Skins - season 5 episode 1.

Season 4 just got depressing [i'm talking 'virgin suicides' levels of depressing.] but it's good to see that with a fresh start it's back to being fun.

Also had a look at the US version of the show out of curiosity - it was complete rubbish, I hope it gets cancelled soon. What they should have done is a US spin off but it's a complete reboot with the same basic characters - except the gay guy is now a hot cheerleader. it's just painful [like dental surgery during a kenny G concert.]

Reuben Sammich with potato chips (American chips, not Brit chips)

Wasn't sure what that was by the name so I googled it. Sounds tasty indeed. Might have to have a go at making one, maybe on the weekend.

Was yours home made or store bought?

Do people like remakes and reboots here, or hate them ?
Time

I don't really have strong feelings on remakes one way or the other. They're either as good or better than the original; 3:10 To Yuma, Ocean's 11, Batman Begins, Casino Royale*, Star Trek09, True Grit - or they're bad;Planet Of The Apes, Willy Wonka.

So, they are either good...or they are done by Tim Burton? ;)

It's my understanding that films like True Grit attempt to  better present the original source - usually a novel, than previous attempts.

Movies like casino Royale and Star Trek generally attempt to bling in a new audience and in both cases they succeeded.

I saw Star Trek [09] with some friends who all have wildly different tastes and some who had never been interested on Star Trek. We all walked away satisfied and entertained.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

I could be persuaded...

I hate you guys [005 et al] for being in agreeable time zones.

So I finally got my hands on the infamous Alpha leak of Doom 3 from back in [circa] '02 - I figure it's been long enough and i've purchased Doom 3 at least twice now [in different formats].

It certainly is interesting, A possibly different [more action focused] direction than the game we ended up with.

It has a pretty cool feel to it and it does feel different to the full game - There isn't really much to play through and certain enemies like zombies don't really do much - although they do get up again and continue pursuing you after you plug them full of bullets.

One thing that was interesting / different is that the enemies speak actual [gutteral] english, commando zombies say things like "I smell fear".

Apparently this is from when Trent Reznor was still on the project and the game structure seems to back that up - there are audio folders labelled as 'nin' and such. I actually prefer some of the sounds here as some stuff in the full game gets annoying when you hear it over and over. Weapons sound more 'meaty' for example.

All in all, an interesting play-through and I personally would have preferred a game in this style with the polish of the final game, rather than the attempted scare-fest we did get.

You could make a movie about a bunch of people in a room and depending on how you write direct and film it it could potentially be a very interesting and entertaining film.

that was done, and it is a very interesting and entertaining film.

also CUBE

7 complete strangers of widely varying personality characteristics are involuntarily placed in an endless kafkaesque maze containing deadly traps.

- while it wasn't all set in the same room, it was all shot in the same room.
