HahAHhahHAHA.
Probably true. But if things got too heated I would probably back down in case Chaltab or sage (or both) was executing their 'God given right' to bear arms

LOL...naaaah. I only carry when I'm going to hunt cute little animals and baby-seal clubbing.

I don't see how this can be an issue, from a legal standpoint based on what's already happened in the past. There was a big fight about VCR's when they hit the mainstream, but as I understand it, the result was the signal is coming into my house. I can record it if I wish so long as I don't redistribute it.

LOL! I almost bought a GameBoy Advance yesterday so I could play Super Mario Bros and Zelda!

That must be the version of Punchout that they made after Tyson got busted.

DVR's in use

Dish Network PVR510: 120-140 hours (Stock - 120gig HD)

TiVo Brand TiVo Series II TCD24004A: 168 hours (Hacked 160gig HD)

Unused DVR's

Philips TiVo PTV100: 14 hours (Stock 13.6gig HD)

Philips TiVo Series I HDR112: 14 hours (Stock 13.6gig HD)

Philips TiVo Series I DSR6000 DirecTiVo: 30-36 hours (Stock 30gig HD)

Philips TiVo Series I HDR112: 0 hours (No HD)

Philips TiVo Series I HDR212: 0 hours (No HD)

Panasonic PV-HS2000 Replay Showstopper: 0 hours (No HD)

Sony TiVo Sat-T60 DirecTiVo: 0 hours (No HD)

Rik: Have you heard about some people reporting that on their TiVo units they've noticed shows that have been "flagged" for deletion by the system after a certain amount of time? I believe the official line from the company was that they were testing this technology but have no intentions of deploying it. Pretty much the people who were targeted believe that it's the first steps in copyright holders protecting themselves by not allowing someone to retain copies for an extended period of time.

The Saturn was built to be a 2D gaming powerhouse. Sega failed to recognize the emergence of 3D gaming, which is what Sony focused on when developing the PlayStation. This is especially odd considering Sega introduced such revolutionary 3D arcade titles as Virtua Fighter. The 3D capability of the Saturn as it was initially designed was pretty bad, and when they found out what Sony was up to, they hurriedly incorporated a couple off-the-shelf Hitachi chips to bolster the Saturn's 3D performance. It also had the unfortunate effect of pushing the launch price to $399--and the PlayStation's 3D capability was still superior.

I have a Saturn, and I don't think I've seen a console before or since that so perfectly emulated 2D arcade games, particularly fighters. But its 3D performance isn't so hot.

A Dreamcast and a copy of Crazy Taxi got me through almost three months of convalescence after a bad car accident. That and a lot of Sci-Fi Channel back when it was worth watching.

Jay: I totally agree. Saturn rocked on certain things, especially Virtua Fighter, which I thought was way ahead of it's time, but suffered from poor market research (little to no 3d) and bad word-of-mouth.

What the Dell is a pizza stone?!

Other than a running Ric gag?

There was a big thread about this in the past. If I remember correctly, Ric was fascinated, yet frightened of this concept.

Exactly. Soon after that I was able to find one, and did 2 pizzas with it. The first one was not so good, the second one was OK, but I belive the pizza stone did little to nothing in contributing to the pizza flavor.

Since this pizza stone discussion originated in a totally unrelated thread, I mention it whenever we are getting away from the topic, or as a random "subject", hence, my little running gag.

The deal with the stones is you've got to give them time. The whole idea is that they become "seasoned" after extended use, and the pizzas get better as time goes by. Just remember (and this was another thing that drove you up a wall, if I remember) don't clean them with soap!

...GAAAAAHHHH!! My eyes are bleeding!! BLASPHEMY!! DOUBLE BLASPHEMY!!

The Atari was a CLASSIC console! Although I prefered the Intellevision.

The 3DO was an AWESOME console, and a great idea too: make an open format and allow other manufacturers to have one... The Panasonic was the best one! It had a great graphic engine for that time, a great video compression, and great games, why, it had a high-res version of Night Trap! The award winning "Twister"! The first versions of FIFA Soccer and Need for Speed were released for the 3DO! It had the best version of "The Incredible Machine"! It had good versions of Street Fighter Turbo! It had a brilliant way to allow 8 controllers into one console (the second controller was connected on the first one, and so on, up to 8).

