You're absolutely right there Jay. It does indded go against Lucas' usual Black and White mentality. I loved Ben's, "I've failed you Anakin".
I also agree on Vader breathing, and I thought seeing the inside of the mask was cool. I still don't know why he's wearing the ROTJ version of the costume though. As for the lines, keep in mind, the Vader persona is new. He's just been rebuilt. So I think it works. THe Frankinstein restraint pulling was a bit chessy though. I loved the use of The Force though.

Someone please make a fanfilm of this, that sounds like it'd have great potential. ^_^
I went to a midnight showing. THe premiere was great with trivia contests, auctions, raffles(I missed the prize wheel though my dad got a free movie ticket, and one guy got an Ipod shuffle he sold for 50 bucks). All in all, a lot of energy at theb event, and plenty of swag.
As for the film, I can't really comment until I get out of tomorrow's screening with my sister. I'm pleased to say that the emotions kicked in when they should have, so I'm not not disspointed there. The look of the film is much better than AOTC, so that's a plus. Even the film prints were gorgeous, and not the pixalated crap AOTC was.
I agree on the pacing being too swift at times. Plot points were being thrown out left and right. Scenes that could've been longer were too short and so on. THe biggest evidence of this is twofold. One, the scene were Anakin turns. It's just too sudden. Everything is the rest of the film was set up right. The killing of a defenseless Dooku, the uneasiness with the Jedi. THe knowledge that he's gone against the code, so he's touchy about it. Everything up to the moment itself. He helps kill Mace, then goes, "What have I done" then immediately bows to Palpatine. It would've worked a lot better if he rejected Palpatine, maybe ran out of the office, with Palpy after him, convincing him he did the right thing. Just maybe a two minute scene after, "what have I done" like that might have made it seem less spontanious.
I also loath the fact that Padme dies. It clashes with ROTJ badly. A new plothole is born. I also agree that they could've dwelled after, "Noooooooooo", maybe show Vader collaspe. Have it be an image of the Dark Lord in his ultimate moment of torment.
THE GOOD
Just about every scene with Palpatine. The dialog was actualy good for most of them.
THat silent moment where Anakin and Padme each stare at the other's location. How he did it I don't know, but that one scene spoke more volumes on their relationship without a single word than all the dialog between them before that moment. Basically, any moment where this film took a breather, was usually good.
Seeing the Tantivie IV again. It didn't look quite right, but the set was great.
Order 66. The music and cimatography there was top notch, tears flowed. The impact was achived.
Anakin about to slay the Younglings. While the timing was off, and the character so changed, the scene did still have a twing to it.
Anakin's reasons for turning. While i still like the "Seasoned veteren trying to become stronger to help more" idea, this wasn't as bad as I thought. When I originally heard the reason, I thought it was lame and uninspired. I think it blended into Anakin as he had been established though. The turn might have been hasty, but at least the reasons were sound in that he's still trying to be more than he is. Still striving to be stronger. Trying to bring peace and to save what he hold dear, Padme and the Republic. It's not quite as selfish as it sounded, but more misguided.
Crash land on Coruscant. Much better than preceeding scenes.
Basic vehical design, and overall look and feel. Didn't feel quite OT, but better than AOTC, and more on par with TPM.
Dialogue and opening to the Anakin vs Ben fight. The writing seemed to fit my perception of Anakin. Ben could've been a bit more persuasive, but it worked, and tears flowed.
Music. But that's a given.
Anakin cutting down the Trade Federation guys. I really didn't expect to see them past I. I'm just glad they're dead.
Anakin's force choke of Padme. Given his motivation, it was pretty much his final straw.
Yoda vs Palpy. While I loathed that it interrputed the Mustafar action right as the viewer was pulled into it, it still worked mostly due to the use of the force and not really the sabers.
Seeing Alderaan. Seeing Mcquarrie's art come to life was exhilarating. THe whole scene I was less focused on Leia and Bail, and more on taking it all in. It's something I desperately wanted to see in the prequels, and, while short, I got it. I was practically hyperventalating it's name.
THE EHH
The opening battle. Visually stunning, but really hard to follow at times. Did help show a bond of Anakin to Ben though. The action was still a bit too much. Mostly showing off CGI. Still, the Clone Wars needed a huge space battle.
Grievous. Not the totaling gimicky character I was dreading. Still, he only really existed to get Ben off Coruscant. The fight wasn't bad. Nor was Ben's "Uncivilized" comment. Mostly though, I like how it seperated Ben from Anakin when Anakin needed him most.
Maces death and Palpatines emergence as Sith. I think the scene plays better in the novel when I read thje leaked chapter. In it, Palpy choose his words carefully so as to make it sound like he was innocent on the recorder. It worked nicely. I really expeacted from the novel that this be more extravagent. It's not bad, but the book owns the scene.
Kashykk. Where are all the trees, man? The battles not bad, and some rumored stuff was thankfully not there(the Yoda fart). A bit to short. Like everything else.
THE BAD.
Early dialogue and acting. It improved considerable when the drama turned up though.
Anakin and Palpatine's adventures with gravity. You mean to tell me the gravity is on a fixed plane and if the ship dives, people slide? That's somewhat messed up. It's not really bad, but it's still a bit odd. Though the scene was good for what it was.
Battle droid voices. Squeaky voices just take the menace out of everything.
Palpy's voice after the lightning and such. The makeup also flutcuated quite a bit in a bad way. While I understand it, it was downright near comical at times. Palpy is a cunning, dignified villian, not a psycho. It was pretty weird. I'll see if it bothers me much on repeated viewings.
THe way Yoda and Palpy interrupted Ben and Anakin. The scenes good and all, but it rips you from the emotional stuff to quickly. Place the scene cut a little later, or have the moment before the duel.
The rushing of Anakin's turn. As explained above. A big detail. I'll know for sure on the second screening.
Padme dying in childbirth. Was Leia remembering Bail's wife and getting it mixed up or something? I'd known of this for some time. Still, it's probably my biggest complaint.
As you can see, I liked a lot more than I didn't. All in all, I'd say that while it's not exactly the film I had been anticipating for six or more years, it's pretty close. If anything, had Lucas paced it more, let more things sink in, this could've been a great film. Still, it's probably the best of the PT, as it should be. Now, I nreally liked AOTC until recently. So maybe I'll find more faults with this one as years passs, or it could grow on me. Still, the feel was muuch better, and Anakins motives more clear.

