Further proof GL has lost his mind... Clone Wars
Time
I agree about the timeline between ANH and ESB. ESPECIALLY the first six months. The amount of adventures featured in that short amount of time is absolutely ludicrous (you could even argue that it's impossible). Not to mention we have duplications of events that are paved over with the stupidest retcons in history.

There are two contradictory stories detailing the evacuation of Yavin IV, so what's the solution? The Alliance cleared out, waited for the Empire to finish searching the area, and then CAME BACK TO YAVIN IV. WITHIN SIX MONTHS. There's also two accounts of Luke's first meeting with Boba Fett. The solution? When Luke met Boba in the Holiday Special, the colors of his suit are different enough so that he DOESN'T RECOGNIZE HIM THE SECOND TIME AROUND. Congrats, Luke. You're a moron. And again, this is within SIX MONTHS.

I'll take the Clone Wars (which is certainly not free of its own continuity blunders, thanks mostly to that damned cartoon) any day.

Spike TV ROTJ Summary
Time
On the other hand, how many new viewers could there possibly be? Anyone who hasn't seen the OT probably knows how they end, anyway. Same thing with the Wizard of Oz and Casablanca.

On a side note: the Palpatine=Darth Sidious plot twist is officially obvious. I showed TPM to my 3-year-old sister, and when she saw the hologram of Palpatine in the Queen's chambers, she said "It's Darth Sidious!"

(SPOILER) new "STAR TREK" 2009 spoiler thread (SPOILER)
Time
Well, the DVDs arrived yesterday, but I'm bogged down with homework this weekend, so I can't start up just yet. Anyway, after further research, I've decided to watch them by stardate order (excluding any errors that would screw up the narrative). Using Memory Alpha (the Star Trek wiki) and the posters at TrekBBS, I've worked all the kinks out. I've included indicators on the following list as to whether an episode is part of the original series, the animated series, or the first six films. The order of the episodes I'll use for Kirk's crew is:

The Cage [TOS]

Where No Man Has Gone Before [TOS]
Mudd's Women [TOS]
The Corbomite Maneuver [TOS]
The Man Trap [TOS]

The difference between fanatic Muslims and Christians...

And its not like Christians have a history of tolerance.

Yes, but then again, our major organizations have also managed to move past the totalitarian hate-monger phase. In fact, I'd say we're pretty damn tolerant right now, because we pretty much sit here and tolerate everything. Sure, we make a little noise now and then, but we hardly force our views on people. Actually, it mostly seems like secularists and the politically correct try to force their views on us.

Mother arrested for leaving children "unattended"
Time
Concurred. He obviously came in here to stir shit up. Yeah, straight parents don't care what happens to their kids because they can just make another one. After all, it's not like giving birth is a prolonged and painful experience that a lot of people try to avoid, or anything. And it's not like losing a child can drive straight people to depression, drunkenness, divorce, or even suicide. Yep, no big deal. Just pop another bun in the oven and it's good as new.

I would not leave any of my kids alone in the car for any reason. Heterosexual parents do this stuff all the time becauase they don't appreciate there children. It's so easy for them to make kids that they figure that they will just make a new one if something happens. Fruits like me, however, have to go through years of red tape for each child, so we are really protective of our kids. I guess what I'm trying to say is that gay parents are vastly superior to straight parents. Before you religious weirdos go off on me for being gay and having kids, let me assure you that I have not made any of them gay. They are all straight as an arrow, and one of them even hates homos.

I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. You are ignorant and intolerant. I would think an "oppressed" individual would know better.

Should there be a sequel to Manos: The Hands of Fate?
Time
It's happening whether I'm encouraging it or not. The least we could do is get something memorable out of it. Besides, I rather liked seeing John McClane in action again, and TMNT was a trip back to my childhood (if only it had Shredder and Crang).

Oh, and Joel Schumacher would demand too high a budget. We're going for so bad it's good, not so bad it's worse.

Should there be a sequel to Manos: The Hands of Fate?
Time
Yes, I know the movie was Godawful, but it's developed such a cult following (thanks in no small part to MST3K) that even a musical stage show has been produced. It's been 42 years since it premiered, and since really belated sequels have been a theme as of late (Predator [in the AvP movies], Rocky, Rambo, Bambi, Cinderella, TMNT, etc.), I could almost see it succeeding in a limited theatrical release or a DTV with some smart marketing. They could even make the DVD a special edition with the first film (both original and MSTed version), the second film (with an optional RiffTrax commentary), and the soundtrack to the musical (a la NotLD 30th Anniversary).

Of course, it would have to be ultra-low budget (thus preserving the feel of the original and increasing studio appeal). I would suggest no higher than $300,000. Get a bunch of nobody actors who'll work for peanuts. Call in some favors (Hell, call in some fans). The surviving cast can even make cameos (it's not like they're busy with other projects). It would take, what, six months from pre- to post-production once the light is green? They even have justification (a rarity): the Master wasn't defeated, Mike now serves as the new Torgo (who may not even be dead), and "The End" was displayed with a frickin' question mark. I just think the time is right for some good, obscure cheese to make a comeback.

(SPOILER) new "STAR TREK" 2009 spoiler thread (SPOILER)
Time
The timeline I'm using is located here:

http://www.thewellers.com/startrek/enttmln.htm

I considered starting with Enterprise and doing a true chronological order, but I hear that that's the least loved of the saga and may put me off. Oh, and don't worry about me buying the whole thing at once. I'm not that stupid. I'll be buying these one season/movie at a time, so I can quit whenever. I'll be breaking the series up into subsets, and the episodes of each subset will be viewed in chronological order. The subsets are as follows:

The Original Series + The Animated Series + Movies 1-6
The Next Generation + Movies 7-10
Deep Space Nine
Voyager
Enterprise

So, essentially, I'm breaking it down by crew.

