All DC’s upcoming rereleases look like this:
All DC’s upcoming rereleases look like this:
Star Wars is the most sci-fi of all of the films. The droids are really just machines, there’s actually some thought put into going into hyperspace, there is more tech-talk regarding flying, targeting and shooting, the ability to even build a large space station etc and people even dismiss the whole Force thing as it is not based on science like blasters and space stations.
I stumbled on a copy of Star wars Technical Manual Magazine the other day… These may be of some use. I have simply scanned these in no changes were made.
Those are production photos which are to be found on several marketing materials and online. Nothing special and no use for an actual film correction other than for a reference.
Does anyone have the BD copy of Rebels season 4 for some screenshots? I’d like to get the full Imperial screen in HD for my wallpaper at work. 😃
It’s neither.
I disagree. It’s both.
You cut the rest of the paragraph just to disagree. I meant it’s neither on its own as it is both.
But you can see it however you want it to see. Some people say it’s a western (well, at least the first one) while others think it’s some deep religious film which has some weird father-son psychology layers where a man needs to confront his father to become a man or something (I’ve heard this angle before and it’s a stretch - I mean, it has that element but the analysis of this went way deeper than I could explain here. Just pointing this out before someone says it’s exatly that.).
It’s neither. Like I said, it’s science fantasy. 😄 It may sound like an oxymoron but it works. It has both elements, the science layer may be buried a little more.
But does anyone else besides me think that maybe the last 10 years (or even PT) are more fantasy than sci fi? Well, actually, R1 may fit into the science fantasy genre.
You have to remember that the colors aren’t going to be consistent since they are filmed in different lightings, from the backside and the frontside, and have been chemically developed on film from a generation to the next, so not every shot is going to have R2 looking a little purple or Ben’s robe light or dark etc. Of course now you can manipulate the way you want to, but it doesn’t mean it’s going to be accurate to the film.
I don’t know, I think SW was always science fantasy like Leonard Maltin said. At least into the 90’s including EU right after 1977 (just read the B&W comics or play the simulator games, which were like the best part). In the 2000s it’s all fantasy and that is why it has lost me, because I enjoy a little more scientific angle for my SW. Kinda like Stargate etc.
That Gremloids has great SW ripoff art.
I’ve been waiting for complete Solo numbers and I think it’s pretty much done.
By far the lowest numbers on any SW film even unadjusted, less than 400 million worldwide. I knew it wasn’t going to be good but it really bombed compared to all others. Hopefully this is a good lesson learnt at Disney - don’t give something that people do not want.
So, for guidelines, I started out by following the BBC guidelines (which are similar), but adjusted them to have a strong emphasis on readability for younger viewers. This means that, when given a choice, my subtitles opt to show lots of text for a longer duration instead of several briefer displays of short text.
Basically, if you’re making a new translation and want to stay within the project’s style recommendations, just use the project’s template files and that will take care of almost everything about timing, grouping, etc. The README covers a few other style issues. (existing Swedish subtitles do not entirely follow these guidelines because they’re pretty much straight from the GOUT DVD with only minor modifications)
I’m not replying just to you but Rondan and other possible translators as well.
It would be easy to use English guidelines for all languages but unfortunately all languages don’t have the same readability. I can easily read English subs with fast speed but reading the subs on my own Finnish language at the same speed literally gave me a headache. That’s why every single sub from my translation has its own timing that I manually made. I don’t remember anymore if CatBus changed the timings from what I originally sent, hopefully not. 😃 So Rondan, if you’d start the subs from scratch (which I recommend) I’d use the English subs for the basis of the translation, look for help from the GOUT subs and then time them all from scratch. On mine I used at least 100 milliseconds of free time between the subs so that the text wouldn’t look like it would change but the whole subtitle. Other than that I tried to maximize their readability time. That way you can get the most quality out of them.
Edit: oh, and if you want, you can use the Finnish subs for help in timings. Of course you’d need the English subs to understand the dialogue, but I’m pretty happy about the durations. Swedish maybe could be a little faster as the words are shorter, I don’t know.
The OT’s soundtracks are leagues better than the prequels partly because of the associations I have to the movie. Listening to ‘Luke and Leia’ reminds me of those characters that I love, while listening to ‘Across the Stars’ makes me feel almost nothing.
So it does remind you of the movie.
😉
Owen probably has beaten many droids in his years. Some shiny protocol droid gives him an e chu ta, and that droid will end up looking like 3PO in AOTC.
“I have no need for a protocol droid.”
Is there a way to download even the watermarked full images from the site? I can only get 1024 px high and can’t understand the source code that much.
Well, using Microsoft Edge I was able to click on the images to show the larger 1024 size, and then right-click and “Save Picture As”. They’re alll watermarked of course, but it works.

