Film grain is not your enemy.
Time
What's wrong with colorizing black and white films? Have you seen Night of the Living Dead in color? It's fantastic. Like they actually filmed it that way. I honestly can't wait until they get around to doing Psycho. I suppose we just have different tastes. When I go to see (for example) the Star Wars movies, I expect to see two people swinging bright, glowing blades at each other, not two people swinging bright, glowing blades at each other behind a thin screen of filth. I say remove all the grain, be it from the negative or wherever. Grain, unless intentionally inserted, is an imperfection in the film-making process. Any engineer would tell you that the best way to improve a process is to remove its imperfections. All the cinematographers in the world can deny this, but they'll just look stupid. Bright colors and the absence of grain may not be "artistic," but they're cleaner, and to the normal movie-goer, that makes a much better impression.

I think losing a little detail is worth it if it means seeing absolutely nothing but the action on the film (unless, of course, the grain is part of the movie's "style"). That's what was so fantastic about the PT, RotS in particular: That mother was clean as a whistle. It looked like there was literally nothing between you and the actors. Normally you need cheap red and blue glasses to do that. So yes, grain is, and will forever remain, my enemy.

Besides, the more sophisticated grain-removal technology (like they used for the OT DVDs) results in virtually no loss of detail at all. Then again, that's because ILM spent a Hell of a lot of money on those films, but the process will cheapen over the years.

Because when something is illegal, no one determined enough to get it could ever find it, right? The guy was ready to go in there and make a Rorschach out of the entire student body, for Christ's sake. You don't think he's willing to break a stupid gun law by snatching something even more dangerous off the black market? If there's one thing Prohibition has taught this country, it's that if someone wants something bad enough, they'll find ways to get it. The most an absolute ban on guns would have done is buy the victims at Virginia Tech the week or two it took for him to find a piece. Then they'd be just as dead as they are now. Here's a word from the wise, boy: killers break the law. These psychos are hardly reason enough to take away everyone's right to self defense.

Info: Freddy's Nightmares - The NoES TV series... no torrents?
Time
They're available for $45 if you PM a certain user at Nightmare on Elm Street Films' website forum (do a Google search). I'm going to ask for the seven NoES films for Easter, so I might ask for this set, as well (altogether, I'll pay less for both the series and the movies than I did for all the Halloween films). If no one else has done it by then, I will rip the DVD contents (in full quality, but just the episodes so as to keep the size down as low as possible) and torrent the series. I suppose it's my turn to take one for the team, especially after the gracious help I've received in my topic on alternate Halloween cuts.

Very odd. Considering they have a rather expensive ($65 and it’s spread over 15 discs?!) fan-made DVD set for sale, you’d think someone would have torrented the entire series so as to avoid others having to make such an expensive purchase (considering it’s 90% bootlegs). But no such luck. There’s one or two episodes up for download, but even their torrents are all but dead. Any diehard Freddy fans here have the boxset? If so, would it be out of the question to upload it somewhere? I understand 15 discs is a big haul, but you could do what most uploaders do and shrink the videos down to VCD size (which would come out to 10 GB instead of 66; though I’d brave the larger download if someone’s crazy enough to put it up). Or I could cough up the dough for it and stop whining.

Nah.

TV Cut (fullframe)

And also a fifth disc of random promotional material and behind-the-scenes stuff. I've accumulated way too many DVDs.

ReverendBeastly, I could kiss you! I could also give up all my worldly possessions and live in a monastery, but I'm not going to do that, either. I've got the Producer's Cut and I don't care about the TV Cut or the extras, but I would be eternally grateful if you could upload the Rough Cut and the Director's Cut. For such a mediocre sequel, it's insane how many versions of it exist (FIVE?!).

Oh, and grissom, a torrent entitled "Halloween II: The Ultimate Cut" has been posted to The Pirate Bay. Search for it (direct linking is a no-no). It may not register that I'm seeding, yet, but trust me, I am. Well, if those who have come forward are willing to upload, that's three out of five in the bag already.

Just out of curiosity, what are the differences between the theatrical and "ultimate" cuts of H2? Is it a really significant edit?

