Info: James Bond - Laserdisc Preservations: 1962-1971

Shame about that VHS. I too am used to the older video version of the credits, but I don't think anything videowise would use the original unaltered credits with wrong return tags since they weren't released or were quickly recalled and junked.

To ask a noob question, what are the best laserdisc versions of the original connery Bonds?

Sorry for missing this one earlier, but here's a quick rundown:

Dr. No, FRWL: MGM for best wither single release or Connery Collection Vol. 1, Criterion edition from show print with different color and framing.

Goldfinger: MGM single or Connery Collection overall though title song in stereo. Criterion uses a show print with different color and framing. THX box has some DVNR but is full CAV. Later THX CLV repress is same.

Thunderball: MGM single or Connery Collection Vol. 2. THX CAV box great but features some DVNR and new surround sound mix with alternate dialog/effects/score cues. Later THX CLV repress is same.

YOLT: 1989 MGM single or CC Vol. 2. Almost exactly similar, with perhaps the CC version being slightly better because it was made 3 years later.

DAF: same as YOLT.

So for the easiest choice, I'd say you couldn't go wrong with both Connery boxes.

This is actually quite helpful. Which version of OHMSS would you recommend? I'm trying to track down most of my favorite Bond films on LD.  I recently got the Criterion Connery films, with the "Banned" commentary tracks. While I like for the most part, the blu-ray releases, I'd like to have the original PCM audio for the sake of completion. Besides OHMSS, I'm looking for TSWLM,FYEO and TLD. I really don't know if there were various versions, similar to the first three Connery flicks.

I'm still pretty new to Laserdisc collecting, but I've quickly fallen in love with the lossless audio this format provided.

I used to have your old transfers, but these, boy oh boy! I've been listening to these on my high end set up and these are amazing! Your original files were excellent, but these just blow them out of the water. The high res files are always welcome, even more now that I've been collecting 94/24 rips of various vinyls. I even created lossless versions to listen on my iPhone. Thank you 7FN for all the work on these and of course, AntcuFaalb for uploading them.

Star Wars Laser Disc Audio Archive (Released)

Yeah, I'm sorry for the lack of updates.  I've completed the 85 mix of Star Wars, but I've got a couple decisions left to make on a few spots.  Right now I'm working on updating the sync on the 77 stereo mix of Star Wars.  I'll then move on to Empire's JSC/SWE and 1980 mixes and Jedi's JSC/SWE and 1983 mixes.  I've already got a preliminary sync for the JSC/SWE mixes, they just need to be fine-tuned.

I'm thinking of waiting until I finish all the mixes before uploading all the completed, synced tracks as 44.1/16 flacs.  I think I would then update the  other torrent to include the adobe audition project files, so that other people could adjust any part of the mixes they may want/need to change.  I may also upload upsampled files at 48/16 if anyone wants or needs those for DVD or Blu Ray compatibility.

That would be ideal. It'll be nice to add the theatrical stereo, 85' and 93 mixes to Harmy's MKV release. FLAC or Wav, doesn't matter, it's all lossless! Thank you for taking the time to do this release.

What I did with your archive was convert it to FLAC. I'm sure many here wouldn't mind a FLAC archive for the GOUT ready mixes.

Good call on the commentary track, makes it even more official!

Also, schorman13 did all the work on the commentary track. I just nabbed it from his recent laserdisc audio archive release.

It's not GOUT-synced yet, though, is it?

It's is. He specified it in the torrent release.

"Additionally, Audio Commentary taken from the 1993 Definitive Collection was recorded at 96/32(float), cleaned up using DeNoise, synced to the GOUT DVDs, resampled, and dithered to 48kHz/24bit mono."

I don't know how to do any of that. And I don't have any of the tracks in PCM, just AC3. I'd like to get the 93mix in PCM for the BD though.

If you need the 93' Mix in PCM, I have it.

I'll be more than happy to upload it for you. I have the original Belbucus RAR files for all three movies.

I also have the mono mix he did in lossless FLAC. These are all GOUT Synced, with minor editing required for the 93 mix, they need padding.

Star Wars Trilogy 1997 Special Edition DVDs?

Keep in mind that the special editions still had the "Greedo shoots" change, all the terrible and pointless "Episode 1" flavored CGI added to Mos Eisley, and Jar Jar's voice at the end of ROTJ....Plus, there's the terrible scream from Luke in the SE version of TESB.

However, I will agree that they're "better" than the 2004 versions, but the 2004 versions of each film are "better" than the Blu Ray versions, and the Blu Ray versions of each film will be better than the 3D versions coming out in a few years.

You know what's better than them all though?

The ORIGINAL versions.

Jar Jar's voice isn't at the end of the 1997 version of RoTJ, is it?

Nope, hell Naboo wasn't even in the 97 SE. I love the SE's as much as the originals. It's a shame we never got these on DVD.

@Harmy: Wouldn't it be nicer to use separate subtitle files (like the ones I mentioned earlier on this page) instead of the "burned-in" ones which are now present in your current releases?

They were burned-in on the original releases which this project is attempting to re-create. Though with the right setting, the MKV and Blu-ray releases would benefit from that, that way other languages could have their own "theatrical" subtitles for Greedo.

Info Wanted: GODFATHER Saga in HD on AMC - is anyone planning to cap this in HD?

I always capture it with the highest settings with the Hauppauge. I have no idea how many gigs it's going to be for the total thing. I'm going to assume around 20-30. That's going to take forever to torrent. I don't know WHAT I'm going to do with it, once I have it.

The good thing is the movies were split into parts, may I suggest one part at a time? Anyway, thank you for capping this.

Harmy, at around 1:53:50 in ROTJ, as Han Solo is running away from the bunker, he becomes ghosted for a fraction of a second.

Also, MySpleen seems to only have actual disk versions, to be burned and played on standalones. Is there any chance you could release plain MP4 or MKV versions, without the compatibility restrictions posed by cimpliance to the AVCHD standard and playable as-is on any computer?

Or just get tsMuxerGUI and create your own ts file which is a MKV. This takes about 10 minutes to create the the container.

I have a wee issue that I hope someone can resolve. I was using ImgBurn to put the first SW on a dvd. I went away from my computer for about 20 minutes and came back because I thought I had accidentally selected the SWV3 folder rather than the VIDEO_TS sub folder. So, I stupidly cancelled (especially considering it was a DVD+R) the burn only to find that was not the case. I did however put the disc in a player and it seemed to work fine.

Is there any way to tell if I have "missed" something?

IMGBurn automatically detects what type of archive you are burning. You'd be set, but cancelling it might cause some problems.
