Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

I really like changing the idea of changing the blaster bolts for stunners, removing the unfortunate implications of killing brainwashed soldiers. However I don’t know how convincing it would be, even with the circle stun effect, without erasing the blaster scorch marks on the fallen troopers’ armor.

Well it’s nice to hear you’ve already past the point where TCW took a decisive leap on quality, so prepare yourself for a treat. Seasons 3 onward feature some of the most nuanced, dark and overall well-written arcs.

We just watched the Darkness on Umbara arc, and it was pretty impressive, especially the first three episodes and most of the fourth. Not a huge fan of the one-note villiany at the end, but other than that it was rather astonishing considering the target demographic.

I concur with you that Krell’s turn could have been developed better, yet I still can’t forget how cold I felt after seeing the clones attack each other.

I don’t think she’s bland at all, I really like the orange and black and the geometrical shapes in her outfit. I really hope the Book of Boba Fett (and Bad Batch) develops Fennec’s character further because I was really disappointed when she was temporarily killed, seemed like wasted potential. Like does she have a code of honor? Any backstory? Were there any personal reasons for her to join the top crime syndicates?

I’d definitely keep the Star Wars TV intro (Mando style), yet you could experiment with other pieces of score accompanying it to blend better with the following new track. Maybe you could use a softer version of Ahsoka’s theme for the text instead of the synthwave one (I really like the first half of this one)? Or just wait a few second more to start the music, after the SW one has faded out.

I agree the main titles would feel more natural with some kind of motion, such as a zoom-in or zoom-out, added to them.

The outro music fits in a phenomenal way. I like how it starts with a melancholic rendition of the clones motif, then transitions into the militaristic Republic march. And the concept art idea works wonderfully.

I thought all the unfinished stories were considered canon. Or does that only apply to events that have been adapted or mentioned in some other series?

I think the 2nd. For example Crystal crisis and Bad Batch, despite the unfinished animation and fx, were “officially” released as complete story reels and thus they were considered canon.

My current line of thought is that the unfinished material can be optionally considered canon until a newer work or adaptation overwrites or contradicts them. For example I can choose to believe whether Cad Bane was killed by Boba, while waiting for an upcoming source to confirm or deny it happened.

I also think there’s potential for other characters to show up - Cad Bane could be a cool option, if he’s alive. After all, judging by what we’ve seen of that unfinished TCW arc, Bane - if alive - would likely be out to get him.

Indeed! Bane and Boba’s standoff from the cancelled TCW arcs is not considered as canon yet, so maybe it could be reworked into any of the newer projects as long as Filoni’s involved.

If I had to pick any cameos or returning characters they would be Bossk, Dengar or Embo.

I was a little disappointed with some of the new show titles announced at Investor’s Day (Lando series is called ‘Lando’, Ahsoka series is called… you get the idea)

So true! I was really hoping it would be called “The Calrissian Chronicles”.

A reference is made to Grievous ransacking Hondo’s base in the one episode, but seen in the other. I think it can be worked around.

Yep.

And honestly I don’t think the Younglings arc depicts Grievous that badly. You’d only need to trim the bit where he goes all out villainous gloating after Ahsoka flees, when’s fired upon by Slave I, and maybe the space battle with Obi-Wan’s forces (this one mostly for pacing). The lightsaber duel with Ahsoka is decidedly balanced in Grievous’s favor.

Ahsoka (live action series) - general discussion thread

After giving it a thought I’m thinking the Rebels characters such as Ezra, Sabine or Thrawn would play a part in the upcoming crossover event between the TV projects set in the New Republic era (Ahsoka, Rangers, Mando and possibly now Boba).

Tying Ahsoka to the World Between World could be a fine way of having her speak in Rise of Skywalker without the need to die.

People keep using the phrase “trained martial artist” as if it means anything. Especially coming out of Hollywood…

And even if she does have authentic martial arts training, why does that make everyone think that she must be cast with the intent of using that skillset? Actors often have wide ranges of experiences in their backgrounds that may or may not come into play for any given role…

I think it’s because we’re used to seeing actors with a martial arts background play characters defined by their stunts and fight scenes (ex. Ray Park, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen), and being a more showy skillset, it would be far more requested in a casting call for an action/fantasy franchise than, lets say, playing the piano.

The Younglings arc should be at least in Continuity because it explains what happened to Hondo’s base, shows the Slave One repaired and explains the lore around kyber crystals, which are a staple of the new canon. If included in Quality, maybe you could trim the arc a bit (much as you plan to do with Onderon) and move it as early as possible (before “Eminence”).

I’m curious. Why would you say to move it before Eminence?

I meant Revival, lol

On the topic of Beskar, when the mando squad are taking the gizanti cruzer why is it that mando is the only one who can run toward the troopers and deflect their fire and the others are “pinned down”.

I don’t think Death Watch or the Night Owls have Beskar armour. Unless they upgraded after TCW where they kept getting cut up by lightsabres.

I also think the Mando arc in Rebels said it was a Beskar alloy.

The Death Watch gear in TCW was probably beskar in part since they were originally stationed in a moon where beskar was mined, but not enough for it to become lightsaber or blaster-proof.

fair enough thanks guys, here’s another one. So Boba’s armor is now canonically beskar yes? if so how does his jetpack malfunction from a staff on jabbas barge but Din’s can take a lightsaber hit?

It might only be his armour, as Jango’s jetpack was damaged by lightsabers back in the day wasn’t it?

Wasn’t Jango’s jetpack damaged by the Reek beast rather than a saber?

I actually think the Darktrooper theme is great. I never listen to dubstep, but I’m glad Ludwig Goransson is drawing on so many different styles and making his soundtrack experimental.

Just listening to the opening seconds of “The Mudhorn” in season 1 showed me I could expect anything from the score, and I mean that in a very good way.

Even when he used familiar themes such as the march of the Resistance he re-did them in an unique style.

I really thought the effects on Luke were great, and for a long time I couldn’t figure out if it was Sebastian Stan or a stand-in with Mark’s face. Of course the CGI becomes more noticeable when one is looking for it, but it felt much more natural than, lets say, Leia at the end of Rogue One.

I don’t think it will explore abandoned plot lines, I have a feeling it will focus on exploring its corner of the timeline more though…

It’s Dave Filoni we’re talking about. A good portion of Rebels was spent on giving closure to or bringing back characters from TCW. The trailer has already shown Kamino, Zygerria and Pantora so we will be revisiting known locations. The good thing now is that we can know what happened with these secondary factions in the immediate aftermath of ROTS, or how people across the galaxy were directly impacted by the fall of the Republic.
