The Matrix: Noir Edition (obsolete thread - see info for new project)
Time

Finally, there are a few elements within the simulated world that would have to remain in colour, as was done in Sin City and Schindler's List. The most obvious ones are the red and blue pills and the woman in red, whose colours are referred to in dialogue and which it would be appropriate to show. The computer displays I'm tossing up about. I want to have both the computer displays in the Matrix and the Matrix feed in the real world either both green or both white. Suggestions for this or other elements that you think should be coloured are welcome.

I think the matrix code should always be seen as green. The concern really is moving between the real world and the simulated world...For example when Morpheus offers to show neo what the Matrix is we see a close up of Neo's face as they 'plug him in' then some fiddling about then we cut back to a close up of his face only to see that we are looking at him in the matrix, as the camera pulls back.

Cutting between colour and B/W might ruin the 'suprise' element of the shot. It might be best to quickly fade the colour from the shot as the camera puls back.

And in terms of other computer displays, they should probably be B/W - since what they are showing is the simulated world - No computer inside the matrix would show anything of the 'real world' - which is in colour.

There probably shouldn't be any colour at all until the red pill /  blue pill scene. Then you could slowly introduce colours [woman in the red dress et al] until eventually Neo sees the matrix in green code.

Also interesting in that Neo ingests the red pill only to wake up seeing nothing but red at first. and then a world of colour. Keeps the 'alice in wonderland' in play :) "one pill to make you coloured..."

George's Unaltered Prequel trilogy
Time

You mean the color grading of the prequels should match the oot, and the original trilogies color should not have been fucked with to match the prequels as was done in 2004.  That is quite a revelation coming from someone like you Johhny.  I thought you loved lucas special editions, prequels and clone wars and that good old georgie could do no wrong in your eyes.

yes, that is kind of what I meant* but your assumptions are WAY off base. You don't know me, you know nothing about me and i've said nothing to give people that impression [PT gusher]. Maybe you should spend a little more time reading the comments than ranting, hmm?

I don't understand why you are intent to go down this road when we are in agreement.

* to a degree - the colours in the OT were never done right as far as i can tell.

Idea: Heroes TV Series to Films

Hiro, Peter and Claire are the two biggest examples of this.

Where'd you learn to count? ;)

It's not just Hiro and Peter...Daphne, Arthur and Sylar are all characters who would be able to time travel, And there are probably others. I do get what you mean though, They did start tying things back in towards the end there but they could take it a lot further.

Back in the beginning I got annoyed with Mohinder since he was constantly shifting back and forth. Now, it seems almost every character is guilty of this. This Villains finale tried to make this seem legitimate by giving us the 'dual' theme and the notion that everyone has the ability to be either a Hero or a Villain....

yeah I know i'm cutting out the whole Sylar thinking the Pettreli's are his parents thing.

Would that mean cutting out Sylars "oooh, cake!" line?

Yeah, Volume 2 isn't really a story worth telling anymore, They were only about to really begin when it ended. the story arc was going to be about the virus outbreak.

You could cull certain things to add elsewhere, just mind continuity on certain things like Peter's hair.

Volume 3 while entertaining was still a bit sloppy in the story telling. It probably would be best to choose a particular plot thread and cut awa ywhatever doesn't relate.

Abrams is Destroying Star Trek like Lucas has Destroyed Star Wars
Time

So...will the movie result in the USS Kelvin NOT being destroyed? If they don't save the Kelvin and restore the timeline [Trek Universe A] then there's not much point to it all. But then IF they DO then it's really not a story worth telling cuz whether you are involved with the events of the film or not, the outcome is the Same.

I'll stop before I go cross-eyed.

<strong>The Clone Wars</strong> (2008 animated tv series) - a general discussion thread
Time

Maybe it sounds too much like sg-1 to you Johnny because it is the same composer Kevin Kiner.

Yes I am aware of this, It was you not me who called him Kevin Kerner, repeatedly ;)

There were just several points where it sounded distinctly like Stargate. I am not bashing the series music in general, usually it's fine.

He cannot even get the Main Theme by John Williams right.

If you don't like the show then why would you want them to use JW's music in it?

hmm, pretty mixed bag this week

High points -

Gunray making jokes about irony and then Gree chastising another for betraying his Jedi allies...

A little creativity to the duels rather than pure saber twirling.

low points -

I expected from the start that the senate troopers would betray the others.

The music sounded far too much like stargate.

The voice acting on Luminara

Looks like next week is finally what i was looking forward to in early previews.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Edit Suggestions
Time

I noticed that some people were discussing gunshot sound effects earlier.

I probably shouldn't do this or talk about this in an open forum, but I'm in a unique position here at school where I have access to the sound libraries of many of the major Hollywood studios (including Lucasfilm, though for some reason that only includes things like jungle sound effects).

So, until December 13th (when the semester ends and my access expires), if anyone has any requests for specific sound effects, I'll check out the library, see what I can find, and post them on Rapidshare.

Also, since I'm starting Editing 1 next semester, I *may* have access to the sound libraries next semester as well, but I am NOT SURE if that's the case.  If so, I'll let you guys know.

If anyone has requests for sound effects, please PM me - I'd like to keep this hush-hush so I don't get kicked out of film school and ruin my future career in the process.  But I'd love to help you guys out, too.

And remember, after December 13th, I won't be able to access this again, unless Editing 1 allows us to do so (in which case I'll be able to get effects again at the beginning of February).

Got access to a nice clean recording of a wilhelm scream?

:)

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

now considering that each SD is one mile, that makes the Executor a whopping 12 miles long!  Could you imagine being in the nose and having an important message for Vader?  You know, I'm surprised Mel Brooks didn't do something like that in SPACEBALLS....

They did make fun of the size of the ship in SPACEBALLS - several times. [I'm not sure if you were serious]

Adywan.  I just had ANH:R playing in the background and as the credits were playing I noticed, for the first time, the few measures from Battle of the Heroes that you slipped in before The Throne Room plays.  Very subtle and seamless.  You sly devil : P.

You mean like in the ROTS end credit music?

The modified "Needa shuttle" scene looks pretty decent...

WHY?  SO ALL OF YOU NAYSAYERS WILL SHUT THE FUCK UP.

C'mon Dayv, that wont happen.

I hope it's good but i'm totally on the fence on this one. Are we the only ones willing to adopt a 'wait and see' attitude? I just hope they have an 'in universe' explanation for why the ship looks so different.

YOU CAN COMPLAIN ALL YOU WANT ONCE YOU SEE THE MOVIE.

Aww, Dayv! - that's like inviting a vampire into your home.
