Oh no !!

At work the other day, two of us were talking about the film  'Ben Hur' and how wide the screen ratio is.

One of the guys listening in says "All I do with films like that, is zoom the picture in to fill the whole screen"!

AArrgghh ! WTF ??

Yeah, I can't stand it either. I mean, don't these people see the proportions get all fucked up? If you're watching a 4:3 Prince video and you "correct" the proportions to 16:9, now you're watching Barry White singing When Doves Cry! It's simple geometry, goddammit!

What would they do if presented with a conundrum like this?

It's still there.

All you need is a time machine (a photograph or a film).

um,  that assumes that photographs and/or film were taken before the manuscripts were destroyed.   Also film/photos is not quite like having the real thing.

True in some ways they are better because they're unique properties are easier to reproduce.

All things are physically ephemeral but conceptually eternal, even if the idea is lost someone or something will have it or an idea very similar to it again. The actual article is doomed by entropy, all physical objects change.

whatever.  Why do I waste time talking with you?

Because Teletubbies has been off the air for 10 years.
