FIXED UNIVERSE: The Expanded Universe fan-editing - THE WHOLE THRAWN TRILOGY IS NOW AVAILABLE
Time

At first I wasn't entirely clear on what you were planning here but having re-read the entire thread i have to say I'm very impressed. The colour corrections look amazing and the alterations and fixes are subtle enough that they don't stand out or look awkward.

I never really got into the comics but I'd be far more inclined to check out your reworked versions Darknikos.

GREAT WORK GUYS.

Spoilers

Batman/Bale did alright but his voice acting as batman seemed phony at times.

Batman seemed to be running around like a chicken with his head cut off for the entire movie.

My take is that was intentional, I mean he doesn't want people to know that he's Bruce wayne under there, He forces that voice to help hide his identity as well as to scare his enemies and give him an edge.

And I liked that he was in over his head, Not simply a case of batman strolls in and saves the day.

You have your opinion and i wont argue it, but it alomost seems like we saw two different movies.

Watchmen Film

Could you point me in the right direction? - I've got no idea really. titles to look for etc...

Also, Does anyone know the time period this movie is set in? hard to judge by the trailer, unless it jumps around a bit.

oh and I swear it looks like that dood [Doctor Manhattan] is strumming an air guitar at the 27 second mark in the trailer.

EDIT

Ah! 1985 in an alternate reality? - That would explain a bit.

Have you watched Gotham Knight dayv?

I'm planning to check it out but hearing very mixed things. All i'm after is honest opinions not hype about it linking the films and what not.

Of those that have seen TDK, what are your thoughts on a sequel? Would you be satisfied if they don't do any follow up films? Personally I'm satisfied with where the story currently lies, And I'm also concerned that the studio may want to keep churning out sequels given the success...which could lead us back into Joel Schumacher territory at some point. Granted that's a worst case scenario [in my mind].

It's an alternate version [the begining is the end is the begining] of the Batman 3 theme by Smashing Pumpkins [the end is the begining is the end]. Although i can't be sure that this one wasn't also in the film. I finally saw the trailer and it looks interesting. I felt the tune suited the visuals...

Is it worth trying to get up to speed on Watchmen at this point or should I wait and watch the film with an open mind? I'm not asking whether people think the movie is faithful to the story so much as getting in on a [somewhat] ground floor without any preconceptions.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: The InfoDroid Edit (Released)
Time

I have to agree with Darthbo about the palace shot before showing club Obiwan, It just seems distracting for a short moment. Other than that I can't really fault it. The Edit is a hell of a lot of fun to watch and it does feel a little closer to 'Raiders' than it did before. I've already passed it on to two others and I'll be interested to see what they have to say...

BLOODY AWESOME MOVIE !!! I WON'T SAY ANYMORE ABOUT IT THAN THAT RIGHT NOW. OH, THERE IS ONE THING. THE MOVIE CLOCKS IN AT 2 HOURS 44 MINUTES.

BTW, THE T4 TRAILER WAS PRETTY DAMN COOL TOO.

You Bastard! - nah, Jk ;) I've managed to see the trailer now...It just would have been a nice icing on a delicious cake

Just can't wait for more people to see this so we can discuss without fear of spoiling. Unless we resort to random quotes without contect.

Bruce Wayne: "I need a new suit"

Lucius Fox: "3 button IS a little 90's"

Patience young 'rod. Trust me it's well worth the wait.

What can I say that wont ruin the film?...Empty your bladder before you go in, This is a looong movie ;) The less you know going in the better, and if you've watched all the trailers then you probably still know next to nothing, which is good. This movie has an interesting story to tell and as long as it was there was never a down moment, never was i thinking 'spin on'...

One thing i did really notice was that impact sounds like punched sounded really beefed up, almost to the extend of indiana jones.

I don't want to say too much until others chime in, other than, Yes this movie is as good as you are hoping it to be and probably a good deal better. Easily better than Iron man [which i LOVED], and yes it does soften the blow of enduring lesser films that failed to deliver [Indy 4 I'm looking squarely at you!]

And finally Heath, I actually had to sit there and tell myself "this is Heath Ledger". The man playing the joker was totally unrecognizeable to me. Early oin I had doubts, I think we all did, But it's a portrayal of the character that is above all else very entertaining.

There were rumblings of a possible Terminator 4 teaser attached but sadly this was not the case.

if anyone has any questions, I'll try answer them without plot spoilers...But it's probably better just to wait it out.

Idea & Help Wanted: Star Wars Dark Empire: The Movie
Time

At first I wasn't really sure what you meant, But now that I've taken a look I have to say I'm all for it. I've also thought aout this sort of thing before, I toyed with various panels from the Reversal of fotune strips on hyperspace. but never really made anything of worth.

Are you planning on keeping text balloons? - Just wondering if you'd stick with whats there or go with subtitles. I supose it may depend on what sources you have to work with.

