Harmy's STAR WARS Respecialized Edition '97 - AVCHD and MKV Released

John213a, Harmy still projects to do them. He just needs someone to take care of the audio part, and the audios in question are the dts theatrical tracks extracted from the actual dts CD-Roms.

I actually synched-up the theatrical DTS for the trilogy almost two years ago, but never released them because there was no release-appropriate video source to go with them, plus no one seemed to be too interested in them at the time. I have already PM'ed Harmy offering them to him should he want to use them.

You haven't sent these my way have you?

THE PHANTOM MENACE - THEATRICAL HD Topper's Version (Released)

Well, in terms of video quality, the Blu-Ray rip I have is far superior to what people were referring to as the supposed HDTV rip in this thread, but I am not really sure if it's rather the DVD than the HDTV rip:

Can anyone confirm what I have now? I cannot find screencaps to compare to.

Thanks

The bluray is not as superior as you might think. The bluray's detail is washed out by DVNR.

Which version is better for the OT? Laserdisc or the limited edition 2006 2 disc dvd (GOUT)?

Posting is easy. Maintaining a carefully crafted best of list with links, dates, and relevant titles, is not.

You created a thread encouraging people to start bumping old threads, I don't think maintenance is the problem, LOL.

My point was .... your wit obviously enjoys the attention so as for the maintenance comment, I ain't buying it, LOL.

I wish I could do a HD version with the corrections included.

I just don't know anything about the newer ripping methods, video codecs, and how they work with Windows 7. My SLV version was done on an old Windows XP computer.

FF

If you want I can provide you with the assets I'm using; I have all the non-theatrical SD footage ripped, de-interlaced, upscaled, and denoised in 422 ProRes (I still need to remove all the dirt from the footage); In addition to your analog track I'm in the process of securing a bit-perfect rip of another SLV LD that had a PCM track (it was a Japanese disc); and I have the HDTV broadcast, Blu-Ray, and both trailers (which contain some extra shots, such as the "smirk" from Chapel) in 175X DNxHD.

This should be enough to reconstruct your edit using any popular NLE software, as well as the latest Davinci Resolve which has some editing functionality.

WOW! You know I am seriously considering doing this. It would have to be started after the New Year holiday. I would start sometime in January, and hope for it to be finished by Easter. How does that sound?

FF

I think it sounds great.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

^^^^^

That isn't concept art or a set shot. Had there been pictures here of the "actual movie" or actual video from completed sequences in bits and pieces, then yeah, I could see the "spoiler" alert warning being valid.

In the Agents of SHIELD thread people were discussing what had actually gone on in an episode that some of us hadn't seen yet, THAT is a spoiler. Here you all are discussing possibilities in relation to set shots, concept art, and such.

Since none of us have seen the movie because it's not out yet I'd consider what's going around as more teaser material than spoiler.

I meant nothing mean by sharing my point of view on the subject.

We see it differently, that's all.

Pictures are cool to see. They don't spoil anything for me since they are concept art and some set shots. It gives me an idea of the feel of what is to come which I look forward to but it doesn't tell me how the movie ends or what everyone's motivations are.

I want it to be a surprise so discussion from me on the topic is really the last thing on my mind.

It's all good.

How are there spoilers for a movie that hasn't even finished production yet and could change before final release?

LOL

All the leaked set photos and such aren't spoilers? That there are updated Stormtrooper costumes is a spoiler in my book.

To me the term "spoiler" has more to do with the plot of the movie and all it's revelations, not pictures from the set.

I was having some unexpected difficulty getting the '97 DTS to sound correct, but I think I've pretty much nailed the calibration now. Part of the problem was my own mistake in setting up the signal flow, so once I realized the error, things went much more smoothly. I'll do a final listening test to make sure everything is in order, and then I'll send it over as a 5.1 DTS-HD MA.

Come to think of it, it would probably be a good idea to verify the synch before committing to it fully. Althor, if you can provide me with a Quicktime file of your video, I'll bring it in to my Pro Tools session and make sure it's all lined up at the reel changes. I don't need anything fancy in terms of pixel resolution or bitrate—a small standard definition file will do the trick. It just needs to have a frame rate of 23.976 since I've already converted the audio to play at this speed.

Would you consider doing the audio for all 6 films? It would be nice for everyone who wants it to have a complete set of all 6 5.1 DTS-HD MA files. Your work is greatly appreciated hairy_hen, greatly.

I agree, a reconstruction would be nice. When I watched the original, it seemed to be deinterlaced with only half of the fields, giving it a jagged look. Also, I think a couple VFX fixes from the DE were left in.

(I'm specifically thinking of the shot of the Enterprise coming out of drydock, where the model's mounting pylon wasn't rotoscoped out in the original composite, and left a black "hole" in the drydock as it passed by. IIRC, FanFiltration's SLV has the DE recomposite where the pylon arm WAS roto'ed out.)

I had hope that this release would have had a v.2. With the advances made and extra sources available I believe there could be a second attempt to make it more dynamic.

I feel like I'm always bringing this up when it comes to TPM purism, but I must point out that there is an error in Adywan's Theatrical Edition that any new source should correct. I wouldn't be surprised if there are other changes no one has caught yet, but this one is now known, though I don't think it was common knowledge at the time Adywan did his work (and still seems to be relatively unknown compared to other changes).

I remember that discussion. I have the widescreen vhs myself and would be happy to offer it up. I wonder if the retail VCD has the same change. I will have to dig mine out and check it.
