HD-DVD
Time
Sony actually made good on one of the rumors that had been floating around. The upcoming PS3 will be Blu-ray itself. Given how much the PS2's DVD drive helped push that format into uncaring homes, it definately will create a market for Blu-ray. I haven't followed THe HD scene lately as, I'm not sure if my digital TV is compatable(i really want a D-VCR). I lean for Blu-ray at the moment. I loath compression, and from what I've read WMV-9 isn't a true HD codec. It has to cut on the lumenence values of the picture. As such, it make Blu-ray the only real HD disc format( oh, how I hate discs). All of the major manufactuers support Blu-ray, as does most studios. I'll post more once I'm confident on the details. Right now, D-VHS is the best format out there, and the best of what's proposed. JVC's reluctence to share the D-Theater encryption, the lack of consumer knowledge on HD, and the simple "VHS" in the name getting people to proclaim it a step down have basically kept it a niche format. That's a good thing in a way. DVD went mainstream resulting in full-screen discs. A format meant to cater to HT junkies now does so to the common Joe. I'd rather stick to video, and hated being bashed for my views on the new, over-compressed, and oft-badly written format. However, the point is mute since I prefer widescreen and subtitled anime. HT is a confusing thing. I have 4 VCRs, 2 S-VCRs, 3 DVD players(my dad's doing), not counting my PS2 and XBox, and several TV's that make every format look great, including an old 9" that only tasted DVD briefly, and a great retired 25" that never shall, if I can help it. One of the DVD players is even a DVD-A player, though there's nothing at Best Buy I'd want for the format.

Continuity Errors in the OT
Time
The biggest error I've seen that no one has mentioned is Luke's X-Wing on Yavin. We see Luke getting into an X-wing with a solid red stripe. According to this site only one X-wing and one Y-wing was built full scale. (Check out the next page, it details one SE change the pissed me off - the use of Red two only in scanning the X-wings for the "improved" BoY).

However, during the entire battle, Luke is piloting a X-wing with a broken stripe

Finally, back at the Rebel base, Luke is seen exiting the X-wing with a solid stripe.

I didn't see this on that site listed above.

Also, how about the inaccurate Death Star plans? Technology at the time refused to allow an off-center circle put inside another circle. These are two things I was surprised weren't changed for the SE. After all, only a single X-wing was used for the battle, with only changes to the stripe done(the tell-tale number stripes pegging it as Red 2 and the rust give it away). Given that changing the stripe is easy, I fail to see why it wasn't.

Lucasfilm Animation Singapore

Looks like George Lucas wants a cut of the CGI pie. His plans to blend western style animation with anime has been done to death. The last thing animation fans like myself(I love both styles) need is something to cause comparisions between art styles. Personally, I'm not too fond of American/Asian hybreds(the Animatrix, etc.) It always comes off as some no-nothing's take on anime, which is often vastly different from real anime. So overall, I'm not sure this is a good thing.

Polls mean nothing. There was a poll of about 50,000 people on whether they will buy the DVD come fall. Only about 15,000 said they will, with the majority of the naisayers either not care, or despise the SEs. By your reason then, this means the majority of the people either hate Star Wars, or they hate the SEs. You keep pointing out that the discs are flying off the perverbial shelf, so that proves that the poll only represents a small portion of the community. It's like how the majority of the American people are liberal, yet due to the vocal conservative minority(especally the mostly conservative media) one would believe otherwise.

This leads me to this question based on your above statement then. Why are you on this forum? If you believe the overwelming majority disagrees with you, why stay? It's like an anime fan on a board full of people who despise anime. You yourself state that you wish to discuss things with people of other views, and that's fine. That is the point of a forum after all; to share one's opinion. But your behavior appears to go deeper than that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you enjoy arguing. You enjoy rubbing your views on others. You seem to take delight in trying to prove others wrong. Showing someone your view, while seeing their's is what should go on in any respectable forum. You seem to want to maliciously change the views of those around you. It's like the only reason you're here is to argue. That's called being an agitaitor, or troll in forum terms. We try to respect your opinion, you don't seem to want to respect ours. Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe you're a masocist. Maybe you enjoy having others argue with you to the point that it upsets you. This is another natural thing, but you'll find that having a strong negative opinion only complicates life. Pick your battles carefully, this view of yours is an uphill one, and it's not only a lost one, but an unjust one as well.

