Thx...

Anyways, I agree. I know releasing Essentials without color keeps the price down, but it takes so much out of the experience. I've been tempted to color them myself, sometimes. Yeesh. That would take forever.

A monumental undertaking, to say the least. That's why I'm hoping they release more cds like they did with Amazing Spidey, although that has the disadvantage of the cds having less tactile feel than having the book in your hands, not to mention a watermark on all the pages.

Anyways, I'm not really a huge fan of anything Marvel except Spiderman, so I normally stick with DC.

I was a perennial DC nut for years. However, due to the movies and because I really like Straczynski, I've given them a chance, and I'm glad I did. Their "MAX" and "ICON" imprints for mature readers offer some quality stuff, and I think their art is ahead of DC, to be sure. My current pull list:

Amazing Spidey
Friendly Neighborhood Spidey
MK Spidey
Supreme Power
Astonishing X-Men
New Avengers
Batman
Detective
Gotham Knights (bleh...don't care for the artwork)
Legends of the Dark Knight (bleh)
All-Star Bats
All-Star Supes
JLA
JLA Classified
JSA Classified
Green Arrow
Green Lantern
Ex Machina
Superman
Wolverine
Supergirl
Teen Titans

I'm hoping Marvel's "The Sentry" goes to a regular series. Picked up the first issue and I love it. Interesting concept:

It's a quasi-Internet Relay Chat client (I know people will disagree with that assessment...it's along those lines!). The acronym means "I Seek You", get it? ICQ...

Anyway, you're assigned an ICQ "number" which people can use to contact you via the chat client and chat in real time.

I was wondering about this too. I'm an MSN Messenger man myself - my username is mattfitch at hot mail and you are all welcome to join my contact list. I think it would be very cool to chat to some of you in real time.

I was wondering about the MS and Yahoo people myself. Microsoft and Yahoo have just announced that they're making their IM products cross-compatible, which would mean a much wider audience.

I remember reading that series. It was really cool.

What was the name of the series where Thanatos(sp?) got the Glove of Power(?) and the five stones which made him ultra powerful? THAT was a fun read as well.

I always wondered, though: why didn't Wolverine cut off his arm, instead of stabbing him in the heart? Wouldn't cutting the glove off have taken away his powers?

I'm just getting into Marvel now. Was always a DC person while I was growing up (from about 86-92), then I got away from collecting. I think Marvel has some interesting characters to say the least. I just wish they'd make their "Essentials" series in color or do more CDROM releases of their archives so I can catch up.

TFAW?

BTW: Finally read Infinite Crisis #1.

SPOILERS

I thought the final "discussion" between Supers, Bats, and Wonder Woman was done quite well, although I'm still a little in the air about why she was going to kill Mongul.

The ending was awesome, but also frustrating. I haven't read Crisis on Infinite Earths in MANY years, and will now have to pick up the TPB just to catch up on it again. Should blow the whole weekend for me now! GRRRRRR....

Mister Simspson, this is going to be the biggest case of fraudulent advertising since I sued the producers of "The Neverending Story".

LOL I remember that one... It's an old one, in which Homer goes to a "all you can eat" buffet and isn't allowed to eat all he can.

"Your honor, let me show you how much mr Simpson ate that day"

* Lots of lawyers come in carrying huge sacs. One of them aproaches the judge and opens up the sac, filled with letters *

"Five thousand letters, all adressed to Santa Claus."

LOL..."Mrs Simpson what did you and your husband do after you were thrown out of the restaurant?" "We drove around looking for another all you can eat seafood restaurant" "And after that?" "We went fishing..." *Marge breaks down and starts sobbing* "Ladies and Gentlemen, I ask you...do these sound like the actions of a man who had ALL he could eat?"

Edit: You could write a book with all the classic lines from this show...

I've thought of that too, but since neither I, nor my legal guardian has a credit card at the moment, I'll probably hold off on that.

Right now I'm spending about $70/month going through my store. If I can get it to $60 or below that, I'll have to seriously consider it, as much as I hate to take the business away from my shop.

