Info: Any Godzilla fans out there?

I did the restoration of the Japanese version of KING KONG VS. GODZILLA and the fanedit bilingual edition of MONSTER ZERO. And yes, others have done Godzilla restorations and stuff, but nothing really large-scale, like what you guys have been doing here at originaltrilogy. I would love to restore the English versions of all the Toho sci-fi and monster movies with the help of folks on here.

I've got your King Kong vs. Godzilla restoration and it does look great.  I haven't come across the Monster Zero edit yet.  It would be nice to see these older films getting good treatment to help keep the charm they were created with.

Did you find a way round the Macrovision thing? Did The Phantom Menace defeat your new set up?

Edit: I just realized in my haste I completely blanked the original topic. apologies. if you are tackling this set I was eager to find out if you managed to tame the macrovision thing that seemed to have killed the PM tape or were you able to get round it

Don't worry about it!

My setup chews right through TPM's Macrovision. The image is crisp and stable; almost as good as a DVD!

If you can get that crisp of an image I'd love a copy for future projects.  My TMP VHS had some play in them so I'd love something solid.

Cheers!!!!

The encryption was never cracked AFAIK. If you can get the DTS-6D to playback the discs without film, and record the output somehow (ideally through SPDIF?), that would be the way to do it.

BTW that processor has been re-listed on eBay starting at $75 this time.

I do know that the DTS.exe program for each disc seems exclusive to each title.  When I look at the cfg for TPM there is a choice for playing the disc without the film…the one for ROTS does not give that choice.  I also read that cryptoloop for Linux had a weakness in it’s implementation that can allow access but since I know nothing of Linux I would not know how to start.  The ROTS discs have cryptoloop on them.  Linux changed their stuff around after it went public.  I know there are outside sources working on such things.

The processor at that price might yield better results.

Anyone have the extra $$ to purchase the one on eBay who’d be willing to help the cause?

Kind of funny that George pretty much had tried to not give Gary any credit or Marcia either and they have pretty much been erased from "official GL Star Wars history"  except for the mentions in the Rinzler books.

Or Gary appearing in that fluff documentary that was on the 2004 bonus disc.

Is he even in the archival commentary tracks on the blu ray?  I don't own it so i cannot comment.

I mentioned this a ways back in another thread.  After everything I've read it seemed like every incarnation has erased things these people had a hand in for the original trilogy.  Giving them less residuals each time......probably.  I bet George still misses Marcia....deep down.

:)

The DTS-6 can be made to play discs without film.  If you wanted to record from it, you'd need a proprietary analog cable (DB25) and a 5 channel recording mechanism.  I really don't think it'd be worth doing things that way.

If the ROTS discs contain the encrypted AUE files, instead of the older AUD files, then the "analogue hole" method is the only way.

They do contain the .AUE files....and I suspect that AOTC might as well.

I think the encryption was introduced in 2004. AOTC is probably OK.

I'm having the damnedest time trying to figure out how to get thru the .aue files.  I'm not a coder nor do I know anything about de-compiling and all that jazz.  I've been researching everywhere I can and just when I think I got a lead I'm so damned confused that I smack my head on the desk until the pain goes away.....LOL.

When the audio is complete it will see an upload.  I don't have an exact time frame at this moment as we're still not finished with our current project but I will keep you all appraised of the details as I get them.

All of these projects going on have connections to others so we want to make sure they are the best they can be for everyone.

IIRC, you would still need the corresponding film print for the discs to play.

Actually, this is not entirely true.  I have collected some educational software in an attempt to better understand the audio for ROTS and it would seem that if you had the proper cables to hook up you could run things through a pc.  Of course since my budget is limited at this point & I don't have the coding knowledge or ability it would be better in the hands of an experienced sound engineer that would be willing to help us out.

All hypothetical, of course.....  ;)

Well, my guess is that it will end up DTS-HD or DTS-MA.  I'm sure ElDonante will be using White Paper specifications to process these.

I am getting ready to get the files rar'd up so they can go to borisanddoris for first stage processing before moving on.

ElDonante is currently working on the TPM audio and I know he's got a bit of a tight schedule with work.

I'm really excited and glad that these are being done.  It will require some patience from folks due to the work & time involved to do them.....so that everyone can enjoy them.

Here's a thought.....

Since the "5 Star" DVD's of the SE Trilogy are supposed to have DTS...maybe what they contain is the "core" DTS tracks...hence, their smaller size.  Is there any way to confirm this by looking at just that audio aspect of them?

I'd gladly rip my DTS audio from them...with the proper instruction on how to do so of course, if it would be a starting point........