It's actually a bit of an oddity. It takes the footage from the VHS release of H2, then, when there are alternate shots from a VHS recording of the TV version, it shows BOTH, one following the other. If you want a coherent, non-redundant film, you have to edit out your pick of the alternate shots by yourself. Inconvenient to the viewer, but excellent for the editor, who has all the material in a single video file. Or at least, it WOULD be great for the editor, if the quality were less than horrendous. This is a pure VHS splice (possibly pasted together the old-fashioned way, but you'd need to ask Rikter about that), and the quality is sub-par by 2008 standards. As far as plot significance, there isn't all that much (nothing like the new scenes for the original installment, which actually expand a bit more on Michael's situation and the like). You find out the "scalpel lift" nurse may have survived her stint as Michael's barbell, and there are tons of alternate takes and lines of dubbed dialog, but that's about it.

I don't want to get off-topic slightly, but would it be possible to compile a list here of all the different cuts that are available for each film (besides the theatrical cuts I mean). I'm trying to track down all of these too and it would be a great help.

That would be helpful. Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough to compile a comprehensive list. Any fellow 'Weenies here who know what they're talking about?

I'm generally ignoring fullscreen versions (since I'll be making widescreen fan-edits), so the TV version won't really be necessary. I only got the Ultimate Cut of H2 (which is fullscreen) because the extra footage has never been presented in widescreen before. However, I would really appreciate it if you would upload The Revenge of Laurie Strode to a torrent or Rapidshare (whichever would be easiest for you). No pressure or anything, though.

Help: looking for... alternate Halloween series cuts...

This is a tall order, but in case we have a Michael Myers bootleg collector out there (or simply a group of people that collectively have everything), I was wondering if someone could upload a torrent (something accessible to all and relatively longlasting, as opposed to newsgroups) of some of the alternate cuts of the Halloween movies. I would seed all of them, of course. I’ve already gotten my hands on the Ultimate Cut of Halloween II (however crappy the quality) and the superb DVD/bootleg hybrid of the Curse of Michael Myers Producer’s Cut, but there’s some more goodies out there that aren’t readily available for free. These are:

Halloween 666: The Origin of Michael Myers “Rough Cut” - [an unfinished print of the CoMM Producer’s Cut, with temp music and other differences]
Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers “Director’s Cut” - [a workprint of the CoMM Theatrical Cut, with more gore and stuff like that]
Halloween 7: The Revenge of Laurie Strode - [a workprint of H2O with extra footage and different music]
Halloween 8 - [a workprint of Resurrection with tons of alternate scenes]
Halloween 8: The Homecoming - [the screener of Resurrection with some alternate scenes]

Again, this is asking a lot, but if any of you can find it in your hearts to help me, it would be greatly appreciated (and again, this wouldn’t be “hit and run”; I WILL SEED).

EDIT: Alternatively, Rapidshare could work, as well. It may be slower to the downloader (assuming one doesn’t have a premium account), but it’s much easier on the uploader, as no seeding is required. This is actually how I got both the H2 Ultimate Cut and the H6 Producer’s Cut.

A present from me to fellow MST3K fans everywhere. If you don't like fanfiction, you've never read it this:

I recently discovered this, and let me tell you: it's hours upon hours of fall-out-of-your-chair laughs. Few of them are related, story-wise, so feel free to skip around until you find something you like.

Extracting clips from Episode III: The Video Game... *NEW QUESTION*
Time
Well, due to the lack of replies, I tried to see if any of the PS2/GC/XBOX emulators could run it well enough for me to capture it on screen. Not only were the emulators nowhere near that advanced, but all the good screen capture utilities cost money . Then, I realized I actually had the PS2 version of the game the whole time. I felt like an idiot. However, now I have a new problem. The vast majority (all but a measly 19,550 KB) of the data in the disc is on two .PK2 files. I think it's safe to say that the video files are somewhere in the paks. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to open them. Any ideas on exploring them? I remember having to explore a similar file to get the Lost Scenes from BTM, but it was a totally different animal (I know; I tried the old program ). A quick Google search turned up nothing.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

It will never sync up correctly with the KCCI version (too bad, since that's the best one) because of the commercials and the bizarre opening crawl*. To sync it up with the Google mp4 is very easy though. The movie commentary begins 2 minutes and 36 seconds into the RiffTrax file. Just use Womble to offset the beginning of the video and export it. Hell, I watched the movie with the commentary in Womble's preview window. No burning required! Not that you could ever put it up here, of course.

*Well, I suppose you could edit out the commercial portions of the RiffTrax files (and any references to them) and try to line it up with the KCCI version, but editing out just the right number of frames with the fade-ins and fade-outs to keep it perfectly in sync will be a bitch. On a side note, where the Hell did that Godawful title crawl come from? Please tell me it was fan made.
