Random Thoughts
Time

A couple of minutes ago, I was in the kitchen with my mom as she was flipping tv channels, and among the plethora of cooking shows that now plague the airwaves, we stumbled upon a program that had a chef with a Moe Howard haircut, and he kinda resembled the Stooge, too. I started giggling like a silly goose, mom had to change the channel. Whatever, I'm making up my own Stooges short in my head... XD

Preserving the "Italian" Original Trilogy (Released)
Time

Nice to see traffic in my thread, even if it's not on topic. :)

And to stay on the same theme, here's a couple of photos of my new vcr playing a tape from... I'd say more than 10 years ago.

Good ol' Fred looks stunned, he's probably amazed the vhs format still holds up so well. It helps that Hanna Barbera cartoons from the 60s had these really large areas of solid color, all you really need is a decent luma signal. :)

Wilma, Barney and Betty look very pleased. Maybe they know part of the merit for this nice snapshot is due to my Samsung LCD TV, seems to process vcr signals really well.

According to Wikipedia, that Rete4 logo dates back from at least 1999. Seems about right, but man, a long time ago that was!

Info: Recommended Editions of Disney Animated (and Partially Animated) Features

My head almost exploded when I saw they even repainted the dwarf names on the beds in Italian.  Weird.

That was done by Disney, they used to care about international versions... I don't believe that text is on the Dvd or Bluray release, now. As a matter of fact, what you hear in the clip is the 1972 redub. There was a theatrical dub in 1938, but Disney just doesn't care about it nowadays. They just ignore it and pretend it never existed, just like Cinderella and Peter Pan's  original dub tracks.

Cookie MOnsters favorite jokes!
Time

I've just "discovered" nun jokes. My life is now complete.

*********

Two nuns who were driving along, a vampire jumps out in front of their car and starts to walk menacingly towards them..
Sister Anne says to Sister Bernadette..."Show him your cross!"

Sister Bernadette wound down the window of the car and says "GET OUT OF THE ROAD YOU FUCKING BASTARD!"

Info: VHS Preservation Thread
Time

Great idea for a thread. I also now have the Pal equivalent to the AG 1980, I love this machine already.

Capture card reccomendations? I'm stuck at DV now, which is fine, but I'm aware of limitations of the format in regard to colorspace.

As soon as I have my pc back up and running, I'd love to do a couple of tape transfers, and it would be nice to do a "done once and done right" kind of deal.

Preserving the "Italian" Original Trilogy (Released)

My Panasonic NV-FS200 arrived today.

Unfortunately, due to my recent hard drive crash, I'm unable to do anything other than hooking it up to the tv and watch the pretty pictures. And they really are pretty! :)

Oh, yeah, about the preservation currently on the Spleen: there should be a couple of people trying to download it right now. Sorry, folks. Can't seed at the moment. :(

If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

^ And this actually made me feel a bit better. :)

Thanks Ant, Warb and Bingo for the kind words.

I've heard of toothpaste for cds, but what really works (apparently) is Brasso

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brasso

or so I've heard. Never tried it, so I cannot reccomend it nor warn people against using it.

Getting back to the matter at hand, has any of you ever heard of Donordrives.com?

These people offer the service I seem to require, and they'll do it for 60$. This could potentially save me hundreds!
