STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION

One thing I noticed whilst watching the various clips... along the bottom of the black bars (when viewing in VLC player), there is a thin white line that flashes during certain frames, highlighting the black bar.

Will this sort of thing appear on a TV set when playing the DVD? If so, that ought to be fixed, it looks crappy.

Plus in the battle sequence there are a few unfinished shots.

well the clips have AC3 audio so you might need the codec. try googling "ac3 codec". i'm pretty sure there are free ones available.

Or you could try using Vlcmedia player here:

VLC MEDIA PLAYER

Ah, pity the computer I'm on now has a faulty soundcard... but thanks for posting more clips!

Will mirrors of these be posted?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, OT.com!

I tried to keep an old school flair with the the extremely retro logo from the first teaser poster release. It is also region-neutral and will work for whatever version you prefer (PAL or NTSC).

The full-res version is here at megaupload (2.11 MB).

Like everyone else, I can't wait for the final release!

Sorry for the noob question, but how do people get that pic that shows the little foldout thing displaying the cover they've made? Is that some kind of program template or something? Always wondered that...

Originally, Vader's eyes were red, that's obvious from the original prop and watching the unaltered ANH. The Vader suit changes from movie to movie, it's different in every single one. You can explain that as Vader getting his suit adjusted, or you can ignore it and pretend it's always supposed to be identical.

adywan made a creative decision. I personally prefer the red eyes, as it looks scary and it makes them more visible against the black mask in a dark scene. I don't see the need to modify the Vader suit to be more like any of the other movies. It only matters that it looks consistent from shot to shot in the same movie. But, I'm not the one making it... I took the "red computer readouts" in the Episode 3 suit as a nod to the fact that the eyes were red in the original film.

Most of the decisions he's made I agree with or at least consider them better than what Lucas decided. This isn't the original movie, it's a "Special Edition" so I'm not worried about losing the real movie just because this comes out.

I do long for the day when somebody releases an honest to goodness "restoration" of the original theatrical trilogy!

Whoops, didn't mean to post a blank message above!

I just wanted to say, adywan, great job on the released clips thus far. I don't agree with every change you made (Threepio looks super cheeto-gold colored in the Tantive IV hallway, and he seems to get more and less yellow as the camera changes; I also preferred when Vader's eyes were red... I loved how Episode III at least maintained some consistency with that idea), and some of the SE elements you retained still look like crap (maybe they'll look a bit better on a TV in DVD quality).

BUT, I must admit it looks much much better than the 2004 editions! Kudos for that.

It's a pity there's so much more work to be done...

I take it we're not going to get anymore never-before-seen clips between now and New Years 2008? Here I was hoping that the "Christmas suprise" was actually going to be a low quality version of the whole thing...

Ah well, the wait continues... pray you have no more hard drive failures!

The files are working for me... using a combination of megaupload and rapidshare, I got the three, and unpacked them (starting with the first) via Winrar.

I'm viewing the finished file in Media Player Classic (looks pretty good! watching it now).

I had to switch from firefox to IE (ugh) to download the "bigupload" version of the extra clip, which should be done for me in about 2 mins.

Thanks for this adywan... I can't wait to see the finished product!

One critique is that Vader's eyes are harder to see now that they're black instead of red. There's slight wobble in a few places (not as bad as the Emperor's slugs, but I can still tell they were altered). And there's a fuzzy outline on the "satellite dish" on the Falcon the docking bay. Oh well, probably too late to fix that, and it's probably not going to be that noticeable on a regular tv set...

The problem is, I have part 1 and 3. I cannot watch the last part because Stuffit wonders where rar 2 is.

Yousendit is my service of choice. No download limits. With ady's blessing, I can upload the rars I have on that.

I thought that yousendit had a limit of 25 downloads for each file?

just added new url for part 3

Well, he did get at least one free hard drive!

Pity I won't be watching this with my family at Christmas...

Instead, use it to celebrate the start of my last semester?

I'm kinda sad they took down the "R2D2" costume from the mailbox on the corner a few blocks from my apartment a couple weeks ago. I guess the celebration is officially over.

That and other wonderful acronyms are explained right about here. But to save you a little time:

PIF - Pay It Forward. You send out a disc to a person in return for a pledge from that person to send out (usually three) more copies to others, who then in turn each send out 3 more discs, and so on.

Thanks, Mother's sig!!!

Ron Moses

Sounds fine, and thanks. At one time I thought it was common practice for the "originator" of a fan edit to actually sell copies ("compensation") to the first few people who promised to put it online (ie: torr3nt), which would sound very problematic!

The Pay It Forward principle I do understand and is fine by me...

My problem isn't the DL burner (what is "PIF"? I've never heard that term before...),

rather, it's that none of the stores in my area carry blank DL media. So I'll have to order them online and then wait...
I admit it's been awhile, but the last time I checked, they were a lot more expensive than regular burnable dvd.