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Adywan,

In regards to your decision to assemble TESB:R in HD 720p, Are you still planning to release this as a standard DVD as well?

I ask for two reasons -

1 Distribution

Given that ANH:R clocked in around the 7GB mark and a lot of people are still only getting their hands on it now, Just how are people going to get a much larger video out and about?

2 Compatibility

By this point everyone has a dvd player, But how many people really have the setup for High Definition content? Especially in a loungeroom setup.

As a sidenote, Just how noticeable is the quality between 576p and 720p on a movie as badly treated as the star wars films have been? This is a serious question, I'm not trying to ba a smartass.

I have a great interest in HD, I'm just wondering if it is all worth it. I'm hoping it's certainly not akin to a white elephant. If my comments seem out of place, by all means put me on the right track [Adywan].

DOOM: knee deep in the edit. (* unfinished project *)
Time

Okay, So i was tinkering with the various fonts I've acquired and there were two stand outs that I really liked. Although I wasn't quite getting the right flavour with either so I was toying with using both. I did a few tests to see how it would look throughout the film. Here's a few quick mockups - I'd probably add a few filters to make them look more detailed. maybe add a sheen to one of them...I'm not entirely sold on this style but I'm calling it 'Plan A' :)

http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/3137/005acttwocopytn4.jpg

I'll most likely stick with a nice simple font like NewsGothic for subtitles and general information. At this point I will probably go with burnt in subtitles. But I haven't decided for sure.

I'm toying with an idea of a simple 2D animation for the intro / title sequence. Sort of in the style of the Venture Bros. Cartoon opening.

After i've sorted those ideas I'll take a serious look at what I want to actually edit with the film. I've got some ideas already but it depends on what I can get away with really.

Hmm, I might try make it to a midnigth screening. I came late to the first film bit i wanna get in on the ground floor this time around.

Looks to be the most anticipate film of the year...at least so far. According to Wikipedia the film will be released on July 17, 2008 in Australia, on July 18, 2008 in North America, and on July 25, 2008 in the United Kingdom.

What I've been wondering is whether Heath Ledger will win any type of awards for his performance, Posthumously.

And Hotrod, You can see in the trailer a shot of Harvey looking messed up, So at least physically the transformation appears to take place.

DOOM: knee deep in the edit. (* unfinished project *)
Time

Thanx for the info Dayv. And yeah just to clarify once again - I'm not trying to make something better, merely something different.

If anyone has suggestions on things like song choices I'll be glad to consider them. I've just been taking notes and testing some ideas so far and I'd like to get it at least mostly planned out on paper before i begin proper. I am also hoping to do a few scenes in 3d scattered throughout the film. So I want my ideas tight before I bother since it's a very lengthy process.

Okay I've sat down with some ideas and here is what I have so far.

"Doom: The movie"

I hadn't really planned anything yet but I'd like to have a coming attractions segment at the beginning to help set the mood. [Like Machete to Planet Terror.]

These could either be fake trailers ala Machete or possibly trailers for other fanedits, If other editors would be interested in that sort of thing. It depends on variables like how long it would take to do this project.

At present I've got the movie [in my head] split into 3 main acts as well as an alternate intro and an extended outro. Basically it would flow like this.

A new sequence for 'Universal Pictures Presents' and the title of the film – which I'm simply calling Doom: The movie. I couldn't think of a sub title that didn't sound lame. These animated title shots would be intercut with various shots [most likey close ups of hands and what not] of the Stahl / C24 experiment.

After the titles will be the main intro sequence [with grindhouse style artefacts] ending with Dr. Carmack sending his transmission and the Door to the room bashed in. The shots at the end would be slightly re-arranged since i felt they lingered on the open door a bit too long and all the shots of Carmack turning around got a bit much. After the door is punched in we see him stare at the opening in horror and then we quickly pull back. Cutting to the latter part of the original “universal” sequence, but in reverse.

Act I : Knee deep in the dead.

This part is basically the marines heading to Mars and discovering just what is going on.

Act II : Thy flesh consumed

This is literally the part where all hell breaks loose. Most of the main characters are killed off during act two.

Act III : Inferno

The third act would pick up with Reaper waking alone after Sam injected him with C24. Pretty much from that point up to the two of them riding the Lift to the surface. Fade to white.

The outro idea that I'm tinkering with is to have “THE END” show up onscreen at this point but then blasted to bits by simulated gunfire, Like in the original game. This would be followed by a composition shot of the doors of the surface lift opening [from earlier in the film.] and footage of zombies roaming about.

This all depends on how well I can get this to look.

I'm also looking at other ideas explered in Planet terror like the film image becoming more and more distressed as something bad is about to hapen, usually the death of a main character.

I've got plenty of other ideas but that's mainly the flow I'm aiming for.
