I'm actually planning something like this at the moment guys. Let me just say that I don't think ST6 is a movie that 'needs' editing. I enjoy it just the way it is, I'm just curious how things would go with a few alterations here and there.
I've been thinking about the pink blood issue as one thing to tackle. However a few other minor things would need to be tweaked to acommodate this. In any case I don't understand how changing the blood [to pink] allows for a lesser rating. Go back and watch that part, It's still pretty fucking violent. The gore is cartoon-y but the impact is the same in my eyes.
I am also considering adding in some footage from the star trek: Voyager episode - Flashback. [or was it flashbacks?] = really just the excelsior evading the Klingons. I'm only planning to add this if if works well without disrupting the existing storyline, Other wise ?I'll drop it. I am aware that the episode in question has a few plot inconsistencies with the plot of st6.
The Shakespeare stuff has to stay imo, although i'm a little ambivalent on the Nixon bit. I think it would work much better if only spock says "..an old human proverb..."
Going over my notes those are really the only things I've considered so far, apart from minor things like correcting typos and what not.
I haven't seen the Voyager episode in years so i'm going to go rewatch that and see if there's anything i can do with it.
Anyone else interested in working along side me in this, or even tackling their own version?
I'm basically back on track now, If only a little behind. I'm a lot more motivated when I can process files quickly. There are a few small things that I'm still not happy with and I know that if I don't handle them now then I'll never be satisfied.
I'll definitely try get some stuff out to you guys shortly, Just don't hold me to any sort of release timeline, I've only really got weekends to work on this at the moment. In the meantime you can go about your business. You'll know when I've got something worth showing off...[of course comments are always welcome]
Okay thanx. As far as having nothing actually done yet, that's good to hear. I've had ideas for a saga edit for some time, and while I can't say i agree with everything that's been said for the most part the ranch seems headed in at least an interesting direction. Just hard to get a bearing on things from outside the circle.
exactly Ady, If anything it should be Shaw in Black / Brown Jedi robes - that's an edit that would actually FIT continuity between films. I'd even be happy to see Anakin in hologram form at the end still burned and scarred. Really he shouldn't appear at all - How could he simply join with the force if it took Yoda and Obi many years of training? I guess for any sort of closure He [Ani] really should have met up with the essence of QG Jinn - The guy who actually figured it out!
One thing it may have going for it is that they seem to be focused on an actual mission and what may happen rather than presenting a sinister Villain character that the last few films made a very tired premise. At first Nemesis looked interesting, Later i realised that the trailers were showing 100% footage that does not appear in the film at all, So the movie I was drawn to did not actually exist. that part I don't mind so much but most of the characters had no depth.
I'm guessing Star Trek as it were is either dead or one foot in the grave at this point.
All said and done I wouldn't mind seeing Gary Sinise playing Bones.
So I just picked up a new PC for a bargain price while out shopping. Yay right? - Not quite. It seem that my current [read: old] PC chose that moment to die on me...
Coincidence?
I don't consider it a total loss as I was getting a little frustrated with it. I've lost my videos and settings for the project but I still have all my artwork and original resources...And access to my hard drives.
It's a slight setback but progress should happen a lot faster now that I'm on a faster, and far more reliable rig.
For the most part I am still in the planning and testing stages but I DID have the whole intro sorted. I'll let you guys know when I've got the project back on track. And as a few of you may know it's a long weekend here in OZ so I should have some time to throw into this
I think Star Trek Nemesis is a clear indication of when the 'wrong' people get involved with the production of Star Trek. If they want to ensure success, The need only hire Nicholas Meyer. The old 'even / odd' theory about the series is Bunk, The early even numbered films were good cuz they were all done by Meyer.
This could go either way, Enterprise [the series] was a bit of a reboot but it still managed [despite what some fans think] to fit into the 'universe' of Star Trek. If it's going to be a 'Reboot' Then why retread characters at all? Why not simply focus on fresh characters? - Or are they looking at this from a 'cash cow' point of view?
I think a focus solely on the relation between Kirk and spock is a tired theme and they should be worried about crafting a good story.
"The economic models of the other [films] were very much based on the fans out there and their purchasing power," says Orci. "With this one we're going for the broad audience to bring people into Trek for the first time."
- It's obvious by this that we are dealing with idiots here...Didn't ANYBODY learn ANYTHING from a little film called AVP [alien vs predator]. I mean WHO exactly will this film be aimed at? Doesn't sound at all like it's for fans of the established saga.
Paramount offered the team full access and support when approaching the franchise. That, combined with their script -- which the writers say adheres to Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's original vision for the franchise - meant this was a project they couldn't pass up.
