I just finished The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb, which I thought was quite good and draws a lot of it's material from Year One. The City of Crime run in Detective Comics I thought was good as well.

Has anyone read any of the One Year Later titles? I read Detective, Bats, and Green Arrow last night. So far, so good. Gives them a lot of lattitude.

DKR and DK2. I think it's safe to say that almost anything Bats in the 90's and beyond has been heavily influenced by Miller, no? That's my point. The dark, dark, dark Dark Knight came to life post-DKR/Y1 and has been like that since.

*EDIT* BTW, I'm with you. Can't believe how bad All-Star Bats is.

I DON'T THINK HER HE-MAN VOICE WOULD LEND ITSELF WELL TO THE ROLE.

I agree. I was half-joking. If they could somehow dub her voice without it sounding or looking like a 70's martial arts Japanese import she would definitely look the part.

I don't know, Sage. Sure, Bats was somewhat psychotic in Dark Knight Returns and some writers have suggested that he has a strong mental unbalance, but on the otherhand other portrayals of Batman show that he is clearly sane, even if somewhat obsessed. Maybe Begins and B:TAS have colored my view, though.

I guess it all depends on what part of the Batman timeline you were in on. I'd say pretty much anything by Miller and Bats is a-social and borderline OC, however I remember when the series was still in the early 400's when he was nowhere near as dark as he is now. Much more focused on the detective aspects, etc.

I think Baron hit this one on the head. Peter has adjusted well relative to Bruce, and has not made it as personal, that's for sure. Peter's use of his abilities is more rooted in Uncle Ben's mantra of "With great power..." yada yada yada, vs Bruce who "says" that his war is to keep more kids from growing up without parents (it's true on some level), but in the end it winds up being much more about vengance, bordering on the psychotic, IMO.

Bryce looks ugly with blonde hair.

You need help man...

Does anyone know what's going on with the film adaptation of Frank Miller's 300?

It's in production, I believe. He's switching between that and the new Sin City.

After reading all this, I had some questions - in DC continuity, is Ra's Al Ghul and Henri Ducard meant to be one in the same? I know this is a plot-twist in Batman Begins, but it appears to me after reading these comics that they are two completely different characters...was it just for convenience's sake?

Well, I've only come back to Bats in the past year for "real" after a long absence, so I've got a lot of catching up to do. However, Ra's was always a seperate character in the past, who never bothered to hide his identity, so I would tend to think it was for a "what the hell?" plot twist in the movie...

I, too, am sorry for your loss. Almost inconceivable that the same date could yield such tragic circumstances twice. And I find it even more eerie because my cousin's birthday is March 24th. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Yes. At some point in the future I'd be interested in knowing the odds, although not now. In actuallity it turns out to be only around 1 hour apart.

Thanks for the kind words. The funeral was today, and I'd say there were rougly 600 people there, with about 500 at the wake last night. This has once again shaken us to the core, and I'm not sure my family recovers from this one. It's odd. My wife pointed out today that the death of my other cousin 6 years ago brought the family closer together, while this one has great potential to let it fall apart, as my aunt is the "glue" at the center of many relationships and it's a cause for great concern.

Free Enterprise

My wife is a casual fan of both SW and ST. If either of those is on, she'll watch it, but doesn't get into it to the level that me, my brother/friends do. I told her she would think it (Freen Enterprise) was funny, but then I said that she probably wouldn't get a lot of the jokes, especially with the dialogue snippets and references. Sadly, I never dated anyone who shared my interest in comics/superheroes. The scene where he corrects his soon-to-be-ex girlfriend about the title of Requiem For Methuselah was a riot. You knew he just HAD to correct her, as I would have.