I tend to let the comments of others get to me. I don't know why I do it; after all, it's often a harmless brushoff that means nothing to the commentator. Depending on how one phases a comment, even the most simple of remarks can come off as a slam to me or anyone. The english language is quirky like that. I've been teaching myself to ignore these comments, instead looking for the true meaning behind said comments. This is why I've yet to truly rip you a new one at the moment. Arguing is a foolish waste of a man's intellect and time. Arguements held on the internet are even more worthless, as most people tend to not take a line of text seriously without the vehemence the spoken words would carry. So in the end, we are all wasting one anothers' precious time and dignity. Both sides are set in their ways, each unbending to the other's will. As such, this debate(if this can truly be called one) is a pointless one. It serves no use to this forum other then harse feelings, sharp tongues, and stinging wounds that are hard to heal. In a more public forum, this thread would have long ago been locked. In the end, we are all fools. Jimbo's a fool for picking a fight in favor of negativity. The rest of us, myself included, are fools for trying to prove him wrong, when he shows no sign of giving way to insult, threat, or, for the love of all things, reason. Since nobody will probably read this post, I'd be furture wasting my beath and time trying to stregthen my side of the arguement. As such, this will, hopefully, be my last post on the issue.

Hey, I tried being nice. I would rather choose to be gay than choose to hate someone because of it. Hating someone for a beleif/preference is wrong. It's plain and simple. As such, I don't hate you, Jimbo, only your narrow and misguided views. Plus, you contradict yourself. You say that it's a mental disorder, then say that they choose to be that way. You say that you'd never hate someone because of their skin color, since they can't choose it, yet you hate people with a so-called "mental disorder". One doesn't choose to have some "disease" or "mental disorder". These are contradictions to your own statements. By your own statements, your view on gays is the exact same as a rascist view on people of different cultures. So not only are you a bigot, but a contradictory one. The point mute however, since being gay falls into neither. Show me proof of this "disorder', scientific proof. Medical science has no physical proof of ADD, yet they continue to prescribe medicine for it(its nothing but behavoir patterns with some chemical defiencies nothing more). By that reason, if homosexuality is a "disease", as you claim, finding hard evidence to back it up should be easy. Either that, or admit that you're a discriminatory bigot(you support segregation, which leads to fascism), then drop this subject, and let us all get back to discussing Star Wars. I respect intelligent, educated opinions. I do not respect hate-mongering disguised as opinion.

Jimbo, I'll say this politely so as to not offend you, unlike what you have done to others. Hating someone because they are gay makes you a bigot. It makes you sound like a self-rightous "I'm right, you're wrong' person. Being a self-proclaimed homophobe is exactly the same as being a racest. You say it isn't because one can't choose their skin color, but it is. One can't choose who they fal in love with. It's not psychological, it's natural. One can choose to hate someone because of a minor fact, however. Hating a gay person is exactly like hating a black person in that way. You are basing your opinion of them on their sexual preference and not on the individual. You don't give these people a chance, when they are human, like you and me. There is no more of a homo disease as there is actual physical proof of the existence of ADD(they don't exist). Its merely the individuals behavior. Saying that gays have no right to marry can be equated to say women shoudn't vote.(in a, after all, they aren't men, why should they be given men's natural rights, kind of way). Saying it opens the door to child molesters is utter bullshit, its nothing of the sort.

My point is hating a gay person because they're gay(like God intended them to be) is the exact same as racism. Its unbrideled hatrid towards your fellow man. I before you say I'm some godless liberal, I'll have you know that I'm a confirmed Catholic. I have no problem with gays, jews, other races, etc. I'm part of no political party(though I would never vote republican), and am 100% heterosexual. However, I see no reason to force my lifestyle on someone. Being as I am isn't normal nor natural. Being gay isn't normal nor natural. You aren't normal nor natural. There is no such thing as being"normal" and nothing is truely "natural". We are all different, all unique, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Whatever if you feel that way. I personally like him now. Even you have to admit he is a vast improvement from before. Even Industrial Light and Magic admit that Special Edition Jabba was a hack job.

