Any Chess Players Out There?
Time
Heh. I loved the PC version of Risk that came out around 96. It's a classic. That's why I enjoy the Rome: Total War series so much. It's like Risk on steroids. I've gotten more time out of that game than any other in my history, with the exceptions of the original Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda for NES.

A friend and I played a week and 1/2 game of Monopoly once. At the end we were so strung out from it that we both just threw all the pieces off the board and up-ended it, declaring a draw. Ahhhhhhh....good times.

My best moment was playing my idiot brother a few years ago. I made a couple of major mistakes and he made me pay by invading deeply into my territory. I usually like to be on the offensive, but I completely pulled back and started concentrating on nothing but pushing him out and ignoring his side of the board. It paid off and I beat him in a shocker. I loved the look on his face.

Always remember: Control the center of the board and you control the game. By this I mean if you can cover more central squares than your opponent, you've got them (at least for the time).

If you're not a comics fan, I'd suggest the novel American Gods, which is fantastic. If you are a comics fan, I'd suggest the Sandman Trade Paperbacks, starting with vol 1: Preludes and Nocturnes (although the series hits it's stried on the 3rd one). If you're on the fence about comics I'd suggest you try to pick up the 6th volume called Fables and Reflections, which is a great collection but particularly the last story called "Ramadan", which I think is one of the best stories I've ever read, in print or comics (and it's beautifully illustrated).

And for what? He percieves himself as morally untouchable because he never HAD to grow up and learn, never had to question anything. He was essentially bred to save a universe that went and screwed itself over with darkness, and he never really had a choice in the matter.

On the other hand, I figure they might explain the darkness of the universe itself as a result of the "perfection" of the little Paradise Alex built. I wonder how he would react to learning that all the bad things that have happened to the universe are HIS fault.

(Superboy Prime, on the other hand, has no excuse. He was raised by the Kents on Earth Prime for the first 16 or so years of his life. He is actually older than Alex Luthor, physically at least. Emotionally, yeah, he's about two. And I hate him.)

Chalts! I'm surprised at you, being a fellow conservative and all...

Your point about Alexander is akin to the "I had a rough childhood your honor and THAT's why I killed all 15 of those people!". Please, oh please. I agree with GC on this. "Well, he's a Luthor" just ain't cutting it.

All right, GC now you're scaring me

I too went to Trilogy Tuesday. It was indeed an amazing event! The theater I went to also brought in pizza for us and had good deals on dogs and soda. I forgot my film cell on the floor !! Grrrrr... I remember my brother and I went and I wore sweats, kicked off my shoes, then took it easy the rest of the time, which flew by BTW.

Those sound pretty cool. I'll have to check them out...Ha. Caught me for a change!

BTW: Finished IC #5 the other day and also all of the tie-ins for the most part. This is the best thing DC's done since COIE, IMO. I'm looking forward to the Checkmate and Shadowpact ongoing series spinning off from IC.

Possible Spoiler/Theories on IC:

I'm of the opinion that somehow the "negative space" of the anti-matter universe is really what changed Alexander Luthor and SuperBoy. I think we'll find out that the long term exposure to it is what made them wig out. It's a little too much to believe that all of them would flip simultaneously.

Actually she's been even worse. When I was living in Tampa she used to show up occasionally in the club district down there (Ybor City) and I tell you what- for awhile in the mid 90s she looked (and acted) like the crack whore from hell. Very sad. At least she cleaned up but that's a hard road to recover from.

LMAO!! You know, I almost said in my post "She looks like a crack whore who's been living on a freight train", but then I said "Sounds too harsh, I'll take that out". Then I saw yours...LMAO.

I think a great example of a big blockbuster that was also had a great set of characters, wonderful dialogue and a good story is Die Hard. Bruce Willis was fantastic in it, and his character was believable (reluctant hero with fears and weaknesses of his own). We need a return to this.

On the issue of theaters, I totally agree w/GC on this. Start it on time, no commercials in a quality theater and I'll watch. I'll add that they need to get the idiot teenagers under control as too often now they are ruining it for me.