I still remember when I first played the Neo Geo, in a sunny saturday afteroon in 1992, with a friend of mine, at a video store that allowed you to play consoles for a few bucks an hour. We had those huuge controllers on our small, 10 year old kids laps, and played Art of Fighting... I was in awe, playing that cool 32 bit console for the first time...

(*sigh* it's about 75% of what I've written previously... )

I always thought 3DO had some AWESOME games in the arcade. I never knew they made a console, but I'm sure it was good, based on what I knew of them.

Sega has left the hardware game, and the others are just corporations putting out hardware for third parties to make games for. I still bought the X-Box, but I respect Nintendo and Sega in a way that I'll never respect Sony or Microsoft, because they were focused on producing quality, fun, creative games irrespective of mass-market appeal. And this is coming from an avid Nintendo-basher in the days of yore. Call it naive, but that's what it was all about back in the day.

I agree with you. It seems like the other manufacturers are pushing the hardware envelope just to push it and saturate the market with cookie-cutter games. Nintendo's philosophy has always been about quality. They may have a smaller library compared to the other two (not over the past 20 years, though!), but their stuff is miles ahead in originality and design. I bought a GC for our house this past July. My first console since Sega Saturn, my first Nintendo product since NES. I love being back, and plan on getting the revolution when it comes out.

That being said: Any idea on a street date or price tag on the Rev?

We have a Game Cube at home and love it. I think Nintendo has a great philosophy about gaming...a standard tv will only support a resolution so high, so they concentrate on game quality over system hardware. HDTV is not yet prevelant enough to have justified support in the GameCube. Revolution had better be ready, though.

Jay's is so right about how most games nowadays seem like a walk in the park compared to those NES games. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that we've all grown up and stuff. But man those old NES games were tough.

I think you're right. There was nothing else for me back then. NES was life, 24/7. Had a lot more invested in it so I think that it was more important. Can't tell you how many holes I punched in my walls because I got so torqued off.

I beat Mario 1 after the first two months. After that, I could do the whole smash without "warping", or skipping worlds. Of all the games I played, I think the original Zelda was hardest for me. Mostly because it was so in-depth. EVERYONE was playing that game when it came out, and I remember us all giving eachother tips and stuff to get a little further.

It's all in the timing. He gives certain indicators of what he'll do next. I haven't played it in at least 13-14 years, but watch his eyes. When they start to blink, get ready to dodge, then hit him with the big upper-cuts.

The one my brother and I couldn't beat was Ikari Warriors. Got all the way to the end on multiple occasions, but just couldn't get past it.

If you can get your hands on an Amiga, it may prove costly as those seem to be quite the collector's item because of their graphics abilities. I think in the early, early days of Babylon 5 the CGI was done on one of those...

I also had a Vic 20. I had a really weird game where you had to brush these giant teeth and a very cool text-based adventure game that I really, really sucked at.

The Amiga used on Babylon 5 was known as the Video Toaster. I first heard about it on SciFi Buzz. Remember that show? Those were the days when the Sci-Fi Channel truly rocked it hard. Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of an Amiga gaming rig. Nothing as advanced as the Toaster.

Jay: I don't know too many people who appreciated Sci-Fi Buzz. That show ruled. Around 1998 that channel was really good, with the new MST3K shows running, Sightings, etc. Then they shook things up and completely screwed us.

Or will it work with any 802.11g compliant wireless router? Also, do I need any special software add-ons in order to burn DVDs with the Super-Drive? Or is that native to the OS? I'm a Windows person, so I'm not sure about some of this stuff...Thanks for any info.

the airport card will work with any wireless router. and the airport works with any wireless card. its all interchangable.

If you plan on burning dvds, then best program out there is Toast, but most can work through iDVD. there are also a couple free and inexpensive shareware that does the job as well. check out VersionTracker.com. hope that helps.

Cool. Thanks!
