Batman: "What are you, dense? Are you retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman."

I'm going to check it out anyway, just to see how damn psychotic Batman is in this series.

BTW, I got accepted to UNC at Chapel Hill today, so thats one thing less to worry about.

Duke Sucks!!!! LOL...Good luck and congrats. I'm a UCONN fan, so I hate Duke with a passion. It always amazes me how the selection committee somehow puts them in Raleigh, Durham for the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament every year... *cough* favoritism *cough*. UNC has a proud tradition.

Couldn't agree with you more there. Plus, over the past several years, their lineup has been horribly stitled. They only have, like, three or four shows that they endlessly put through rotation.

I grew up watching Nick at Nite, I know for a fact that I watched it much more than the cartoons of the day.

I couldn't count how many times I watched IDOJ, Lucy, Taxi, Get Smart, or Bewitched.

Yeah, Nick @ Nite and TvLand came around during a pivotal time for me. The early-mid 90's were a time of "I can't believe I'm done with High School, now I'm mooching off my parents" for me, at which point I was extremely depressed that I had "outgrown" all the shows I used to watch in reruns during the summer and snow days. Nick was a Godsend at the time. I have officially foresworn it now that that pig Rosanne Barr is on there. I think DVD sets of these shows is going to put a fork in these two networks over the long haul.

Back on topic: I hate, the song that won't get out of your head. My kids watch a show called The Big Comfy Couch, and there's a sequence in the beginning where the lead character is doing stretches on top of a picture of a clock, and the entire time they're playing this really addictive music and it's been in my head all day... Arrrrrrghhhhhhhh!!

I managed a comic store from about '93-'98 which was the height of this painful time. My heart dropped everytime I sold 20 copies of a comic to some person who would say "This will put my kid through college!" Even if it meant the sale being lost I would still try to explain that it was quality and more importantly SCARCITY that made comics financially valuable. I personally find the value in comics to be the level of enjoyability I get from reading them... waiting to find out what happens next... great art and great story and the feelings you get when experiencing them as a whole. Too many kids and adults 'collected' comics as opposed to reading comics. Sigh. I used to tell these investors that if they REALLY wanted to increase their chances of the comic becoming valuable then they should buy 20 copies and DESTROY 19 of them. In fact the more that are destroyed the more 'valuable' the remaining ones become. I call this 'forced scarcity' but regretfully it never caught on.

I actually toy with the idea of someday opening a comic shop in the city where I now live which really doesn't have one. Those were good times for me, working in the comic shop. A place where geeks and non-geeks alike could hang out and discuss fun but useless stuff- much like we do here!

I've often thought of opening one as well. I read a pretty good article by Kevin Smith (who I personally can't stand) on the subject of opening your own. Basically said that you need $50-$60,000 MINIMUM to start out.

Also, the industry's move towards redistributing back-issues via other media (Marvel's CD Rom series, for example) is going to further squeeze the local shops. If I were going to do it, I would probably make it some type of combination business...and not baseball cards. Something different.

Like submerge the industry into nearly ten years of "XTREME!!!!!!11eleventy" crap. I know Moore and Miller and the like didn't mean to do it, but unfortunately their contributions were 'copied' by lesser writers and it nearly destroyed the industry.

What? I don't follow...

I've always understood the industry was almost crushed because of investors who didn't know anything about it and were looking for a safety net during the recession of the early 90's. They bought any comic they could get their hands on, which forced companies to ramp production, then when it ended the publishers tanked.

I don' think its the best show out there, but I find it entertaining...well, I dunno about nowadays since they got rid of Macgyver and the General. Haven't really seen it.

Was it bitter feelings that Farscape got canned for all the other Stargates series? Just curious.

(As a side note: I read somewhere that the creators of SG complained that the series was "going off track" and heading somewhere they did not intend. I'll see if I can link it)

I enjoyed the original movie tremendously. However, I lost interest in SG when it was on Showtime and they had Amanda Tapping's character beating up Ghengis Khan's warriors in hand-to-hand combat. Little to "PC" for me at the time. I've often wanted to try it out again. My point was that it seems like SG is ALL that SciFi shows at times.

Tecmo is quite possibly the best sports game in history, all things considered. Way ahead of it's time. Before anyone flames me that is the context in which I mean it...that NES was an 8-bit system.

Oh yeah, and thank God nobody from the NFC East is going to win this year....AGAIN.

Even the original movies were halfway decent. I remember this one called Deep Red with Michael Biehn (The Terminator) that was pretty good.