Do you have a link to that qoute? I'd love to read that admittal. Definately an improvement, but still below their efforts.

Here's a Hint of the Public's Reaction that the '04 DVDs would not be the OOT
Time
Actually, the bit on what version they are is all the way down in the review section. If I went to the site and said, "oh, Star Wars on DVD. Must buy"(i.e. the average movie goer), they'd be no need to scroll down, and hence, I'd have no idea which I'm buying. Also, just because the ignorent, we don't care masses are technically on your side, doesn't make it better.

Finally, a Star Wars SE that's actually better than the original.
Time
I'm sure most of you are familar with Star Wars Gangsta Rap, correct. It is a popular piece of flash animation over on AtomFilms.com. Recently, there's now a SE of it. The graphic, editing, and pretty much everything except the DS and Alderaan explosions(they had rings ^_^) are vastly improved . Here's the link to Newgrounds version. It's missing the little bits of flash on the credits, but has some history on it, plus a link to the full. Sorry if this is old news. Star Wars Gangsta Rap SE

and if your still tempted to buy this set... just look at what your buying!!!

I'll probably just grab a used boxset at Streetlight Records for the time being. Also, I was never tempted to buy this set. I was so upsetted by my dad buying the SE back in 97 that I ripped off the labels, destroyed the slip case, and even creased the Mos Eisley and I think Jabba scenes. I was 14, and it just really got to me(I also smashed up his ID4 box). He says he got it for 20 bucks, but what upset me was the fact that he doesn't watch them anymore, my mother doesn't really like them, my sister only watchs them if I am, and he knew how I felt about the SE. In short, it seemed at the time that he bought it just to aggravate me(he does make useless purchases from time to time). In hindsight, I over-reacted, and do regret it, but he still had no reason other than "its 20 bucks and I wanted it"(he still has yet to see RotJ SE). I've asked him not to buy this DVD unless I feel it worthwhile. I don't at this time. Lucas can keep his half-assed digital makeovers/experiments. The only Star Wars on DVD in this house is the Prequels(I bought TPM three time, WS new, WS used, DVD), so I do support Lucas, just not the SEs.

pros
better picture and sound
bonus materials disc?? ( i still think its gonna be like the Indy SF disc and therefore nothing special...)

cons
Hayden Ghost
New crappy looking jabba
greedo still shooting first
naboo and screaming gungans in the end celebration
awkward looking ian in ESB with dialogue changes
PLUs all the other SE changes that were done in 1977...

i watched my bootlegs tonight and must say that im completely satisfied with what i have...
the OT the way it was meant to be seen!

Amen to that Luke. Except for lack of widescreen, my videos have served me well for over 12 years and continue to. I will not be tepted by this digital Dark Jedi release.

All Of The OT Formats & Releases...
Time
My copy of the trilogy I believe is the 1992 pan&scan set. It was in a box(the bottom of which is long lost) which featured a bottom part with side flaps detailing the awards the films got. A top part then slipped over it with a message from GL written on it. I don't see that mentioned. The sides say Fox Video, and there is no pic of Vader. Recently, I've been meaning to grab a replacement VHS in widescreen. Which version is the best to hunt down? I hear the Faces set is missing a C-3PO line on the tractor beam.

Other SW DVD releases- expected by year's end
Time
I didn't care much for Clone Wars. The five minute format was little more to hide the fact that there's little to them. That and I'm a huge animation fan and felt the character designs rather bad considering the work that would supposed go into such a project. I always kept missing them so I couldn't record them. So finally I just bootlegged the thing to see them. I haven't watched the second season though. I remember the ewok movies, I think I really enjoyed them back when. Isn't Cyndel a reporter in the EU now or something?
