That's a really good point. J. M. Straczynski had an interesting take on that when he cast Walter Koening as Bester on B5 and fans were saying it would be Checkov on a space station. He basically said that the only thing people who get typecast do "wrong" is create a character that people will remember forever. Like Robert Deniro and Al Pacino. They always play gangster types or cops. I'm still seeing Pacino as Scarface on t-shirts and art prints now...all over the place.

After reading some bio info, he does appear to have been a brilliant and well liked actor. He was nominated for two emmy's, and won 1 of them (for Riddler). He lived for a time in a town about 20 minutes from mine. I used to work at a McD's in that town just out of high school, and a lot of stars/well knowns came in, although he did not. I did get Roy Scheider in my line once. He was always one of my favorites too. 2010 was killer!

Grammer To Play Blue Beast in 'X-Men 3'
Fans of Kelsey Grammer are set to find him tough to recognize in his next project - he's playing a furry blue monster in the second X-Men sequel. In X-Men 3, the former Frasier star will play oversized mutant Beast, who has not yet appeared in any of the franchise's installments. While there has been a shocked reaction to Grammer's casting, producers of the movie insist he's the perfect choice for the part - because Beast is the most intelligent of all the mutants. Snatch star Vinnie Jones is also set to undergo a huge image overhaul when he plays villainous Juggernaut in the movie. His character is a 900 pound metal-clad battering ram. The sci-fi series stars Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Famke Janssen, Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Romijn. The movie, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn, is set to debut in May next year.

Fine by me with the movies thread.
Look for Sin City on DVD in August, and there's also talk of Rodriguez doing two sequels, which is good news, in my book.
I'd like to see Gaiman's Sandman go to film, or even an anthology tv series based on the comics. Think that would be cool. I'm just finishing up Volume 2: The Doll's House. Hopefully the quality will remain as good as it is now.
I've heard that WB is going to get the Batman and Superman franchises back on their feet, then do the vaunted Batman vs Superman movie. I wish they'd adapt Dark Knight returns.

Last night I had a dream about GL. In the dream, I started out by going to some event where he would be having a panel discussion, or a talk or something. So, I went there with the full intention of melting the paint in the room with a tirade about ruining a chunk of my childhood, he's a suck ass director, the works.
Anyway, I don't get a chance to in the talk, however afterwards, I'm talking to him telling him he's the greatest director and filmmaker in the world, he's just really misunderstood, the PT is better than the original, the people don't "get it", the original trilogy doesn't exist anymore...like the misunderstood Soup Nazi in Seinfeld. Next thing I know I'm working for him as his official spokesman defending him on the internet and stuff. Then I woke up. Thought I turned into that little sycophant bitch Kevin Smith for a second there.
Pretty scary, huh? Was figuring he had some type of mind control power, like on South Park and the Earth Day Brainwashing Festival, and the guys who keep waving their hands, hypnotizing the kids saying "It's all the Republicans' fault. They're poisoning the Earth"....blah blah blah blah...

I'm personally going in with a clean opinion slate and not even thinking about the first two prequels. I'll just simply take this movie on it's own merit and hope for the best.
So have fun tonight, tomorrow or whenever you get to see the final Star Wars movie.
May the Force be with you.....for me...to poop on.
Well said. I'm hoping to be able to add at least one movie from the PT to my SW "cannon".
Enjoy the moment, everyone, and may the schwartz, or force, be with you.

Yes. As a Christian, I'm wary of paying too much heed to anyone/thing the way some people do. I agree with you 100%. Too often the people who are serving as "role models" in this day are not worthy of the name. People who have young kids are having a much harder time these days with trying to provide good example for their children. My wife and I have, believe it or not, turned to comic books, where there are still heros of the type kids can look up to, thankfully.

Prior to signing the National Rifle Association (NRA) supported bill, Gov. Jeb Bush stated, "It`s a good, commonsense, anti-crime issue." The "Castle Doctrine" simply says that if a criminal breaks into your home, your occupied vehicle or your place of business, you may presume he is there to do bodily harm and you may use any force against him. It also removes the “duty to retreat” if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. Furthermore, this law provides protection from criminal prosecution and civil litigation for those who defend themselves from criminal attack. The ability to protect yourself, your children, or your spouse is important, no matter where you are. “I want to thank Governor Bush and the bill sponsors, Sen. Peaden and Rep. So the Infinitely Stupid Law has been repealed? Good.
(Good grief that it ever existed!)
Yes, it has been repealed. Unfortunately it exists elsewhere (don't have a list), and it's also being espoused by the UN Convention on Illicit Trafficking in Small Arms (otherwise known as: Disarm law abiding citizens and put them at the mercy of their tyrannical governments).

I thought the finale was fine, but I wish they had let us hear the speech by Archer. This is a landmark occasion for the Federation and I thought it would be interesting to see. They should have added Avery Brooks' voice and Kate Mulgrew's voice to end. Also, I wish they had come up with a new scenario for Riker(he got his own ship in the last movie, why can't we see that?) rather than just rehash an old Next Generation episode.
I agree about Riker. Definitely would have been nice to see him on his own ship.
IMO it was good to keep Mulgrew and Brooks out, as this show and the other two were about ships named Enterprise, after all. There was no monologue for VOY or DS9.
The speech by Archer...pheh..."Peace and Love, accept any and all beliefs as being equal, blah blah blah blah...*insert more socialist drivel*", you get the point. I'm fine without it. I thought Enterprise in it's final year was better than the first 4 years of VOY, but not the last two. VOY and ENT fell into the false jeopardy and bogus plot line traps: Ship is en route to generic alien with bumpy foreheads planet, encounters generic spatial anomally, techno-babble resolution, hit the reset button for next week. Very week. The result is a show where none of the characters grow, change, die, or face any type of real threat. Until they get a creative team willing to challenge the BS Roddenberry utopian drivel philosophy that the last "creative" team adopted, you'll have a show with no character driven conflict, eg: nothing interesting.

Let me get this straight, in Florida if a person came into my home with the intent to kill me and prevented me from escaping, I would be legally required to "submit" and let him kill me? That is absurd!

Warb: England did not possess nukes, but it did possess poison gas. At the time it was by FAR the dominant power in the world, considering it had holdings in Canada, Australia, India (soon to split into Pakistan), Africa, Ireland, Hong Kong(?), Scotland, etc; The saying went at the time "The sun never sets on the British empire". England didn't lose it's dominant position until WWII.
As far as a government using them on a population in revolt: That would be pretty extreme. They'd have to be willing to use them on large segments of a population that largely wouldn't care one way or the other, and was not actively fighting them. Likely? Depends on who it is.