Really annoyed me, since I'd just looked at All Star Batman/Robin 2, which was only 2.99. I gave the guy the wrong amount. *grumbles at DC's prcing scheme*

I found myself contemplating direct-mail subcriptions. Get up to 20% off the cover. Problem with that is they tend to arrive after the shops get them, and also not in the greatest condition.

They should have showed that episode as a tribute to Dan Rather on his way out...especially the part where Homer's being interviewed and you see the clock going back and forth, back and forth. LOL

Did anyone pick up Infinite Crisis? I picked up both variants, and my shop said they ordered heavily because demand is pretty high. Haven't actually read it yet because I'm still playing catch up a little on the pre-crisis tie ins.

I was rather dissapointed in how confusing IC1 was to people who hadn't read the tie ins. Crisis on Infinite Earths could easily be picked up and read by anyone, but Infinite Crisis has way too much backstory.

Still, the last page in the book.... Dang.

Still haven't read it. Darn got me hooked. I was thinking of heading to my shop to pick up the reprints of the Day of Vengence tie-ins but I'll wait 'till Wednesday to pick up my latest subscriptions. After that, the only ones I'd be interested in getting would be the Superman "Sacrifice" tie-ins, but that didn't stop me from reading all of OMAC. I think that the OMAC series would make a good movie, but probably never happen.

You're right about Crisis on Infinite Earths to a point. Anyone not familiar enough with the DCU at the time would have been lost. Myself for example...I was *just* starting to read at that point, and that was really only Batman, and I was having trouble with the multiple universe deal. However: I can now read it without a problem. It was pretty much the defining comics event of the last 30 years in terms of DC.

You mean it was defining comics ten years before it was published? This year is the 20th Aniversary of Crisis, not thirtieth. And though I might see how it could be confusing if you'd never read a comic in your life, I knew enough about DC, mostly due to JLU, to know what was what. There were a bunch of characters, I didn't recogonize, but I knew that who they were was pretty irrelevent and just tried to read the story as a whole.

Yes, that is what I mean. DC was a bleak place in the 70's. Marvel was rolling.

Milhouse playing with soldier toys over a piece of paper that is supposed to be Bart's soul: "If the Ayatolah can't have it, no one will!"

Or the Sideshow Bob episodes... most of them were good.

And the one about the pretzels, featuring Jack Lemon. In which the Yakuza figthed with Fat Tony's gang.

"But Marge, that little guy still didn't move, and I think he is going to do something cool!"

"May that doughnut forever be on your head!!" - Devil Flanders "Homer that'll never heal if you don't stop picking!" "Awwww, but I'm so sweet and tasty!"

Ric: Do you watch the show in English, or is it dubbed in Portuguese?

Oh, another episode I like is the Homer the Inventor. My favorite quote form that episode goes as something like this:

Marge: "I don't think women like being shot in the face."
Homer: "Women will like what I tell them to like."

"Homer, you had it set on "Whore"!" - Classic episode.

Tonight was another classic (they're showing a LOT of the older ones here right now)...the one where Marge is afraid of flying.

Homer gets kicked out of Moes, a man with a top hat and tails walks in and looks exactly like him "Hello. My name is Man In-Cognito" "Oh yeah right Homer" "Homer? Who is Homer?" - They kick him out onto the street and Homer walks by him like a minute later. That's classic Simpsons humor...one joke on top of another on top of another.

Beatles
Queen
Neutral Milk Hotel

Also local and overseas prog-rock bands: Mutantes, Som Nosso de Cada Dia, O Terço, Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Equilibrio Vital

Huuhhhh...I'm always wary of the term "Progressive" much like when being discussed in politics. It seems like it's the only word in ANY language the left considers not open to matters of perception or interpretation. ANYWAY Back on topic...I heard a funny story about the Beatles the other day. My brother-in-law was in a music store the other day and heard a couple of kids talking about Paul McCartney. One of them said "He was in the Beatles" and the other said something like "The Beatles?" and the other replied "Yeah, you know. That band before he was in Wings". They're slowly becoming anachronistic along with everything else we hold dear (not that I was ever a big fan).

Do you listen to Steve Miller or Alan Parsons? My brother was big on Parsons.