I'm getting mixed signals here? is it a 'reboot' or is it not? These guys are all over the place with their comments. Unless they have been taken way out of context which i think is equally likely i guess.
If it's a toss up between a crap star trek film or no film at all then I say no movie at all. Don't get me wrong, I hope it's great but current signs indicate [to me] that this is a doomed production. I'd love to be wrong about this...
Wow. I haven't commented yet because I was catching up with yr discussion here and at jw fan. You are some kind of...good musician. In regards to Episode 2, One par tI always loved was the music right when Yoda prepares to battle Dooku [imo it's better than the actual battle], Do you have plans for this yet?
I felt the two later Jedi Knight games were fantastic.
Lucasarts did not make them, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy were made by Raven. Sorry but we're talking about Lucasarts games here and whether they suck or rock, A good few people seems to be holding in high praise [great] games that were only released through Lucasarts.
Since he did re-register after being banned what makes you think he can leave of his own free will? I'm sure he'll be tempted to come and peek at our replies at least. I don'ty think someone with Zig's personality can stay hidden for long...
Okay, I've been tweaking away at the new 'intro' sequence. I've managed to trim it down to 3 minutes and 52 seconds exactly.
On the downside I couldn't really find a star wars cue that fit the sequence well, However I did find something that fits very nicely. The song "Remember, Remember" from the V for Vendetta soundtrack. The main reason I like it is that it feels dramatic without having any recognizable heroic themes - at least in regards to star wars. Once Ventress is introduced to Sidious the original Music will be used since it's already in the style I want [Emperors theme] and it would be a headache to edit the dialogue.
Thankfully the music is fairly lacking when the character speak elsewhere. Are there any regions that Volume 1 came out in that have 5.1? Region 4 is definitely only 2.0, I'd assume they just didn't have big plans for DVD back in the early days.
Some pics and clips shouldn't be too far away guys...
And if there's anything I've learned from being around here lately it's - "SAVE EARLY, SAVE OFTEN" So I'm being extra cautious at the moment
So I've got a rough cut together of the entire intro sequence. this is basically 2 pieces. A pre main title intro sequence and the main titles themselves. It's still kind of rough since hardly any of the audio is in and only a few shots have the effects I plan to add. Now I'm preparing to cut these together with all the dvd quality footage [some bits are rough and sketchy] and continue adding in the rest of the sound and the dialogue. The intro part itself runs for about 5 minutes and is kind of effects heavy even tho a LOT of it will probably seem subtle or non existant. So what is it then?...
here be Spoilers
Feeling kind of rushed and out of place later in the series I've brought chapters 6 and 7 to the forefront. Basically it stars with a close up of Asajj on dooku's couch. we hear faint sounds from the ratattak arena and suddenly [thru the magic of transitions] we are there. The main setting is the stuff from chapter 7 fairly unaltered except for effects shots, While the 'meat' of chapter 6 will appear in 3 flash back sequnces throughout. Hopefully the points where I've chosen to cut back and forth work nicely without confusing anyone. At this point I don't really have anything to post yet but hopefully I will soon.
after I've got this at least mostly done, I'll look at focusing on the Muunilist stuff. Since chapters 2 and 3 basically tell storys that run parallel and end with the same event i'll look at cutting and combining those, so we are not retreading the timeline.
I'm not entirely sure if i should pull out chapter 5 - Kitt fisto and slot it later into the story yet. I'm planning to go from chapter 2/3 to 8 then 9 since they cover most of the muunilist story. I may split up the kitt fisto plot line and possibly mace windu and slot them within the main story in small segments. Since they both only really focus on small area and dont really make reference to time that should work well.
I'll see what can be salvaged from chapter 1, I've already got ideas for one scene, but the rest is left out at the moment since the my version of the story begins after that.
At this point I'm pretty happy with the way things start out, I debated whether to go the route of an intro sequence but hopefully it plays out interestingly. I guess time will tell.
Stay tuned and I'll try get something up soon [But no promises]
I reported Chefelf to Lucasfilm about this incident, so at last I'll have my revenge...
Why would you post that here? did you expect support? sympathy? You are only going to keep pissing people off with behaviour like that. As stated chefelf has done nothing wrong, he hasn't wronged you and he certainly hasn't wronged Lucasfilm.
The thing that annoys me most is that you posted this in multiple threads.
BTW, What water opera were you watching, cuz the only one i saw involved an extreme close up of Palpy and Anakin.
I tend to view TFN tutorials as a bit of a guide and then go off and experiment. My methods are probably not the best but I get results, If a like I can help you out with a step by step guide. At least on the way i do sabers. Generally I create some fresh layers and assign them later [ie: screen] and I don't really use the line tool for anything, I'd highlight the original core [white area] with the magic wand and use that as a guide.