Yeah, I can get the 1024 size, but I thought there was a way inside the code to get the full image with the watermark.

The images look great! But I’m wondering, is the yellowish color noise something that would only be on release prints, or would the negative also have them? And why do those appear? They seem much different to what grain looks like.
IIRC, Verta said it was difficult to get rid of it but he managed it. You may find the video about it on vimeo.
That looks crazy good.
I know this might be an unwanted question but at the same time it’s on everyone’s mind. What kind of schedule are we talking here, is the cleaning/scanning somewhere in the near future or can it take even a year or two, not even talking about the final digital correcting? Just wondering if it’s more “one reel at a time for cleanup”, then “one at a time for scanning” or how the process will actually go?
Are there any high quality subs done for the HS in English? For the latest TV master release I mean. I’d like to try to translate it. Would be fun to have a project Threepio type of thing for this one too.
I’ve got a set of subtitles, but I don’t know how great they are. Also don’t know which version of the Special they’re timed for, but they go through an hour, 50 minutes, and 32 seconds.
Original site says they’re for The.Star.Wars.Holiday.Special.1978.VHSRip.XviD-DaPOO.
I have not seen any English subtitles myself, but there are official subtitles in Swedish for the version that played over there. That one’s slightly edited down…but it’s a start. There is a rumored Norwegian version that is probably subtitled as well, but it has yet to turn up. The official French and Spanish versions I’ve seen are dubbed. It supposedly aired in Belgium with Dutch subtitles, but I’ve yet to see that either.

I actually found the English subs around the web but the timing is off. Still, I’ll use it as my base for translation.
Would there be any interest in creating a multi-language version of this using the Editdroid version as the base? Getting different dubs and subs for it etc. I don’t know if any dubbed releases are around fully but it could be a fun project for 40th anniversary beside the bonus disc if it’s happening, too.
According to Wikipedia, Williams re-recorded the fanfare for Empire Strikes Back and his version was used in the subsequent Lucas-helmed Star Wars movies.

Incidentally, it seems that the “slanted 0” 20th Century Fox logo originally designated Cinemascope as well. Do we know why that particular version of the logo was used in Empire Strikes Back but not SW or ROTJ?
Because the logo was redesigned in 1981.

Hey, what’s the timeline on the upcoming version? I have small updates on my subs. 😃 But I’ll probably need to watch all three again.
That’s not a very aesthetically pleasing photo collage…
I could put it on certain organ if that is desired.
It sure is!
Great too the trilogy finally finished! I could start a marathon, it’s been years I’ve seen the first two on 16mm.
I like your prequel logos, especially TPM. I was never entirely satisfied with how mine came out. And your take on the “middle” of the AOTC logo is interesting.
Thanks! Ive been tinkering with them for a while now. AOTC certainly still needs some work, if you have any suggestions I’m all ears.
Here are the official AOTC and ROTS logos:
TPM never had one without the E1 on it, this is a revisionist used in some toys these days:
I didn’t want to start a new thread for this game so here goes…
I bought Lenovo’s Jedi Challenges for only 50€ even though I didn’t have a required phone to play it with (yet). I just tested it on my relative’s iPhone and it was much more fun than I thought of. Okay, the trooper battles are pretty lame but still okay, but the lightsaber duels are really fun. Didn’t have the time to test other game options. In addition to having fun battling myself, it was ridicilous to see others play the game too. Half of the fun became from that. But it would be great to have a real duel, too bad I don’t know anyone else who has this.
50 Euros? Where? The best I can find is £150 from Currys and PC World. Also if you are Irish (I’m Northern Ireland) I would totally battle you sometime!
I bought it at a local auction site. There always seems to be one or two for 70-90€ even unopened. The seller of mine said he had won it from somewhere and it was sealed too. Maybe check eBay? I’m pretty sure they are out there because I could imagine some kids could get bored easily or something. It has a huge novelty value but you pretty much need to be a True Fan to appreciate it even after a year.
Sorry, I don’t live there. 😛
