else. The excuse being the opening credits state the film is "technicolor". Now that's shady.

I will be talkin to the print owner today, we are trying to tee up a local to view the film before pulling the trigger.

If people could PM me re helping to pay for the print, we can see if we have enough to collectively purchase it.

Thanks for the update.

What is the cost of scanning the print? Can you describe the scanning process or perhaps direct me to another thread where you've already scanned another 35mm print? I'm quite intrigued by the idea of doing this and have little understanding of the process.

I'd like to know if the asking price is justified based on the overall condition of the print. As for the condition, any obvious issues? Vinegar smell? Any fading? Any splices? What is the production year of this print? Where is the seller located?

If we acquire the print, will you be able to scan it for us?

Happy to continue this discussion via PM.
