When something like this goes wrong, you simply say that it was a deliberate creative decision and that the movie is not suppose to play right, the menu and the subtitles are suppose to be messed up. This way you don't have to admit your mistake and go through the time and cost of a recall.

Don't worry about it man, like I said above, even the professionals make these kinds of mistakes. We shall eagerly and patiently await the reuploaded version. Please do not shoot yourself.

LOL

I am relying on you guys now... download and seed that mofo (the fixed one, of course)!!!

Because of my kids (always playing with my pc) and the missus (always turning off my pc) I am so relying on a pif...if that's still going ahead!?!?

Nice disc art Ady btw

Don't worry... most of us don't use newsgroups, and are just waiting for the torr3ntz to be seeded...

Is there a higher quality version of this cover available? This one has a lot of jpeg compression artifacts. Just curious!

So, DVD-5 this weekend? Well now... isn't that exciting.

Personally I thought the jerky motion was fine, because these were "robots" and I expected their movements to be less smooth than biological creatures, but maybe that's just me... there's a few little things by the ground that give-away that they are fake though if you're looking closely in a few shots, which could be painted out.

Also an idea I toyed around in my mind and want to share is that we hardly see Coruscant in the OT so what if the conversation with Vader could go like this: when Vader talks to the hologram it's onboard the SD, but at the beginning of the conversation after he says "what is thy bidding..." the camera goes to Coruscant and we see from behind (to avoid spoiling the ROTJ revelation) the Emperor talking to a Vader hologram answering the greeting, and so the conversation goes back and forth in the two places....I dunno if that's feasable but it's fun to think about it and it would be cooler if it could be seen.

Since ultimately Ady's edits have the goal of harmonizing I-VI, wouldn't the Emperor's appearance in ROTJ therefore NOT be a revelation? So there would not have to be any concern for "spoiling" anything in the next film. With that said, the idea would still work better (and be easier to pull off) if the view was from behind.

That presumes, doesn't it, that Adywan "intends" for the audience to watch it in numerical order (1-6) rather than production order (4-6, 1-3)?

There is a more simpler explanation to why the AT-ATs came in from far away...

An aerial bombardment/ground assault would have been designed to weaken the shields sufficiently enough for them to pass through without having to destroy what was inside. Having the AT-ATs and AT-STs come in with guns blazing would have been part of this strategy - pound the defense till it's too weak to defend, then you can do as you wish. You can liken it to Germany's aerial bombing of London...it was all designed to weaken the enemy to the point of no fightback (they just hadn't factored everything in!)

Or you could just say the Imperials got a little lost and had to rely on their GPS systems to get them back ontrack...!

There isn't a massive amount I would change in ESB. The Emperor's communication with Vader should be reverted to the original dialogue. It ties in too much to handhold the viewer all the way to Vader's reveal. Yoda should remain as he is...if anything, he should be replaced in the rest of the movies! Minor bits can be cleaned up and tweaked, but it doesn't require much. Irvin Kerschner's direction and detail is much stronger than the rest of the trilogy. But please make sure Luke doesn't scream going down the exhaust shaft - he made a conscious decision to fall, so wouldn't be screaming in terror. He would have been at peace with his decision.

Except the dialog states that the shield is strong enough to withstand "any bombardment" (presumably that means they'd have to devastate the planet in order to get past the shield, which would end up killing the people they wanted to take prisoner, making it totally impractical).

Presumably if they'd come up far away, they wouldn't have been detected, and the original plan would have been to target the shield generator from orbit and take it out before the Rebels knew what was happening, then make the capture much easier (since they could use surgical strikes on key assets and prevent ships from escaping much more easily).

If the shields are strong enough to stop orbital bombardment from the Star Destroyer and other ships, it certainly would be more than enough to resist the weapons of the Imperial walkers that landed. Rather, the walkers can pass through the shield, being that they are small, slow moving objects (think the Gungan theater shields from Episode I, on a larger scale).

Canonically, ROTJ takes place 1 year after ESB, so if you show the DS in it, I suggest doing so as an "epilogue" (think the epilogue that was created for the Darth Editous/ADM Hybrid edit of ANH) after the credits.

THAT would be cool, and would allow more freedom without making it all seem the same.

See, I was a bit worried with the Prequel music and Imperial march being added into ANH that we'd start to get sick of this stuff because it would all be in every movie now, instead of us experiencing more and new things as the episodes progress.

The impression I always got was that the shield was like a flat surface above the base; it protected the base from an aerial bombardment but it was possible to sneak under the edges at near-ground-level (ie. with walkers or speeders).

good point about the shield generator, although the walkers were able to destroy it fairly quickly, and they had to destroy the shield so Vader and his troops could enter the base.

but surely the Rebel groundforce with their turrent cannons etc were also outside of the protection of the shields?

