I've always thought Crisis was good, but a bit over-rated. The DC crossovers, "events" etc are it's biggest strength and also it's greatest weakness.

yeah, they should have used her for the part in that Sci-Fi mini-series/sequal...though the girl they used was pretty good looking if my memory serves me correctly...but i think im starting to veer off topic.

Which of his book would you most recommend? As i've said i have read The Long Walk, The Running Man, and Rage and want to read Green Mile, Firestarter, and The Dead Zone. Are those books better than their movie adapations (i kind of expect they would be) but would be your suggestions for someone that wants to start reading his books?

I personally liked Needful Things (and I liked the movie...Max Von Sydow was GREAT!!). If you're looking for a looooong read, The Stand weighs in around 1400 pages or so, I think. Many of his fans consider it his greatest work, though probably not good to jump into right off the bat if you're looking for something lite. I haven't read it, but I hear Gerald's Game is quite good.

B) 'The Adventures of Bob and Doug MacKenzie in Strange Brew' (aka Strange Brew). Most of you younglings won't know who the heck Bob and Doug are, but not only is the basic 'plot' of this film Hamlet, but it is probably (along with Clue) one of my favorite comedies of all time!!! And it has an AWESOME Star Wars joke in it!!

Why should apple give up their architechture? The real bottleneck on x86 systems are the chipsets, not the actual P4 (which is a RISC/CISC hybrid). The G5 is supposed to be way superior. But IBM can't deliver. There are heat problems and they can't go over 3ghz. So it's a good choice, since IBM has now more "important" customers as sony (ps3), microsoft (xbox 360) and nintendo (revolution).
The real fun will be 2005, when there is MacOSX 10.5 vs. Windows Longhorn.

I've always believed that Apple makes a superior product. In fact, I use iTunes and am getting ready to get iPod shuffle. My point in saying they should allow clones was probably wrong now that I think about it. Apple is playing it smart by making good quality stuff like the iPod and licensing the tech to companies like HP. I just hope Jobs's ego doesn't get the best of him, but I think he's grown up a lot since he returned.

OS X.5 will obviously never take market share from Windoze, but it's fair to say it will be better.

I can imagine the Apple folks aren't too happy because of the performance issues. As I've always understood it the MAC chips were historically faster than intel because of better architecture. Now they're getting the slower chips, on top of the DRM stuff, which just adds to the overhead. At this point, Apple may as well give up it's proprietary architecture. Go clone all the way. Their real business is going to be in consumer electronics and content delivery in a big way.

How can we request it? please because i don't want to be a "padawan learner" again.

i am not going into the computer industry, i made that decision along time ago because i saw that the market was going to be flooded with workers.

Nor is the size of the population infinite, or the rate of growth.

So, what are you going into? I thought you said above that you're getting into computers...I hope you're not getting into medicine in Canada...then you're at the mercy of the system. You get paid what the government pays you.

Before someone else says it, this should probably be in off-topic, but hey! I'm relatively new here. Anyway...it doesn't necessarily have to be a one shot deal. There are cons in certain areas of the country/world where people have easier access to than others. For example, if there was one in NY or Pennsylvania, I could make one of those provided I'm feeling ok (health issues...long story).

"At 448 pages, the proposed EU constitution is longer than the telephone directories in most big cities. It is more of a Socialist manifesto than a constitution. ... But the French voted against the EU constitution because it wasn't socialist enough. They feared the free-market ideas prevalent in Eastern Europe could threaten their 35-hour workweeks, six weeks of annual vacation, and heavy subsidies for agriculture and inefficient industries. ... It isn't often we owe the French a round of applause. They deserve a big hand now, even though they did the right thing for the wrong reasons." --Jack Kelly

as for malthose, he didnt factor one thing into is theory and that is that food resevres and resources on the whole would increase as the population increased. and so he theory isnt garbage, we jsut havent reached the point where the population becomes bigger then what hta planet can sustain. thats still along way off but still that doesnt mean we should keep going the way we are.

Food is not a finite resource. It can be grown, replanted, recreated, etc. This is being done now, or else Malthus's doomsday scenario would have come true already.

And, yes, the people in India are hardworking and honest. However, the fact is that MANY American jobs are being lost to India (I was laid off in 2003 from a computer position...I made it to the final 10 out of 85 people) and the H1-B visa program in America is a disaster for our workers, with the usual excuse being that there aren't enough trained Americans to take the jobs, or the jobs are too menial. This is patent nonsense, and as I stated previously, if the playing field were leveled, via a global minimum wage for instance (which would never fly without a global currency) then the west will continue to bleed. Unless you're going for an advanced degree like a Master's or Ph.D (preferred) you may be in for a surprise in the computing industry. I've been in the field for over 10 years, and I've got a good idea of where it's heading.

There's a LOT of stuff to spend money on from what I've heard. Another thread had suggested that we try to organize an OT.Com con or something, or at least have a gathering at another con that already exists. I'd be up for this!

Also, its already probably too late for this year but I believe organizations or individuals can get cheap 'booth' space at DragonCon without having to pay full 'dealer' room fees and many people use these to promote fans films, websites, bands, etc... it would have to be manned all the time but might be cool. Good promotion for the OT.Com. Heck, time permitting I'd probably volunteer the man the booth for a bit if others would as well.

On a side note, there's a horror convention coming up in Baltimore in August that I'm thinking of going to as well- looks pretty cool:
HorrorFind Weekend

A booth at a con would be a good idea, IMO. Would be a good way to get the word out about the petition, and also for folks from the boards to meet face-to-face.

The Goonies is one of my all-time favorites because it was made back when kids in film were allowed to behave like real kids and not like stupid cartoon characters.

I bought the DVD the day it came out. It was a close call too because Warner Bros. originally planned it as a full-screen release. Donner found out right before its scheduled release and demanded they make it widescreen. I'd never seen it in widescreen, so the DVD was a real pleasure.

And also before they became Rhodes Scholars. The kids in today's movies have conversations that most 30 year olds I know don't have. Don't get me going on the teenagers. The message seems to be "Give your teens whatever they want, and everything will be ooooookaaaay".

Also, I do own the DVD, however I haven't watched it yet.

Hmmm...good question. You'd think that because Palpatine was so successful in turning the senate and the courts against the Jedi (as explained in Ep III) that he'd want to hide his true nature from all but a few. Vader's abilities are on display for Tarkin in ANH in the "choking scene" in the Death Star board room there. Also, his senior military staff drop like flies in Empire, so in the long term it's probably feasible that people do know what's going on.