Hmm.., MeBeJedi sniped me here. I too like the ESB and TPM duals for the same reasons. They're probably two and three repectively. I'm hoping ROTS can ehco some of that power like I long hoped it would. I'll know in about fourteen hours.

Joe on the other hand is a troll that is only here to act superior than us and call us childish names. If he actually contributed to the forum I could let it slide, but he doesn't from what I've seen. We're merely playthings to him. He wait's for an easily twistable comment and attacks. I really don't see why you'd defend him. All forums have people like them.
I seriously don't get why people hang around boards they don't agree with just to say, "you guys are all nuts". If they think that way, why are they here? It's not like we hang around the TF.N boards telling everyone how much the SE sucks or that they're insane for thinking otherwise.

I rented Dr. Strangelove. It's one of the few Kubrick movies I've seen that I really like. I watched it with my mother and late grandma. My grandma was laughing more than we did. I'd never seen her react to a movie like that before.

George Lucas is probably more sane than any twat on this board. After all, I don't see him sitting around on a message board whining like a frickin' baby because he didn't get his way. Get out and perhaps find a girl and stop whining because some filmmaker you don't even know didn't give you what you want. That's truly sad. Insulting Lucas doesn't change a damn thing, and it's not going to help you get what you want.
Y'know what else is pretty pathetic? Your coming onto a messageboard where people do nothing but whine and bitch that they don't get their way just to whine and bitch about their whining and bitching. That's a bit hypocritical, don't ya think?
Pricisely. In fact, it's even more pathetic, since he claims we have no lives, yet he has time to ridicule us? What's the matter? Your phantom girlfriend too busy tonight?
We're on this board commenting on a quote Lucas made. Isn't that why these places exist? If we were here kissing his ass, would you be happy? Would you be complementing us on our butt-kissing skills? I doubt it. You'd be calling us the same thing, except replace "whining about Lucas" with "being too in-love with a stupid movie."
If it's one thing I've learned, the one that ridicules others, is most likely the one with the problem. In the end, I don't think you take issue with us having a problem with George, you just want to make yourself feel superior. "Look at me, I'm telling off a bunch of people I don't know on an issue I barely care about. Aren't I cool? I'm so much better than those whiners, because they whine about movies, and I whine about them." Get off your high horse. You're no better than us, and we than you. That's assuming you actually wish to contribute something.
As for me, I turn 22 at the end of the month. I love the old films and the EU, and I like the PT. They have their problems, and could've been better, but in the end, they get the job done. I have bigger issue with the SE. THe PT is pretty much in my kanon, the SE isn't.

As for the premiere, it was awesome. There wasn't much hecticness until Hamill showed up(lots of shoving at that point). The 501st costumes were amazing. We had a great Palpatine, Chewie, Vader, numourous Storm/Scout/Clone Troopers, Royal Guards, Imperial Officers, a Han Solo, Count Dooku, a Boba and Jango Fett, and even a slave Leia (my sis says she saw a movie perfect C-3PO, he must have entered after the event). Everyone went nuts when Mark showed up, I snapped my last picture before the roll ended, then got my insert poster signed(a clip of which was on the news story too) and a handshake as he walked down the carpet. Afterwards, my sister was able to get Jason Mewes'(Jay of Jay and Silent Bob) autograph, so she was happy.
All I can say was that I'll never believe it when a newspaper says that those not in attendence will not be able to see anything. I got to do everthing I had hoped without paying the 250 bucks.