Now? I bought BSG on DVD after seeing one episode. Haven't had time to watch it yet, but I look forward to it. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about SciFi.

SciFi, in my opinion, went downhill immediately after bringing in Bonnie Hammer. She was put in charge of "fixing" the network, and one of the things she did was kill everything that made the network great, starting with MST3K and all of the "cult" shows that were classics. I LOVED SciFi Buzz and Lost in Space, as well as Sightings and a show with Geoff Fox that I can't remember what the name was but he did a lot of stuff on the space program. The channel's hey-day was, IMO, from 95-late 98. BSG is the only thing that channel's got going for it now. Stargate is becoming the Law and Order of SciFi. Waiting for "Stargate: Downtown Pittsburgh" or whatever to come around next.

BTW Jay: You ever read any of Ellison's stuff? Picked up Strange Wine a while back, but have not finished it yet. Quite good so far.

I agree that this week's episode was not quite as good as usual, however I will say that an off week for this show is still WAAAAAAY better than most anything else that's on.

Did anyone else pick up on Moore's comment in his blog about doing a clip show??? I think that would have been a serious mistake. Thankfully they opted out of doing it in favor of a "through the eyes of the cylons" episode.

COIE is, to say the least an impressive feat in terms of artwork. The dialogue for me is a little dated, as well as the "clouds" denoting internal dialogue and thoughts. Not many doing that anymore.

COIE is one of my all-time favorite comic stories. I've read comics on and off since the mid 70s but haven't avidly collected since 1998- so I'll bite... just what ARE they doing now instead of thought balloons (ie the 'clouds') to show inner dialogue?

That was one thing that struck me when I returned to collecting a few years back. I initially collected right after COIE came out, which would have been around '86 or so, when it was still common. I think Miller's run on Dark Knight and Year One had more to do with this being over than anything else.

Is anyone else ready to scream over All-Star Batman?

*Possible Spoiler*

It's going into the 4th issue and Miller's STILL got Batman and Grayson in the damn Batmobile!!! I think the artwork is fantastic, but Miller's dialogue is terribly repetitive and the action is quite slow moving.

On the plus side, A-S Superman is great so far. Fantastic artwork and an actual plot.

There's no question that certain niche games will be around on pc for a while longer. I LOVE Rome: Total War, and cannot see how it would play out on a console.

2. The messed up names that some anime have, ie: Samaurai Champloo. One Piece. Full Metal Alchemist (what's with the loin cloth, btw?).

My favorite is that one called something like "Jojojo jojojojo"

Actually, it's Bobobo-bo-bobo. Wherein the villains are those who shave people's heads.

And Sage, the only loincloth I can think of in any of the anime you mentioned is Alphonse Elrich's in Full Metal Alchemist (the name, by the way, makes perfect sense in the context of the show) and Alphonse has his soul stuck in a suit of armor, so it's not like he really even needs clothing.

I was joking. It's often referenced in X-Play when the FMA psychos email them to bitch about them giving a bad review to the latest FMA game and their wise cracks about the characters wearing a loin cloth. Almost everyone emails them and says "IT'S AN APRON!!!!".

It's pretty creepy. Think its the only case in history where an "entity" has been directly tied to a murder.

There was a movie made on it called The Bell Witch Haunting that my dad and I picked up for Halloween. It was done by a local production company in the area of the haunting, but I must say, for low budget independent production the quality of the DVD is fantastic. There's another one in the works called "Our Family Troubles" which is "based" on a book by one of the family members, however in typical Hollywood fashion it will resemble the book in name only.

I too, am eagerly waiting for Revolution. I left console gaming after Sega Saturn in favor of pc gaming. Last year I bought a GC for the family. Nintendo by far has many more family friendly titles. It's a shame the GC never took off.

Nintendo's philosophy on the current state of the industry is spot on, IMO. Cramming graphics chips into a box that supports HD when only like 25% of people with HD are actually using it is NOT innovation. Nintendo is keeping development costs down by not supporting HD, but is giving people tech they can actually use, with WiFi and USB support, as well as that controller that I'm DYING to get my hands on.

*edit* IMO the pc as a gaming platform is all but dead. The pc section at stores like EB and GameStop are almost non-existent.

they're not far away from figuring out how to crack games and once that happens it will be open season...

So I suppose there is NO way for a videogame company to protect their games, eh? I mean, when Half Life 2 came out, the security behind that was so tight and so annoying that I thought no one could crack that. I was wrong, took only a month after the game was released to open the whole thing... I do belive you cannot play online with a cracked version though.

Sadly there's no protection scheme that someone can't figure out. It is inevitable...
