***The Official RowMan*** Release Thread
Time
Were you able to make it so the videos did not automatically play back to back? I also was wondering if you had wanted to have the special edition bonus materials included. There was a short starwars.com promo from the 2000 SE vhs (and possibly on the LD) release that had clips from the ot and Ep I playing to "Duel of the Fates." There was some promo for the THX certified tapes (not "One Last Time") which showed split screen comparisons of the films before and with THX. I saw it on the website starwarscutscenes.com I think. I would love to have those included, perhaps in place of the trailers that are already on the official bonus dvd.

As for the deleted scenes, what about the Chief Bast scene from the Holiday special as well as putting some of the video clips from the other two movies' deleted scenes? They're on "Deleted Magic" and include part of Luke's Recovery, Another Bespin Kiss and even a short part of the Tatooine Sandstorm. I was also wondering if there was somewhere where you listed all the sources and playback/capture equipment. Anyway, I really appreciate those extras. I don't understand why they weren't on the official dvd since the prequels came with an extras disc for each movie.

Please Welcome OT's Newest Moderator

I totally agree. Moth3r has been so helpful to the forum, it seems like he already was a moderator. I'd like to make a request. Would it be possible for screenshots of the newest dvd projects such as the special collection. It would be interesting to see the screens of the early laserdisc releases (even pan & scan) to compare how much the film had deteriorated and aged.

T2 HDWMV isn't the full print
Time
I've also heard Cameron has stated that he prefers the full frame version of his movies. Was super 35 matted used for LotR? Is there a list of all of the matted widescreen films where you actually see "more" in the fullscreen version. Didn't the dvd lawsuit against MGM deal with this? The open matte films I can think of are.
E. T.
Back to the Future (1, 2 & 3)
Terminator 2 (super 35)
The Princess Bride
Spaceballs
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Air Force One (super 35)
Waiting for Guffman
Titanic (super 35)

you fail to realize were killing more people there now than saddam ever did

This is not even close to being remotely true. Didn't you hear about the mass graves (from Saddam's rule) that have been discovered. And if we really just wanted oil, why wouldn't we invade Saudi Arabia or a country with a much larger amount than what Iraq has. The others may be your opinion but that above is unbelievably ignorant.

Here is an excerp from a private debrief summary from the father of a Marine in the Anbar province of Iraq, discussing tactics and weapon quality that I found interesting. I received it in an email and it basically describes the weapons and equipment used by the troops as well as the terrorists. This part caught my eye.
"According to son, morale among our guys is very high. They not only believe they are winning, but that they are winning decisively. They are stunned and dismayed by what they see in the American press, whom they almost universally view as against them. The embedded reporters are despised and distrusted. They are inflicting casualties at a rate of 20-1 and then see s**t like "Are we losing in Iraq" on TV and the print media. For the most part, they are satisfied with their equipment, food and leadership."

As for RotJ, I actually think the special edition ending is an improvement over the original version EXCEPT Hayden. I like the celebrations on different planets (even Naboo) and I think the new theme is better and more fitting for the end of the saga than "Yub Nub".

Changes you want (or don't want) to the 2007 archival editions
Time
Greencapt you stole my idea for the Greedo scene. Someone should do a fan edit of the trilogy with even more annoying special edition changes, for a joke. Change Jabba's subtitles (from ANH) to be more out of character. Redub Boba Fett so his lines sound even worse and more goofy than Morrison's. Mix one of the classic music themes at some random point way down so it can't be heard. Add silly cg fire explosions to whenever a blaster hits a wall. Screw with the color. Make Luke's lightsaber a different color in every scene.
And I could not believe how much of an @** kisser McCallum is. He contributed nothing worthwhile to the ep III commentary, he just said at random intervals "And this right here is classic George, the way he combines all the visual elements to tell the story is pure genius." Lucas himself had a lot of interersting things to say.

Green screen, CGI and the 'Minute' documentary from ROTS
Time
One of Natalie's worst delivered lines I thought was Ep I on Coruscant "We must do something quickly to stop the Federation." On The Beginning, I believe that scene is shown to be filmed first and then we see George talking about how great of an actor Natalie is, having only needed two takes for that scene. George just can't distinguish good dialog from bad, it's all the same to him while slight cg differences will be glaringly obvious to him. He probably can't even tell the difference between Boba Fett's new and old voice.

Modified from its original version
Time
The director's cut of "Legend" from Ridley Scott on the 2002 dvd had "The following film has been modified from its original version to show additional footage not seen theatrically." The irony with that is the director's cut in this case actually is the originally version, taken from a test screening print before the studio stepped in and forced the movie to be hacked to bits, like what they tried to do with "Brazil."

Check other dvd's that are not the exact original version for this message.

You know you’re an O-OT fan when............

1. You refer to the original Star Wars as “Star Wars” and not “A New Hope”
not only that but I refer to the original films as the original trilogy, not the oot or non special edition. Those are the true versions, George has only forgotten what they are. (and the amount of money they've made him)

the second list
2, 3, 25: what about you try to quote any lines from movies in the appropriate context whenever you can.
once when I piled into a 4 seat car with 5 other people I said "One thing's for sure, we're all gonna be a lot thinner."

Can someone please explain WHY the audio on the 2004 ANH DVD is so messed up?
Time
I think the reason why "The Wizard of Oz" so good is because it was shot on technicolor. All the technicolor films have aged very well. I've heard the film used for "Star Wars" was later found to be most suceptible to deterioration. There's a really good documentary that should explain some of this on the two disc special edition "The Adventures of Robin Hood." (the 1937 film)

I don't know if I want Ben Burtt to work on the sound mix for the next dvd release. I think with the official dvd's and prequels, the sound effects have drowned out the music way too much. The entire death star attack is a good example of this. When people talk about what was underused for the prequels, they should also mention John Williams. His memorable scores really had a huge impact. When people talk about parts of the prequels they like such as the Darth Maul duel, it seems very common for them to say "... and the John Williams score really adds so much to the scene." But think about it, outside of Anakin's Theme, Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars and A Hero Falls, what parts in the prequels had memorable music that you can hum to yourself? Like how Mike Verta of Star Wars legacy wrote how he would ask people to hum the theme to Raiders and then do the same for Spiderman. No one could do the second. Burtt mentioned in his boring commentary of ep 1 that he loved having just sound effects, no dialogue, no music for the podrace. I think could have been even better with music. Diddy Kong Racing for the N64 is one of my favorite videogames and a big reason for that is the music.

I thought the Ep II nightclub scene and asteriod chase between Obi Wan and Jango were pale imitations of the cantina from Star Wars and asteriod field from ESB. The reason the older ones were better was a large part due to the music. Can you hum the asteriod flight theme from ESB? Okay, can you do the same for the asteroid chase from Ep II? I didn't think so. Hell, I wouldn't mind having "Jedi Rocks" in the Ep II nightclub. It's over the top, in your face style (literally) would be more fitting for the prequels than the ot. It sure would make better sense to have it at a time when the Jedi were guardians of peace and justice in the republic, not when they were "traitors" who tried to "overthrow the republic." Didn't Jabba hate the Jedi anyway?

Best movies of 05
Time
I'm not even sure if I've seen a total of five movies during this "year of the remakes." Has there seriously been a year with more remade films?
I've seen:
Kingdom of Heaven
Revenge of the Sith
The Brothers Grimm
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I will see Harry Potter, I intend to see Narnia and wanted to see Howl's Moving Castle, Serenity and Mirrormask.
Guess I'll do top three.
1. RotS
2. Hitchhiker's Guide
3. Brothers Grimm
