could solve some of these problems with trolls very quickly.

So who are these trolls and how would you determine them?

For all I know, this this could be a mastermind troll thread for troll textbooks.

I believe, had you chosen to be the actual person you say you are, you would have left Warblers thread alone or put him on ignore so things could quiet down.  You chose neither of those options and you didn't do it by accident.

If you would rise above and do what you are asking others to do instead of getting rid of you I think the issue would not have come as far as it has.  I don't know you personally so I cannot say whether you're the person you say you are or not but from what I know of you here ......  you are not.

For the record, we don't need any other sources or scans from anyone else. We are using our own machines, and doing the restoration to the highest quality and standards that can be reached with our resources.

For those that haven't heard our interview:

Team Negative1

A very cool interview.  Thanks for doing it so the rest of us can get a glimpse in to the inner workings behind the scenes.  Everyone should listen to this.

Please don't go down the MySpleen path! I tried to get 'invited' to MySpleen with no luck so far. I and many others that want theatrical classic starwars on DVD or blu ray want easy access to them. A website dedicated to distributing them via download file so that we can just go to the website and download it to burn to a blank DVD or possibly blank blu ray disks.

I hate the invite system for the MySpleen access to the unaltered starwars 4-6. I honestly don't see the point. We shouldnt have to get invited to a forum. I'm still awaiting my invite to MySpleen. A forum site should have an open registration and open access to the original Star Wars unaltered. Can someone explain WHY the heck we need to be invited to get unaltered Star Wars 4-6? It's annoying because it seems like the site owners are trying to be supirior because they are the only access to unaltered Star Wars. I would try Pirate Bay but I don't really trust it and they have a few negitive comments on the unaltered Star Wars 4-6 saying video quality is sub par compared to the MySpeen versions.

This is not the thread for discussing this.  Off-topic has the myspleen invite thread.  And your assumptions about superiority are incorrect.  Please use the newsgroups to obtain what you're looking for if you need it now, otherwise please don't clutter up this thread with this issue.  Thanks.

the dvd can also be found on usenet. but i suspect it to be downcompressed to a dvd5, using something like dvd2one, because the trailers feature no audio and have serious macro-blocking :(

jetrell, is your dvd a dvd5 or dvd9?

Until it arrives, I don't know.  I will post more info when it shows up.

OK so if I understand this correctly you guys have the LD bit perfect PCM for Star Trek 1-5(still need 6, I hope we find it)

According to the thread, the current rips are bit perfect PCM for 3, 4, and 6, then non bit perfect PCM for 1 and 2.

5 is the one not yet ripped.

That said, the LDs of the original Star Trek films are relatively easy to find. And the greater issue is finding someone with the equipment tor rip.

and these 1080i files are way better then the BD video? why are they better?

The 1080i files, which I haven't seen (not a Usenet user), are free from the heavy DNR and EE that plagued many of the BD transfers. They're old HDTV transfers, but, at least, they look film-like....

Also, Voyage Home has additional picture information on the top and bottom, and the Wrath of Khan is the alternate director's cut (without the blue tint of the BD).

also what is wrong with the BD audio, or would the idea here be to have the LD PCM as an option like we do with most of our releases?

As far as I can tell, the difference is just that the BD is a remix, and the LD is the theatrical audio. I'll leave it to those with better ears than mine to sell the differences.

Nice summation here ...... now DJ doesn't have to peruse the thread to get his answers.

I am just trying to wrap my head around all this Star Trek buzz in this thread lately, but if these 1080i files are better, and we have PCM audio files, a movie only at least BD to compliment the Box Set would be pretty damn cool.

As we've discussed it here, these do NOT have the DVNR that the Blu's have and the color timings are nicer.

I believe I also have the DVD DTS Surround for Generations, First Contact, and Insurrection.

Another reason to start restoration projects... (^^,)

Correct video levels, synced lossless LD audio, 24fps, and full BD compatibility (1920 x 1080) for these would be the making of a fantastic (and massive) preservation project!

Is this even available for all films?

I have DTS for 3 movies, the others, if not all up to Insurrection, have PCM audio that can be applied to them.

Generations, First Contact, and Insurrection have yet to be capped.  I have these 3 LD's but no way to capture bit perfect audio.

Many thanks to dlbsyst for helping me navigate the treacherous waters of usenet! I've got II and VI safe and sound, will get on the others soon.

Since I've just had a tinker with VI, here are my findings in case anyone else is planning on doing a project:

The picture is actually 2.00:1 ratio, which is less wide than the supposed 2.20:1 of the 70mm screenings. It also has some extra lines at the top and bottom (some broadcast junk added by Sky no doubt) so it is in fact 1920x1088 - this needs to be trimmed for BD compatibility.

x5gb was right on the money with the video levels - if you set the input levels to 16 - 235 in your colour corrector, you'll get the proper black to white range (and a generally pleasing colour balance).

The frames are a perfect match to the BD video, but the video is missing exactly 2 seconds of black at the start - bear this in mind if you're using another soundtrack (such as Buster D's terrific PCM rip).

Other than that, it's a very nice and filmlike presentation. Thanks to everyone who brought these captures to our attention!

Have you perused II yet?  What are your thoughts on it?

@ Dlblyst.  Can I get the info needed to snatch these off of usenet? Are they passworded? I'm going to grab a 3 day pass to uns and see how much I can grab. I have no way to search back that far so I'm hoping the uns search engine will allow me to do that.

I'd have pm'ed you but your inbox is full.

UNS goes that far back.  I use Alt.Binz for my stuff and you should use NZBClub to do the search .... you'll be right as rain.

Is there a chance you would "spleen" the captures please? Pretty please?

This is a better example of how it should have sounded.

:)

Well in my case it's not a question of money, but a combination of living in an incorrect country, having a crappy internet provider (they "protect" me from going where or doing what I want) and not knowing how usenet works. That's why I prefer torrents. Or PIFs (if that's the right term)

As long as you have a good program and use a place like Usenet.com, it's all gravy really.  I pay for a better than average internet connection because my daughter uses the wifi at her mom's which is in the apartment building next to me.  I also have a wifi enabled Bluray player so it helps there too.
