Actually, Marvel has ventured into this. They released "40 Years of the Amazing Spider-Man" on Cd (or DVD?) that did quite well. There were some people griping that they put a watermark on the pages to protect against printing them, but my biggest would be that you don't get the same tactile feel as you do with an actual book.

When I and my brother were still living with my parents, the Treehouse of Horror was like an event. Absolutely my favorite episodes of the year. However, since we've both been on our own for about 8 years now, and because the show bl#ws in general now, it's not as big a deal, although I still watch it with my dad.

I created a database to start keeping track of my comics and such. This morning I decided to do something really suicidal and insert a calculated field to tally up my costs on this. Wow...wish I hadn't. Still not done putting in my whole catalog, but it ain't gonna' be pretty when it's done.

"Now we're two."

Of course DKR was better, but DKSA was still an enjoyable elseworlds sequel. It wasn't a Batman graphic novel as much as it was a Future DC Universe graphic novel that based itself off of what happened in DKR. I only have two real problems with it:
1) Dick Grayson. What the hell was that all about? Ruined the finale.
2) Catgirl. Not THAT big of a deal, but Miller should have kept her as Robin.

Would have been nice if they had at least given some insight as to Grayson's deal.

Also, I liked Catgirl's character, but I agree she should have remained Robin.

I too am looking forward to A feast for Crows and don't know why it's taken so long. It had a couple of previous release dates that were bumped up. Supposedly the book has been done for a while, and he is working on the next one in the series.

Glad to meet another GRRM fan.

From what I gather, he began Feast by jumping it ahead 5 years of where Storm of Swords left off, then telling much of the story in flashbacks. He then found that this didn't work, and had to scrap it and start again. He took much of the unused material and is putting it into book 5, tentatively titled "A Dance with Dragons", which is already 1/2 done as a result. He also said this will result in a 7th book in the series, again tentatively titled "The Winds of Winter". I hope this next book is ok...I find that when I'm doing anything that my first instinct is more often correct. I LOVE this series, and I do believe it's better than Tolkien's stuff.

I'm actually in favor of this. I could never stand waiting until November for a Halloween special. Just didn't seem right. Fox needs to lose the Series.

Haven't really been keeping up with Batman. I read spidey and DD though. The last thing I read that was Batman was one of the wargames stories. It confused me and dis-interested me in the rest of the story. I loved DKR but didn't like DKRSB. Miller is losing his edge or getting too old, or something. All his earlier stuff was great, although I couldn't understand some of the things going on in Ronin.

Brian Bendis is the man right now in Comics. He and Joeph Loeb are the guys to read.

I think Straczynski is also VERY good. His Supreme Power relaunch is going onto my pull list, as well as his Book of Lost Souls.

I had that one a looong time ago. The artwork was....different, that's for sure. And the story was good.

Should check out The Killing Joke. That one has it all. Great story, some of the best art I've ever seen, especially the cover.

Books I intend to read soon are:

Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan

Eragon and eldest by Christopher Paolini

the rest of the history of middle earth series and anything tolkien

I finished the new harper collins edition of smith of wootton major by J.r.r. Tolkien and edited by Verlyn Flieger with tolkiens original notes, it was quite good.

You should try Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy series. Better than Tolkien, IMO.

But don't they go "Ohh, why don't you want to participate! Come one! It will be fun!", and do some peer pressure so you just give up and go?

Hmmm...not in my current circumstance, but it has happened in the past. I worked for a MAJOR corporation until 2003, and it was easy to get lost. There were over 900 people in my department. In a prior position to that one, yes there was much pressure, and that was a FAMILY owned (not my family) business.

However, there are other types of pressure where I'm at now, mostly stuff like donating to charities and stuff. Don't get me wrong, I think donating is a good thing, but it should never be pushed on you through subtle, veiled threats. And that was nothing short of what I definitely, and others allegedly got. Stuff like "If you want to be a team player you'll donate part of your pay to this organization...even if you don't like them".

Wow...that sounds very deep, very depressing. Have you seen Hotel Rwanda?

After my current reads, I'm going to be doing some research on Greek Mythology for a book I hope to write.

Hey Ric...Halloween show right around the corner. I still look forward to them, even though they're almost guaranteed to be awful these days.

"Mmmmmmmm....forbidden doughnuuuuut"

*homer takes a bite and Devil Flanders shows up*

"Well well well...finishing something?" and starts dragging Homer to hell, there's fire and brimstone everywhere

Marge walks in "Homer...did you eat that doughnut!!?"

"no"

actually, Black History Month is Febuary.

when the hell is white history month? Oh, wait, that would be racist...

I believe the argument of the other side is that white history is the other 11 months. They would argue that in regular history classes, black history is ignored. So the only it is black is covered is to have seperate course or Black history month. I'm not sure I agree, but that is what they would argue.

This is probably a topic to file under politics. But my two cents is that nobody should be coerced into treating any month as being more or less special for any reason, and agree or not, these "multicultural" events are being RAMMED down our throats.

Ditto.

I'm going to get me some Batman TPBs this weekend, anyone suggest any good ones?(Besides Hush and the Frank Miller stuff)

I've heard Dark Victory and The Long Halloween (appropriate for this weekend, no?) are very good.

I picked up the first volume of that a while back. Kind of luke warm on it so far, and Azrael has always been kind of a joke to me.

Well, I'm buying Bats but not reading any right now until I get caught up on the Hush and Wargames story lines. I will say that given a cursory reading of Detective that that book is very good right now.

I've heard people say that the Supes books are generally in decline, and that a lot of people are upset that John Byrne was allegedly only brought in as "filler" until a new creative team was found, especially since many people consider his work on Supes to be the best.

As for Miller's other Batman project? Well, I just hope he re-reads Year One and DKR before he starts on that, because I'm more than un-impressed with All Star.

I will say that I think Lee's artwork in All-Star rocks. I like the 5 o'clock shadow they've given Bats, and it's quite reminiscient(sp?) of Miller's work on the original DKR.
