Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I finally seem to have found a way to increase saturation in Premiere without introducing those artefacts, so if you find a scene or shot that you think could use a saturation boost, feel free to point it out :-)

Getting back to this once more: I've found out that the free tool RawTherapee has a "Vibrancy" function among its color correction tools and allows for batch processing of image sequences. Might not be as elegant and fast as having it right there in Premiere or AfterEffects, but it could be worth a try.

Info Wanted: Greedo/Jabba subtitle text in other languages?

At least we don't in the subtitles... uhm... are there any ship names in the Greedo/Boushh/Jabba subtitles?

If I remember correctly some German translations of EU novels put ship names in italics. It's definitely an option and not forbidden by some crazy law.

I'm doing subtitles for everything.  I'm just trying to match style with the Greedo subs whenever possible.  So the real question is, do you italicize ship names in everyday German, in newspapers, etc?

No, it's not a standard. And subtitling the whole movies? Wouldn't it be the best then, to just use the DVD subs as a template?

Harmy, there's an alternative to the Saturation setting which is called Vibrance (it's a color correction filter available in Photoshop, AfterEffects and Premiere, although not before CS4, I think). The difference between it and the normal saturation is that it only increases the saturation of colors which have a low saturation. On the other hand areas that already have a high saturation to begin with don't get boosted any further.

This might help to avoid oversaturated artifacts appearing in some image parts.

(Actually the AfterEffects version of this filter has both sliders, so that you can lower the overall saturation with the Saturation slider, while adding back the color with the Vibrance slider)

HERE's a comparison between the two.

These are apparently high def scans of the original version and for some reason they are cropped to 4:3. They could be some promo materials of course but still.

Those ARE promo stills. Take a look here:

You need to purchase download credits though to download the files at high resolution. For color reference the small previews should be good enough though.

Preserving the "German" Original Trilogy (Released)
Time

Okay, I've checked (in Premiere as well)... my files definitely only have the differences of 27ms (Empire) and 36ms (Jedi).

I got the GOUT rips from TK-949, so maybe he can shed some light on this... but obviously CatBus comes to a similar result. In that case a delay of -25 frames would cause a VERY noticable asynchrony of over a second.

Well done ;-)

BTW, to have the German GOUT tracks be in sync with Harmy's video tracks, you need to shorten the beginning of the TESB-track by 27ms and the ROTJ-track by 36ms (AFTER slowing it down to 23.976 fps). SW is basically in sync without any changes, though the voices on the track go in and out of sync all the time (while music and effects stay synced). Weird stuff.

Do you know if it is possible to track two or more points?  I would like to track the sprocket holes on both sides if possible.

That's what I just wrote ;-)

Track two points... more won't be necessary, if the scan isn't warped (in which case aligning it would of course be a lot more difficult).

I'm off to work now (after all it's 7:45 in the morning here right now), but you might want to check out this tutorial:
http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/stabilize_shaky_footage/

In that tutorial only one point is tracked, thus only the position is stabilized... but as you can see, there's an option to track the rotation as well, by picking a second point. I'd say you just pick the two sprocket holes in the opposite corners and it should work perfectly.

If it's still unclear after that, I'll write something up tonight.

Sounds like a great, MacGyver-ish method :-)

May I suggest though, that a software like After Effects is probably a faster way to align all you frames, instead of doing it by hand in Photoshop? In After Effects you could just motion track the sprocket holes, and have them align automatically...