In any case, we've got at least a month to wait, and maybe another month after that for the NTSC version. Still, it'll
be fun to see, assuming another hard drive failure isn't going to happen, right folks?

Transformers the Movie (1986) - Supplemental Disk (* unfinished project *)

Forgot to mention.. the sound effects and stuff can be isolated and I believe there are resources out there used by fan dubbers to re-create those. Probably also true of the music. It would be nice to finally see a full audio sync with the US 20th Anv. DVD that has the whole thing translated. I wouldn't expect somebody to record themselves singing the opening theme song, but maybe that could stay subtitled (or maybe not, depending on if somebody has the talent!).

Well, the one the OP is talking about is the "Scramble City" ep as shown on the 20th Anniversary Transformers: the Movie DVD set. It's the best quality currrently
available, it just lacks any audio... it's JUST a commentary track by two fans.

So you'd either have to use the audio track from the Japanese version (which had subtitles in english) or else re-create the audio and dub the dialog yourself from the script or a translation (neither of which I know where to get, but surely somebody does, since fandubs have been made).

One difference I noticed (other than one joke that was inserted when Metroplex runs over those trees, which was hilarious) between the Japanese subtitled version and the english fan dubs is that the Japanese version has the characters often saying "damn!" and calling each other "bastard." I don't know if that's creative interpretation or if that's what they're really saying (it seems out of character for the US series, but maybe they were different).

I've seen fan dubs of the "Scramble City" episode, but they only start with the "new material" (the shot of the volcano crater base and Ultra Magnus overseeing the construction of "Scramble City Project" to the end with the stare-down between the two city-bots. Was fan dubbing done for the previous "stock footage" sequences? Was it the same dialog as the original or was it modified?

Anyone who knows, please post here or PM me if it's a secret or something... thanks!

Star Wars film versions and best DVD sources
Time
I thought they came out three times.... (if they mirrored the VHS releases)

Once as is.... (with a bit of "making of the special edition" fluff)

1998?

Second time with an Episode I "preview,"...

2000?

Third time with an Episode II "preview"...

2001?

I thought the TPM laserdisc (Japan only) came out around the same time as the VHS version came out in the states. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong...

Quality might still be the same though, but I never had an LD player so I can't say.

vbangle: just relax. ady's got his schedule and my discussing this here isn't going to slow him down, since he's not going to take up my suggestion (and not because anyone here told him not to of course). It's his choice what to spend his time on. It's just one more suggestion amongst many others that have been made over the past year. Please don't act as if I've successfully hijacked the thread or something! It's not that bad.

corellian77: I did listen to all three radio dramas in their entirety (a friend of mine owned them and let me borrow 'em). And while it was a novelty the once through (the Vader voice as hilarious and the 'torture scene' quite disturbing), reading the original novel was much more fun for me. Back in the day somebody used the audio from the radio drama scene to add sound (pretty convincingly) to the "treadwell" scene, which was cool.

I find the cheesy acting, cheap sets and throwaway characters just enhance the universe of Star Wars and fit right into the spirit of the original film. Sure Lucas deleted it, but it's not like there's going to be one perfect version of the movie for all time (except the original theatrical version of course), and therefore it shouldn't ever happen. I'd much rather see Luke's friends than that crappily done Jabba scene anyday. Lots of us were disappointed back in '97 because we thought those scenes were finally going to be inserted back into the movie. Ah, those were the days, when we could still dream! With fan edits we can get a little bit of that magic back now and then.

I don't really plan to start a new thread here on it. Feel free to PM me your thoughts (I predict nobody will though, which is cool).

sluggo: I don't suppose you released that when you did?

You know what I'll say, but for me, I'd rather just see them in the movie, I don't care how bad they look compared to the rest. I thought the 2004 DVD's looked awful, but most people thought they looked wonderful (present company excluded of course!). For me the CG and modern footage added in '97 and '04 sticks out like a sore thumb already. Having a few badly aged clips from '77 thrown in there would seem like a bad thing, but to me this is "genuine" Star Wars footage as much as the Jabba scene and the Biggs/Red/Leader/Luke scene.

Ady's been at his project a year now. I know somebody will just say to me "hey Kurgan, why don't you just make your own version if you want it so bad" right! I'm just a little surprised nobody has tried to insert the clip into the movie yet just to see how it goes. A lot of people will quote Lucas saying why he removed it from the movie, but then we don't always trust Lucas with his edits do we? (Jabba scene, for example).

I even look forward to seeing somebody attempt to colorize the alternate Cantina scene and add music/sound cues (but keeping the english dialog, I love Greedo speaking normally!).

Until such time (if any) as Lucas releases these scenes in some higher quality format, I guess this is what we're stuck with.

Though, correct me if I'm wrong but weren't there higher framerate clips of the Biggs scenes on the 'net that had nothing to do with BTM?
