Info Wanted: Have there been any decent edits of TPM which try a different opening scene?
Time

I’ve seen a lot of people take the opening of TPM and go right into the maul battle (most that do this are prequel combinations where they edit all 3 into one long movie) other than ones like that I’ve never seen a whole new opening, im sure it could be done btw im super excited to hear that this is almost done I cant wait

HDMI Capture Options

Check out . .
How to capture HDCP-encrypted HDMI sources (Vudu, Netflix, Directv, Virgin Media, etc.) . . lots of info and feedback.

Thanks, very helpful info here so what Im seeing is basically at the most I would just need a HDMI capture/recorder and possibly a HDMI Splitter or HDCP remover I was thinking something like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1080P-HDMI-HD-Capture-Video-Recorder-Box-HDCP-Decode-F-Wii-PS4-Blueray-US-/161953784955?hash=item25b532a47b:g:t9AAAOSw-zxWoFIH

since it seems to have HDCP removal built in

would one of these also work

HDMI Capture Options
Time

hey guys im new to the HDMI recording/capture scene but something I’ve always wanted to do is preserve HD recorded movies etc from my DVR and burn them to DVD-DL/BR-R discs in HD what is the best way to go about this, I’ve done some research and it seems like the best option would be to get an HDMI cloner/recorder box and capture what I want and save it to the devices usb port and saving them on a usb stick/hard drive then to transfer the files to pc and burn them their what do you guys think any input would be very helpful to me

Thanks 😃

Question about Video Cable Quality
Time

Hey guys so recently I’ve been trying to preserve a few laserdiscs as well as capture a few movies from my DVR I was wondering what a really good quality RCA cable would be because as of now I’ve just done some tests with generic ones and im not very satisfied with the quality, my LD player only has RCA and no s-video and my DVR only has RCA and HDMI out but since I don’t have a way to capture HDMI at the moment I have no choice but to use RCA cables also the picture seems to look washed out could better cables fix this, Im not asking for Blu-Ray quality (not yet anyway, that’s will happen later) but at least a crisper picture

Thanks 😃

Help: looking for... E.T. 20th Anniversary Edition in HD? (with info)

It’s mostly done. Just need to spot check it and actually render it. When I mux it, it will just be muxed to the lossy audio of the HDTV rip. Someone else can come in and mux it to the DTS.

People can then take a look at it. I’d appreciate it if at least one or two people familiar with the changes would make sure nothing is missed.

I could definitely review it and check if anything’s missing, I’ve seen both cuts millions of times being one of my favorite movies of all time I now it inside and out

Yes I agree 100% to quote Mr. Spielberg “There’s going to be no more digital enhancements or digital additions to anything based on any film I direct… When people ask me which E.T. they should look at, I always tell them to look at the original 1982 E.T. If you notice, when we did put out E.T. we put out two E.T.s. We put out the digitally enhanced version with the additional scenes and for no extra money, in the same package, we put out the original '82 version. I always tell people to go back to the '82 version” see he had no intentions ever to try to replace the original version he offered both together for one price you can chose whatever cut you want to watch that’s the way it should be the problem I have with George Lucas and I think I can speak for ever Star Wars fan when I say this no one would mind the special editions or even all the changes the problem is unlike Spielberg Lucas wants us to only have the versions he wants us to see and refuses to give us the original versions, if every version was available their would be no issue we could just pick whatever we want what’s wrong is him saying “no you can only watch these and can never have the originals again” that’s the problem right their, and honestly its so stupid from a money making standpoint I mean you know what the demand/love for your franchise is and refuse to offer the one thing that would bring in more money and on top of that if your a huge collector/SW fan you’ll probably buy the special editions as well so they wouldn’t lose a cent

When it comes to special features I know a lot if not all for the 20th anniversary were ported over to the Blu-Ray release the only thing I could think of would be trailers and ads for the 20th anniversary release

20th anniversary trailer (720p) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYAETtIIClk
another one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm1GI4vKcWc
TV Spot - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gC0uO1iELA
uk tv spot/trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP4qnhPPapo
Reeses Pieces commercial - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikDt8gxWnSs
nickelodeon showing of 20th anniversary (very weird) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAHR37PRmZ4

I know their was one in 2002 that was for seatbelt safety where E.T. makes a car fly I couldn’t find it though

would I also be eligible for you to send me a copy, I know I didn’t really do anything but I feel like im a big part of it for suggesting it in the first place, plus im just so blown away about how quickly everyone jumped on this its nice to see my one man quest to find out if an HD version existed not only proved successful but also became a preservation my only regret is not being able to help gathering sources, perhaps one day I too will be able to assist in a project id really appreciate it btw how big do you think the file would be, my internet sucks and id really like a copy but depending on size I might not be able to download (without it taking an insane amount of time)

Smithers' Prequel Fanedits (a Work In Progress)
Time

YES, why has no one else thought of that in this case Maul is resurrected as a cyborg (not totally unlike in the clone wars except without the robotic legs) so it wouldn’t make sense if he was collecting jedi lightsabers since he’s a sith he just has his own plus he always had a double bladed sabre, so he’s used to wielding more than one blade, to make use of his extra arms he just decided to wield 4 single bladed ones and ditch his old design to better fit his new enhanced skills as a cyborg

Info & Discussion: Fullscreen Laserdisc / DVD Preservations
Time

so X-Men United along with the first Fast and Furious are not pan and scan in the traditional sense but rather sort of a hybrid between open matte and pan and scan, im a little confused about ET are the full screen dvd’s open matte for some shots but not others ?

fun fact I noticed no matter what channel it comes on Terminator 3 is always shown in open matte when it airs
