How much extra work would it be to undo the 3:2 pulldown for an X0 PAL version?
That is Step One of any decent preservation project. If Laserman's talking about anything else but (e.g. colour, detail, etc.), then that's already done. There is no point in doing ANYTHING to a given cap until you've IVTC'ed. Even Dr. Gonzo's version of several years ago was IVTC'ed.

LOTR? Wow, I can't imagine it in HD!
Then you should start hanging out on Usenet. I capped LOTR:TTT and LOTR:ROTK myself, and acquired LOTR:FOTR about a year or so ago. Both theatrical and EE, I think. Either 720p or 1080i; can't recall. They're around here someplace. (And by 'here' I mean my computer room full of junk).

Just for future reference, to download only certain parts of a torrent, first load the torrent, then get the file details up (how you do that is client-specific; I'm using Azureus). In Azureus, at least, you can then pick which files to fast-track, and which to not download at all. Pretty cool. Didn't know you could do that...

My e-mail is in my .sig -- I'm sorta boycotting PM here, since there's that lame limit. Sort of a necessary boycott, actually, because I find myself constantly on the limit...
I do as little as possible with torrents, because I've never had great luck with them. But I'll see if I can't figure out how to grab just the files I want. Please don't let that stop you e-mailing, though! I'd rather get them twice than not at all.
Thanks again!

Still, that's good information. Thanks for at least confirming there are covers to be had. I don't suppose some kind soul could e-mail them to me, could they? I'm not keen on getting a bunch of 4GB torrents just for a few megs of covers.

There is no way I’m searching through 1326 posts on 54 pages with the el-crappo Search function on this board:
Are there any “official” covers for CC v.2? (If so, where are they?)
There was some talk in another thread about a month ago about putting a “summary post” at the beginning of a thread to keep all the up-to-date info in one place. For the most part, that apparently hasn’t happened. It certainly hasn’t happened in the huge "Definitive Collection DVD Covers " thread, where I would assume there are some good posts in along with the sometimes-off-topic chit-chat.
However, I am quite willing to let this thread become something like that: let me know what to rename this thread, and post a bunch of on-topic, relevant links, and I’ll try to keep this updated.
Or just let me know where the CC v.2 covers are, and let this puppy die.

- made thumbnails of all the scans (16)
- made a "spotting guide" to show how the scans go together
- burned a disc with the scans, thumbs, and guide for segaflip (will be in the mail tomorrow)
- burned a disc with the raw & processed AC-3 files for MeBeJedi
- packaged up the LDs and the AC-3 disc (will be in the mail tomorrow)
My part of the project is coming to an end. Hope you all will think I've done a good job. Also hope I'll qualify for a copy of the finished product!

Can you get those discs to MeBe ASAP? I'll reimburse you shipping charges.
I'll get them out by the weekend. I'll find out the total shipping costs (including, if you don't mind, the incoming surcharges for taxes and duties), and submit my expenses after the discs are outta here.

Reading back over the thread, it seems pretty likely RB will approve. But I'd like to have it made explicit before sending anything anywhere.
Assuming he does approve, though, how you want this stuff sent? It's about 699MB. I'd rather not torrent it, and I have no experience with posting big-ass binaries to Usenet (no stranger to downloads of big-ass binaries, of course) nor any other download-this-huge-file system.
In fact, I'd be happiest sending out some CDs in the mail. I think I can probably knock off a few copies and stick 'em in envelopes faster than I can figure out PowerPost and wait for that to finish.
So, if you're interested in a copy, please send me some e-mail (click below) and let me know your address. Serious enquiries only, please! These files are not ready-to-print DVD covers; they're huge, overlapping raw scans. You will need to know a fair amount about Photoshop (I'd imagine layers, Gaussian blurring, resizing and cropping will be involved) and some time and effort will have to be invested to get them ready for DVD coverization.

While I have a captive audience, let me remind you all once again that JPG is crap at things like white text on a black background; it was designed for photos, and photos are really the only thing JPG is good for. For anything else (text, solid colours, line art -- in other words, a lot of the stuff that ends up on a DVD cover) a compressed-but-lossless file format like PNG or TIF is much better. And, in some instances, a lossless format can actually be smaller than a lossless JPG of the same thing!
Anyway. Here is a tiny sample of one of the scans:

I'm getting it on 5 DVD's. I'm told that's how many it takes.
Then I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't been NPS'ed. Five is good, but I'll bet there's only two or three of actual HD picture and 5.1 sound data; the rest will be padding out to the typical ATSC 9.8 GB/h.

do they usually post the full files?
Yup. If you use NPS, then it's usually possible to get the whole PID with the HD stream onto a couple or three DVD-Rs.

Some of this is almost certainly moot. Any discs released earlier than the THX (Faces) trilogy are bound to sorta suck, video-wise. I mean, there are quite a few pre-Faces NTSC letterbox discs, and nobody's using those because they're just not as good as the later stuff.
I believe the Def. Col. is also pre-Faces... and nearly everyone uses that one.
The DC is of exactly the same vintage as Faces. The transfer is identical. If the master tape still existed, it'd probably have 'Definitive Collection / Faces Master Tape' written on it in Sharpie.

Audio-wise, it of course doesn't matter if the video is fullscreen [sic] or widescreen.

Of course not. Jill is the fifth member of the hypothetical group; the X0 Project appears to have four members...