Why? I thought everything the Rebels had was inside the shield. If it wasn't, the Empire could have bombarded those areas from orbit and wiped out their defenses before landing to make the ground force's job easier. The shield generator is obviously UNDER the shield, but that doesn't mean it isn't easy to destroy once the walkers are within range of it.

(reposted from the other thread):

ESB fixes:

Fix the continuity error created by the "new windows" (now you see them, now you don't) on Bespin between the time Lando is showing them the tour and they get detained by Vader's men.

Restore Fett's old voice.

Correct the asteroid that has an explosion in it right before the Falcon and TIE's reach it (for no apparent reason). If it's going to be a collision it shouldn't flame up like it's a laser hit or something.

Fix the problem where Luke's saber is still on as he leaves the cave (yet you hear a saber off sound).

Restore Luke's line "You're lucky you don't taste very good" in the swamp

Fix any instances of "black R2D2 panels" in space.

Fix the transparent cockpits in the snowspeeders (for good this time)

Remove the obvious "puppet stilts" in a few shots of the AT-AT's.

Fix the saber colors, making them more consistent with the other movies.

PS: With the SE Wampa footage, you now hear two roars (roars as the wampa is eating and grunting), as if there are TWO wampas in the cave. Decide if you want there to be two now or just one...

If you watch carefully, the Ughnaughts (little pig guys) remove Han's cuffs right before he goes into the chamber. Of course iirc, the white shirt he's wearing during that entire scene is different than the one he's wearing in the Tatooine scenes of ROTJ... so there's still a continuity flub between the films.

The Hoth shield thing makes perfect sense in light of the prequels (Episode I, actually). A theater shield stops projectiles, energy, and fast moving objects, but slow moving metal objects (walkers) can push through. The Hoth shield is like the Gungan theater shield only much, much larger (protecting a portion of the planet, so it could be many kilometers in coverage... the walkers would have to land outside the shield and push through, then scurry on to the base to attack it). Sure, I suppose the Star Destroyers could have bombarded the planet (not the shield) and turn it into a steaming ocean, but Vader wanted Skywalker captured alive.

Ok, i've tweaked a few things in the past couple of days but i will be doing no more work on this edit. The majority of fans like what i have done and that is all that matters to me. I want to put this edit to rest so i can have a break and then concentrate on ESB. I don't care if some of the FX aren't great or that elements don't match. the vision i had for the edit is now on screen and i had to do this using whatever footage i possibly could. I'd never done FX before and i am proud of what i have accomplished so this will be my last word on any changes happening for the DVD versions of ANH. Here's the changes:

Removed the ILM crew member from the droid sale
Removed the wire and batteries seen up Luke's sleeve in Ben's hut
Removed the remaining wires from Ben's sleeve during the sabre fight
Ponad Baba's arm will be swapped for Dr. Evazan' s arm & hand
Slight tweak to the TIE approach. The background & camera is no longer static at the beginning & a new Death Star surface
Fixed the gunport shot during the TIE battle where the gun remains static when Han swings the chair and the gun can clearly be seen over the top of the chair instead of behind it
Credits fixed

As for the sabers being too fat then just have a look at the state of the originals. the width is all over the place throughout. When rotoscoping i had to make them slightly fatter in a lot of shots because the blade is all over the place and has really jagged edges and as was mentioned by Fuser the blades are never the same thickness during ESB & ROTJ an actually get fatter than the ones i did at times too.

Sounds good... see you in a few weeks!

Yes, there's an early draft screenplay in which there are three death stars (starwarz.com's Jedi Bendu script archive has it). Very different take on the story than the 1983 version (check the ending too!).

The "all new" Vader's arrival on the Executor needs some major tweaking if it's going to be kept.

It's far too obvious in the new footage that it's just an outtake of Vader arriving on the Death Star II. The hangar is the DS2 hangar, and what is Moff Jejerrod doing there (mouthing his ROTJ lines but with no sound coming out). That either needs to be removed, or some clever digital manipulation (insert Piett in there? Change the background?).

Fett's old voice needs to be kept! I don't see why voice filters are such a crazy idea... Leia had it with Bousshe, Anakin has it with his Vader suit. It's scarier, and we're left to imagine why his voice sound like that... what kind of a badass bounty hunter was he? Etc. The new voice sounds phoned in and unsure. Temura Morrison sounds like he's playing a Clone trooper, not Boba Fett. This is a cutthroat money grubbing head-hunter, not some brainwashed cannon fodder soldier.

This might be a stretch, but to me the new and old wampa footage doesn't quite match. If something could be done to make them match more closely, that'd be great.

And Luke's saber off sound as he's leaving the cave either needs to be removed, or the saber needs to actually shut off to match the sound effect.

I wanna hear "you're lucky you don't taste very good" again too!

And no more pink/orange sabers for Vader!

Best of luck Adywan, it's going to be another fun 20 months waiting for this one, once you've finished ANH:R!
