The good news is, despite all the Ghostbusters” sturm und drang, Hollywood has apparently embraced the female-led reboot. An all-gal “Ocean’s Eleven” spinoff, “Ocean’s Eight” is already in the works that will reportedly star Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway,Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.

Rihanna and Awkwafina?

If this movie doesn’t suck, I’ll eat my shorts.

Memes. Can we stop with memes? Jesus.

I’m okay with certain memes. The one meme format I hate with a passion are image macros. A meme like this;

offends me on a level that I can’t even describe. But memes like these;

[images with nearly identical format]

are alright with me, and sometimes I even enjoy them.

Okay…

nearly identical format

I just hope it’s better than the original.

So I’m not the only one who thinks it’s not that good of a film?

I can understand why it might not be enjoyable, but it is a technically good film.

It’s good looking but I found a lot of the characters to be flat and the pacing to be too slow and the payoff wasn’t enough to warrant the slow pacing. The first hour of Alien was slow too but it was well worth it when the shit hit the fan. I didn’t feel that with Blade Runner.

Yeah. I totally understand. I felt the same way when I saw it first. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting, it was much more slow and subdued than I was led on to believe it would be. But the cinematography is amazing, the soundtrack is great, and it’s rife with symbolism and themes begging to be picked apart. It’s less a movie to enjoy and more a movie to admire.

I still have The Final Cut on Blu Ray so I’ll probably watch it some time in the near future. What is your preferred version?

Only ever seen the Final Cut.

I already have it so I’ll probably just stick with that. Exactly how different are the 10,000 versions of this movie anyway?

1982 Original workprint (failed in audience tests, not released):

  • no voice over
  • no happy ending
  • no unicorn dream

1982 US theatrical release:

  • voice overs
  • happy ending (Deckard and Rachel drive through the countryside)
  • no unicorn dream

1982 International release:

  • more violence in certain scenes

1992 Director’s Cut (not done by Scott, but approved by him):

  • no voice overs
  • no happy ending (Deckard and Rachel just leave Deckard’s flat)
  • unicorn dream (suggesting that Deckard could be a replicant)

2007 Final Cut (Scott’s final version):

  • same content as Director’s Cut
  • many technical improvements

If I found Pyle relatebel right until before he blows his head off, I would be worried.

Maybe “relatable” isn’t the right word. I understood where he was coming from and I felt bad for him. Copy-pasted from another website;

The degradation, the constant mistakes and mess-ups…It’s bad enough to hear see and know how much of a fuck up you are despite how hard you try. It’s even worse when your peers and boss validate how much of a fuck up you are and punish you for it in their own degrading, scornful, alienating way. That sort of pain-knowing that everyone hates you and that you are the weak link of the entire group- is enough to drive anyone insane. Especially if you have the emotional fragility of a child.

Spoilers for Full Metal Jacket

Finally (kinda) watched Full Metal Jacket, and I was pretty disappointed. The first act of the movie was great, both Pyle and Hartman were amazing. I was really excited to see how Pyle would fare being on the front lines of an actual war, but that never happened. Perhaps this is only me, but I was led to believe that Pyle was the main character, he was interesting, and relatable, but halfway into the film he blows his damn head off. Then suddenly we’re following Joker, who was at best; bland. This movie can be summed up in one word;

DISJOINTED

I got bored by the time they got to the mass grave and that general guy asked about the peace sign and “born to kill” helmet combo. I’ll probably revisit at a later date and watch all of it, but I doubt my opinion will change. Apocalypse Now is far superior.

There are no rules, merely advice to help you avoid making stupid threads.

I disagree with how you are the only one who can provide advice to people.

And this isn’t a stupid thread. These threads were/are good ideas:

You want a HansiG, and you aren’t getting it.

Only two of those threads were good ideas.

I’m assuming you’re going to say Diversity was a bad idea.

I think forced diversity is a bad idea.

And if this thread had came from anybody else, there wouldn’t be so much whining about it.

That’s probably true, but since HansiG’s gone we need someone new to pick on 😛
