He’s Dead Jim
He’s Dead Jim
I started my own.

I started a petition for the relase of it today.
And I need your support.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/447/692/861/future-release-of-star-wars-out./
Sorry I’m late but I started this petition.
I’ll be the second
So I just got the Bill Hicks comprehensive collection and it’s missing Bill Hicks’ best standup performance and the only one shot on Film “Revelations”
I’m looking for a dvd copy but this does bring one more question to mind,
Are there any copies of this performance on film.
Comedy Dynamics aparently burried this one and I would really love to have a high definition copy.
Well the good news is I learned that.
I wish I could see a 4k scan of all of these movies from their low fade versions on an omnimax screen.
As do most fans, lol.
I don’t know how useful this is but I found a low fade print of ROTJ on ebay, a 16mm version. it’s extremely pricey at a cost of $7,000.00 at the moment, but I’m hoping one of you finds this information useful.
I also found an open source film scanner project called Kinograph, if anyone is interest.
One CGI shot of the millenium Falcon leaving Mos Eisly at takeoff.
Recomposited effects shots w/o black lines.
Afew of the cloud city open spaces.
And alien languages on the power core of the death Star.
Bobba Fett’s ship following the millenium Falcon to cloud city.
And maybe Lucas’ Wampa costume scene’s.
But other than that, I’d. Prefer to hear Bobba Fett’s original voice again.
And The emperor’s hologram from Empire.
Anakin’s eye color being changed to hazel in ROTJ, for the sake of continuity.
And a new special edition change.
Vader throwing Rick Macullum in the reactor core.
And nothing else.
Technically Solo’s beef with Jabba is a spice drama.
But our desperation to see the OUT again despite Lucas’ objections is a splice drama.
Harmy has access now?
That’s awesome.
So I suppose I can conclude that the film’s are safe from the clutches of evil.
Who would have access to low fade prints of these films?
Do IB prints exist for return of the Jedi and Empire?
If not, what are the proper color references for these films, would it require going back to the print masters and other materials?
I understand and the first movie to be completely scanned in at 2k
Was “oh brother, where art thou?”
It changed the game.
I just mean, it looks like in 2008 one of the most celebrated films of all time would have been given the 8k treatment just like the wizard of oz.
And sometimes the fastest way isn’t always the best way to learn, but speed and efficiency and quality are somethings that need to be balanced.
I am very serious.
I’ve dabbled in it when I’ve had the resources to do so since I was 17.
But you have blown what I know out of the water, but I guess after listening to the guy whose doing the project I’ve dreamed of doing since I was 17, and raising the bar significantly I would expect no less.
Ever since I saw the documentary on restoring the godfather in 4k in 2008 I wanted that to be my life.
Does custom writing code play any part in your line of work?
And how is rec 2020 going to affect the legacy edition.
Will we ever see the legacy edition on a home format, say the new 4k one?
Odd part is I wasn’t expecting to draw your attention.
do you think that it could have something to do with the way that the computer systems in the player and monitor/TV handle framerate conversion?
13
Let me specify, what steps would a guy from Amarillo, Texas in his early 20s need to take in order to start a career path with film restoration as the end goal?
How do I get a job in film analysis and restoration, It’s always been my dream job.
The only other addition I can make at this point is I didn’t realize there was a technique to break a negative down into it’s original component stocks and recreate a negative from those component stocks, so apparently all is in the clear.
Individual RGB masters 35 mm
Original negative components
And a new negative
Legacy and other technicolor IB
prints
Reliance media
And archivists, collectors and
Print masters
And others I didn’t list so I’m only going to be offering a potential toolbox for anyone interested in delving deeper.
It seems most everyone has access tp better materials than me so I can ofder a toolbox.
I’ve got loads of other projects I want to do, I just didn’t realize that this board facilitated other projects.
I might still go ahead and do my research and provide the 10 seconds of footage restoration I promised.
But I’m a bit dissilusioned with my ideas, after seeing that Legacy isn’t an endangered project by any means.
So to say this much maybe my example research could benefit anyone who is working on an actual print, I didn’t want to have to compromise and use the bluray.
Don’t worry I’ll provide diagrams a pdf
3, 10 second pieces of example footage, one comparison and one original and one post
And a list of software and plug ins but in a nutshell, the materials I’d be working with would be vastly outclassed by anyone else.
So I’ll provide results as a proof of concept for anyone who wants to use them on their awesome projects.
Never mind, Everyone else here is way ahead of me on the preservation of this, I think my efforts would be useless.
my bad.
I suppose if it’s possible with the wizard of oz however, it should be possible for star wars.
And now for a question only a noob would ask, why wasn’t something this sophisticated done for Star Wars years ago, even if Lucas only would allow the special edition to be the cut distributed, surely FOX had enough power to retain an 8k master copy of the original version.
I mean due to lucas, there may be no money in it but why wasn’t that done for archival purposes?
I get that, I was just wondering
Based on other factors such as film degradation, lense quality and damage if you could still get 6k out of it?
