Oil Storm
Time
I posted an article in a thread about a month ago regarding a society called the Bilderburgs. The gist of it is that this society is really a secret group that are in cahoots to drive the world to a single socialist government using the UN and global economic bodies (WTO, IMF, World Bank) as it's main tools. In the article, there was discussion (keep in mind that the article was written about 6 months ago) that the world goes through 1 billion barrels of oil every 11 days. They then state that there hasn't been a find of an oil field greater than 500 million barrels in over 25 years. They say that taking into account the growth in China and India, that there is only enough oil for the next 20 years. The article also says that the concensus at this meeting was that hydrogen replacements for hydro-carbon fossil fuels is a fantasy. Further along they go into detail about how there would need to be an economic crisis of some sort, a recession or outright depression, to take money out of people's hands in order to find out what to do, and that $125 a barrel oil would not be out of the question, which could lead to $6-$10 a gallon gasoline.

Environmentalists who refuse to allow more refineries (there were 4 taken out from the storm) or drilling, and God forbid: more nuclear power need to take a back seat. Letting our dwindling supply of oil go down the drain while wistfully dreaming about wind power isn't going to cut it anymore. We need to get real about this in the short term and get the oil while the getting's good, while alternative research goes into high gear.

Halloween (the holiday, not the movie)

Halloween was definitely my favorite holiday as a kid. I lived in a very small neighborhood next to a major state road with many houses on it, but my father was paranoid about me going on it, so I was stuck in my neighborhood and relative's houses. I outgrew it around 12, I think. Then, a few years later my friend convinced me to go out with the "older" kids, which was cool, then I did the teenage halloween get together deals and haunted houses, followed by trick-or-treating with my girlfriend/fiance at the time. Now, my wife usually takes the kids while I stay home and hand out candy. We just moved from an almost zero kid neighborhood to one that we hear can produce about 200-250 kids per Halloween, so we need to get ready.

A big part of my affinity for it, I think is that I come live in the American North East, and that time of year is the best time of year for us, with the beautiful Autumn colors, cool breezes (but not too cool), and knowledge that the family holidays are right around the corner.

Yeah, last week's ep was exceptional, to say the least. I thought the music cue when Apollo had Boomer against the wall, then they cut to commercial was excellent. Dying for tonight's conclusion. Only 3 more left in the season after tonight. Going to be a long few months.

Microsoft Anti-Spyware

Somehow, the idea of Microsoft created security program doesn't instill a great deal of confidence in me. I laughed when I first heard they were building it in the first place.

I'm happy with AdAware.

Actually, as with much of what MS does, the Anti-Spyware product was not their creation. They bought it from someone named Giant Anti-Spyware, I believe.

I think Ad-Aware is good, but I've seen that you need more than one in my experience. We use Ad-Aware and a product called SpyBot, in conjunction with an ad/cookie/web-bug filter and we still come up with junk in there. MS is good because they're currently offering real-time protection for free.

"The power of the force stopped you, you hosers"

Great flick

I too have a commercial copy. It's a bare-bones release, but it's worth it.

I've been contemplating getting into the Sword of Truth series, but it seems the later books didn't go over too well (at least according to the reviews on Amazon). Do you agree?

Any Anne Rice Fans?

I started reading her books around 1990, and fell in. Started with Interview with the Vampire, then was devastated when I thought there were no more. But, a few days later I came across The Vampire Lestat at my local library! I think Lestat and Queen of the Damned, as well as Witching Hour and Lasher are her master works. However, I kind of stopped reading around 1998, and haven't been able to bring myself to read the most recent editions in the Vampire Chronicles. Actually met her once at a book signing a few towns over. She was very nice, and personalised my copy of Violin (which I thought was sub-par).

Anyone else a fan?

Dreams Thread Reloaded!
Time
Well, my wife and I just bought and moved into a new house in the last month. The people we bought from were in their late 70's, and were very nice people. About two weeks after we were in I had a dream about these old people performing all these satanic rituals and stuff in the house, in the basement (my office), slaughtering animals, and stuff like that, painting pentagrams(sp?) on the floor in blood. Very creepy.

**Identity Crisis Spoilers ahead**

This was revealed in Identity Crisis. Basically what happened is, they revealed in a flash-back that Dr. Light had sexually assaulted Sue Dibney, and how they thought he was the prime suspect in her murder. During the flash-back, Oliver revealed to Wally West what happened, how some members of the group, ie: Zatana, Black Canary, Hawkman, and one or two others decided the only way to stop Light from doing it again was to wipe his memory. There was a big fight, as some people were against it. Batman showed up and saw what Zatana was doing, and he went to stop them. So, they wiped him too. He slowly figured it out, and so did Light and the rest of the villans, and that's why they're taking it kind of personally.

It's totally evil, without question.

I hate: being 1/2 of a two person IT department that has to do the following over 5 sites:

Put out "fires" with daily break/fix
Database development
Information Security
Maintain/Upgrade servers
Research new products
Make purchases
Network support (infrastructure)
Give new employee orientation
Implement a new "show runner" agency application
Deploy new software
Develop logon scripts
Backups
Disaster recovery and Business continuity planning
Employee training
Move-Add-Change requests
Imaging new workstations

God, I'm depressed...

Superman Movie
Time
I know there was an older thread for this, but I was unable to locate it. Here's a few clips from Bryan Singer's journal of his appearance at ComiCon, and also a few scenes from the new movie. A little long on the con piece, but the scenes that are in this look pretty good. The first time I saw him in Clark Kent getup I thought he definitely looks like Christopher Reeve (IMO). It's the Bryan's Journal #20 link on the side of the page.
