Compared with Gasoline

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ........... $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ........... $9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ........... $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ........... $10.00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 ........... $33.60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ........... $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 ........... $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ........... $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 ........... $84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER...

Evian water 9 oz $1.49 ........... $21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source. (Evian spelled backwards is "Naive.")

So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismol or Nyquil.

Thanks for the info.

I think people need to realize that the prices we experience are not really based in a free market. We do not have a free market...probably about 60% of the cost for goods we pay goes to taxes and the expense of producing the goods, while the remainder gets distributed to the producer, which then has to pay their employees (wages, benefits, etc and a new round of taxes. This is not being done by accident. I suggest people read "The Creature from Jekyl Island", by Griffin, if you really want a good idea on how/why things work in the world. Very interesting and an easy read.

Well, I've got a loooong way to go, as I'm in the middle of buying a new house and possibly on the way to a new job, so it'll be a while before I can do anything. I'll let you know if/when I get it done.

Put it this way, I'm on the lookout for a reasonably priced 128b ATI All-in-Wonder card with capture ability. For myself, of course.

Out of my curiousity, have you tried eBay? One thing I've noticed lately is that if there's a shortage of sets being sold separately, people are selling them together with the actual LD players...

So, how do I get my name first on that list?

Tell you what, after they've served my purpose, which will NOT happen in the short term, perhaps we can work something out if you're interested.

No, life is life. There's no point of view involved. Regardless of whether or not someone considers the child alive, life is present (again, there isn't a reputable scientist/doctor on the planet would disagree with this). The child does not spontaneously change species in the middle of it's growth.

that is your opinion. not everyone would agree.

I'm not sure what it would take besides what I stated above to grant the status of life to the child. If we fail to protect life, ESPECIALLY the defenseless, we're all doomed.

would the devoloping cells immediately after conception be regarded as having a physical body?

If it's not physical, what is it?

does a frozen embryo have the ability to grow?

A frozen embryo is by definition not experiencing the natural growth process. Would the embryo grow if it were allowed to continue inside the womb?

I do not believe a fetus has every body part immediatly after conception. The body parts take time to develope.

The lack of certain body parts would not invalidate the fact that at some point the child would manifest these parts, or that the child is alive.

But when does the fetus become a member of the species human? does having the correct DNA and the correct number of chromosomes automatically make somthing a member of the species human? this is a very difficult question.

A physical body, in addition to the DNA, chromosones, ability to grow, etc is enough to warrant protection, if anything.

This point involving abortion is somthing I had not thought of before. It is a good point. This is a serious concern.

Pretty scary one too, considering what's going on in Europe with institutionalized euthenasia, and the push for it here.

Basically bridge the gap between the original movies (the OT.. lol) and the 'Young Indy' series in which, continuity-wise, we know Indy is alive into modern times (albeit very old). At the finale of my film I'd like to have him lose his eye, again bringing continuity to the series.

This is what I believe they'll do. I've read in the past that they did not want to try to make Ford look young for it, so hopefully they'll age him gracefully.

Hey! don't you go insulting Star Trek fans!....I'm one of them! Although I can't say I am a fan of the lastest star trek movies. I'm more of a fan of the classic trek. Since when are Trek fans more "GEEKY" than Star Wars fans?

Simple.

Star Wars fans merely suck up to one guy, and a few MOVIES that happened to have some spinoff novels and games (and ONE upcoming TV series).

Star TREK fans suck up to a COMPANY that puts out a CONTINUAL STREAM of TELEVISION SHOWS (each with like hundreds of episodes and each of which is progressively worse than the previous show, though the fanboys won't admit this because special effects and "deep" shit like "OMG there's a shapeshifter who feels left out!" are more important to them than, say, actual good writing). and Trek, too, has novels, games, comics, and other assorted peraphernelia.

So you see, Star Trek fans are more geeky simply because there's more to be geeky WITH ^__^.

Trek fans tend to be more...stubborn about their show than most people. Too many of them refuse to admit that what is currently being put out by Paramount SUCKS because it's Trek. I'm a HUGE Trek fan, however I consider it dead after DS9 went off. Voyager and Enterprise were train wrecks, but there are many people who would yell at me and stomp their feet merely because I'm daring to bad mouth ST. I've written to Paramount to tell them how much the current Trek franchise sucks. Thankfully enough people have turned away to get them to kill Enterprise...

I just wanted to add a few things to the discussion. If you are debating homosexuality and abortion in the context of religion, it is different than if you are debating domestic policy. The Bible says that homosexuality is a sin(1 Corinthians 6:9). That does not mean that it should be outlawed or people should stone homosexuals. It does mean that homosexuals should not be clergy, or even members of the church. Christians are still called to love them, but there is a difference between loving a person and accepting that person's sin.
As for abortion, it is not discussed in the Bible because they never thought of it as an issue then. However, the Bible does try to indicate where life begins. In Psalm 51:5, David states, "Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother concieved me." and in Luke 1, Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visits her cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John, and John leaps for joy in Elizabeth's stomach. You have to be alive in order to sin or be joyful.

Well said. Hate the sin, love the sinner. Although, I do believe a good argument can be made outside of the bible for both issues that would lead to abortion being outlawed and no recognition for gay marriage.

Asha quoted a verse from Exodus where it seemingly indicates a price had to be paid if an unborn child were to be killed as the result of a fight between men, or more broadly stated as the result of an accident involving more than one person. However, the verse in question does seem to put a lesser price on the life of the unborn child than it does the mother, in which case it calls for a punishment of eye for eye, tooth for tooth. This being said, Christians are no longer under Mosaic law, and Christ commanded during his sermon on the mount that eye for eye and tooth for tooth was no longer the way, but that anyone who committs murder or holds contempt for his fellow man is in danger of hell fire.

My take on this whole discussion is I got into it to explain why Christian churches believe the way they do. My point was that the churches that understand their faith and their doctrine base these decisions on biblical principals, and are thus bound to obey them. As I said previously, nobody is forcing anyone to belong to these churches. Trying to coercing them to change their rules because you disagree is a little Orwellian.

The guy thinks this is a good plan, but then again, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer either. Anyways, he picks up the girl, they have a great time at the movie, a wonderful dinner, and she has a sparkle in her eye when he suggests they drive up the mountains.

After finding a secluded spot, the guy parks the car, looks the girl in the eye, and says, "Get out, or I'll put you out."

(P.S. This is not good advice for a first date. )

My intent was not to frighten anyone, or say this girl is or is not like other girls. However, I will say that situations like this remind me of the line in "Men in Black", where Will Smith says "Well, you know what they say, tis better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all", to which Tommy Lee Jones says "Try it". All I'm saying is be cautious. That's all.