What are all the given figures for hyperdrive speed?
Time
I'm sorry by Warp 9 is much faster than 9c. According to the formula the TNG scriptwriters used:

v=[wf]^(10/3)*c

Meaning the speed of a starship is the cubic root of the warp factor raised to the tenth power multiplied by the speed of light. At Warp 9, this comes out to 729c[cbrt(9)], or about 1,516 times the speed of light.

According to the formula the TOS scriptwriters used:

v=[wf]^3*c

Meaning the speed of a starship is the warp factor cubed and then multiplied by the speed of light. At Warp 9, this comes out to 729 times the speed of light. Either way, that's much faster than your claim.

(SPOILER) new "STAR TREK" 2009 spoiler thread (SPOILER)
Time
In preparation for this movie (since it may be a reboot, or revitalization, or anything else that means it's not in the same timeline), I am going to start watching the series and movies... all of them. I have a huge wad of cash saved up from tutoring and the like, and a friend of mine can get me great deals, so why not? This is a big thing for me, since I've never seen a full episode of Star Trek (just read about it), and I want to see what its like. I'll be following a hybrid chronological/order of release method, wherein I'll watch each series in the order it was released, but the episodes and movies of each series in chronological order according to a timeline I found on the 'Net. It's going to be a big undertaking, so I'm starting well over a year in advance. Wish me luck!

If any are curious as to my thoughts as I go through the series for the first time (unlikely, but you never know), I'll gladly post my thoughts roughly after each season.

What are all the given figures for hyperdrive speed?
Time
Hello, there! Some pals and I are having the quintessential Start Trek vs. Star Wars argument, and the issue of speed came up. I've since been trying to gather all exact terms for the speed of a ship in hyperspace. I've found three so far, but I was hoping any EU aficionados would be able to complete the list. THIS WILL NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, BECOME AN STVSW THREAD. I am simply here to discover the facts on the Star Wars side. I'll gather the Star Trek measurements on my own. By "exact terms" I mean either an explicitly stated speed, or the exact time given to cover an exact distance. Also note that I'm excluding N-Level Canon sources. The three I've found are*:

1.) 20,000 light-years in 3 hours (58,880,000c) [Bloodlines]
2.) 127 light-years per hour (1,121,664c) [Dark Force Rising]
3.) 350 light-years in 5 days (25,760c) [Heir to the Empire]

*These measurements take into account that a standard day and year in the GFFA are 24 hours and 368 days respectively, as given in the C-Level RPG. For those unfamiliar with the terminology, "c" is the speed of light, or 299,792,458 meters per second.

US Soldier Throws Puppy Off Cliff!
Time
I'm not sure it's real. The puppy never moves (not even that cute little back-and-forth stare they do when they don't understand what's going on) and most importantly, it doesn't shake. I've held my fair share of puppies, and the one thing they all have in common is that, if they're afraid of you, they shiver. I doubt this puppy knew them that well if they were so quick to toss it off a cliff. The bark sounds extremely preprocessed, and it flips in a very unnatural way. It doesn't flail or kick like most animals would. I just stays in that same position as it rotates in midair. I may very well be wrong, but for the meantime, I'm calling bullshit.

How to eliminate the overscan on my Vizio VX32L?
Time
Damn it! My computer is in such an awkward position that hooking it up to the TV will be almost impossible (you'd have to see the layout of my room to understand). However, my PC doesn't seem to have a 1366x768 mode*, anyway, and I'm not sure how to adjust the PAR on my computer. I honestly don't see why it would kill them to make disabling the overscan an option on the normal user menu. I sent an e-mail to Vizio's tech support to see if they can tell me how to open the service menu. I haven't received a response, yet.

*I just did the math. Wouldn't 1365x768 be closer to the 16:9 aspect ratio of the TV? Just a little nitpick.

How to eliminate the overscan on my Vizio VX32L?
Time
I first noticed that my HDTV was cutting off portions of my DVDs' picture when I watched a 1.85:1 movie and was unable to locate the thin black lines that should be at the top and bottom of the screen. A little research showed that this was the result of something called "overscan". I'm anal retentive about seeing the whole picture, so I was wondering how to disable this overscan. A person at the AVS Forum suggested accessing the service (or factory) menu for an answer, but I have only located a single site with instructions on how to do this, and their methods do not give me access to the menu. Does anyone here happen to know how to access the service menu for a Vizio VX32L, and, if so, what to adjust to eliminate overscan? I understand the controls are highly sensitive, so I don't want to change something unless I know what it does.

Thanks in advance!

Star Wars is Evil
Time
And it figures they say "according to Christians" in the title. As if Christianity was this big, robotic mass of people who all have the same (radical) ideals. And people have the nerve to say we're the only religion not persecuted. People mock us and our so-called "backward ways" publicly and they call it freedom of speech. We criticize other mainstream groups and people call us intolerant. Sorry to go off on that little rant, but it really sickens me.

How many of those lines would appear on your 16:9 TV ? I'm not sure that specific point is the deal breaker for 'everyone' (since you are speaking for all of us).

I'm confused. You suggest further cropping but would not give up the original framing anyway. Aren't you simply saying that you would prefer the (original) 364 lines in case #2?

What I meant was, if it was up to me, I wouldn't crop it at all, but if you're going to, you'll appease more people by making it fill the entire screen. Otherwise, it's just a pointless zoom.
