DTS audio preservation .... UPDATE 07 May 2015 ... Work In Progress

OK, I read your thread on FanRes, didn't realize you already knew about the 2 cuts, aspect ratios, etc. So you already have a version that could sync up with the cinema DTS; we can shift the topic back towards DTS.

As I asked on FanRes, is there any lead on Twister? That is one of those movies like Jurassic Park and ID4 that was a benchmark for digital sound...

Another one: Speed. Wasn't sure if that had DTS in theaters, it's not on the posters, but I found a Los Angeles Times article from 1994 that mentions that it would be going out in both Dolby Digital and DTS.

I have sent feelers out on these to some contacts.  I am awaiting a reply.

You'd think the rare footage would be the selling point. 15 minutes of fame non transferable to new owner. ;)

Hopefully, Adywan will weigh in on whether this is worth securing at this point.

I figured if it wasn't they wouldn't have included that blurb in the ad ya know.  It's always the same with this stuff but it's only worth such a price if there is someone willing to pay it.

And apparently at least one person is in for $850.

Rare discs usually do.

discovered in October 2013 and made headlines around the world with outlets such as CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, BBC and hundreds more!

We were even interviewed by TV and radio as the story went viral and our Facebook page has gained over 42,000 fans as we shared information about this remarkable discovery.

^^^^^^^

This will be the selling point from this point forward making it's final price a bit inflated unfortunately even considering it's already been capped at least once by folks we know.

Info: Re-mixed audio tracks on video releases

I have converted ac3 & DTS tracks to WAV, Flac, Ogg Vorbis, & even MP3 & It strips  it of all the Dialnorm & DRC & brings it back to its master settings.

I have used Handbrake & DVD audio extractor/ripper & it does the job well.

Hold on to your older DVD's many of them include the original mixes of the films.

here is an example of one i did for the Movie Poltergeist 2: The Other Side. here is the link: http://www.packupload.com/QLQVATPMD50

Here is another one, Titan A.E. in Flac from the DVD 2.0 Pro Logic file:

http://www.packupload.com/P2RKGCM63AO

it is 499mb, so its pretty large

I converted the Poltergeist II AC3 2.0 Pro logic track to Flac & it sounds phenomenal! If any of you have the LD version compare my rip to the LD & I guarantee that it will sound nearly Identical.

I have done this with about 10 movies & they sound amazing.

Find the 1993 unaltered Star Wars Trilogy DVD's released in 2006 & convert The Pro Logic AC3 files to Flac using DVD Audio Extractor. You will be blown away by the dynamics, trust me!

remember to set the appropriate channels such as 6 channels for 5.1 content, & 2 channels for Mono & Stereo soundtracks when you rip.

you wont be disappointed once you try it

May I ask if DVD Audio Extractor was meant to act this way for a particular reason.  I never knew it stripped the DialNorm & DRC when encoding to FLAC or WAV.

Question about the 1997 special edition of ESB

If the '97 wampa had been digital, it would have been '97 CGI Jabba level of bad.

Instead, it's merely 'meh'.  It doesn't need to be there, and it also looks nothing like the one from the original version, which creates an irritating visual discontinuity; but overall it's more of a nuisance than something that actually ruins the film.

Of greater concern is the fact that the sound editing done to accommodate the change was very sloppy, resulting in the sound effects going out of synch with the picture.  You can hear Luke cutting himself out of the ice before he is actually seen to do so, and his lightsaber is heard to deactivate even while it obviously remains lit onscreen.

I completely agree, I grew up with only the 2004 dvds and always had problems with the visual difference and audio errors. Is it possible that only the theatrical re-release of the SE had this and not the laserdisc/vhs versions?

Considering George Lucas made a point of mentioning the amount of money it would cost to restore the OT, and that being the reason for him not doing it, outside of the fact he says they no longer exist, ............ no.

I might be interested in the disc, but not if they're going to sell it outside a "safe" environment like Ebay.

You are bidding on a one of a kind piece of Star Wars history !

This long lost Return of the Jedi EditDroid Laser Disc with over 30 minutes of unedited raw footage was discovered in October 2013 and made headlines around the world with outlets such as CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, BBC and hundreds more!

We were even interviewed by TV and radio as the story went viral and our Facebook page has gained over 42,000 fans as we shared information about this remarkable discovery.

Unfortunately our circumstances have changed so the Star Wars memorabilia collection that has been so lovingly amassed over the years has to be put up for sale, starting with this unique and valuable collectors item that is the jewel in the crown of my collection. To say that I am devastated is an understatement, I only hope a collector out there can understand how important this item is to Star Wars history.

For those that do not know about the EditDroid system or about the story of this we suggest you checkout www.editdroid.com - This is not the movie that is for sale it is a very rare disc that was used with the EditDroid system back in 1983 / 1984.

Good luck and thank you to all our supporters !

$850 with only 4 bids so far .................................

Good idea to make two versions - more people will be happy!

At which point does one stop?  He's already doing a lot of work just doing it for himself to find others are interested and supportive of his work.  Then others come along and want different versions ..... i.e. xVid, superlenticular full-screen, trippy dippy pan & scan, 2:40:1 .... when does it finally become good enough that everyone is happy?

Not arguing or bitching, just trying to understand why his version needs other versions to make him and those interested in his idea happy.

Dear Jetrell,
I thought to sort the list of the first post in alphabetical order, to be more readable; plus, I replaced (Found)(Sorted) with (Sync'ed), because I think sync'ed (syncronized/syncronised) is more understandable than sorted, and removed found as it's obvious that if it's sync'ed, it's found! ;) hope this could be of some help!

A question: could Battlefield Earth (2000) DTS Cinema discs be found somewhere?

It was of great help Andrea, thank you.  I also added some that were missing but are in my possession.

As for Battlefield Earth, I don't have it but I could look around.  Maybe I'll get a hit on it.

I am very happy to be a part of this.  I'm going to contact hairy_hen to see if he'd help with sorting the audio properly so we get the best we can out of the DTS cinema audio.

Thanks to the Commodore for including me in this project.  My only hope is that these are going to stay bluray size for those of us who prefer that kind of presentation.  It's the ONLY way to watch these movies.

Cheers!!!!!

That Disney is going to attempt some kind of half-assed OUT release and accidentally leave SE stuff in.

(They should probably go back to an IP or release print instead of the negative. There are just too many ways to fuck things up by going back to the negative, permanently altered or not.)

That's definitely something I've been worried about.

I'm also terrified of drowning and grasshoppers.

Death by drowning is most certainly a terrifying thought.

^Just more fodder to feed my theory that the humans of the galaxy far, far away are descendants of Terrans.

That, or we're dealing with Trek-styled convergent evolution. Frankly, though, that notion's lame, so I choose not to run with it.

In Green Lantern, that convergent evolution theory is also discussed when Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) finishes up his autopsy on Abin Sur so maybe DC comics is in on the conspiracy.

In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight, let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's Light.
