The X-Files - Worth Watching?
Time
Well, just finished the second disc of the first season. You guys were right...what an awful set of "Monster of the Week" episodes, though I did like "Ice" where they were trapped at the Arctic Circle. I think the episode where the computer takes over an office building is one of the worst examples of bad sci-fi I've ever seen.

However, I'm still looking forward to the next one so I can get into the mytharc asap.

We used to wake up at (or try to anyway) at six am to watch cartoons when I was a kid. But I guess with Cartoon Network and other cable channels with cartoons, they get cartoons all week. I remember there used to also be an hour of cartoons in the afternoons right after school got out everyday.

G.I. Joe & Transformers were my afternoon "block". Ahh, the day.

Seriously, though, who debuts a freakin kids show at TEN AM Saturday morning!? Kids don't watch TV on Saturday morning--they SLEEP! And why didn't Cartoon Network pick these up?

Have things changed so much since I was a kid? I was always up early to watch Saturday Morning cartoons. Of course, most Saturday morning cartoons anymore are just reruns of Disney Channel/Nickelodeon cartoons, and not much new, original programming.

Too true. Saturday Morning Cartoons are one of my favorite memories from childhood. The CBS and ABC lineups, particularly. I guess with so many cable channels in competition these days there are too many to choose from, and the kids don't appreciate them.

Agreed. They're obviously not spending too much on sets and such, but still nicely done.

I really like Tigh's character. One of my favorites since the beginning.

Official Indiana Jones DVD Release

Meanwhile, I keep looking both under "I" and under "Y" for "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" but nothing. Lucas is sitting on 22 more Indy films (or 45 TV episodes for the purists) and I for one want to see them for the first time. The way I see it, the IJ boxed set is FAR from complete.

Unfortunately, the site I used to frequent for Indy news, The Raider, has recently renovated so I lost the original article. However, the last time I looked on the site they had news that the Young Indy chronicles are in DVD process. They're dedicating a lot of time to these as they want them to be "correct". Now, that word coming from LFL (if it did) should send a chill down our backs, but, take it with a grain of salt. I have heard 2nd or 3rd quarter 07.

Edit: Oh, and to actually answer your question, I think the release is stellar. Lowry did a much better job on IJ than on SW. The only bone of contention with some fans that I'm aware of is the digital removal of the cobra's reflection. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. Greedo shooting first, it ain't.

When the set was first released, I did hear that they made a change during the rolling boulder scene in the beginning of Raiders to eliminate some equipment that was visible during the theatrical cuts. Not sure if it's true, but as you say it ain't Greedo.

Star Trek DS9
Time
*bump*

Been watching this on my DVR recently. Discovered I REALLY missed it. I haven't watched it for quite some time, and I'd forgotten how good it really was, especially in light of the other spinoffs. I still believe that at times it suffered from the problems that killed the franchise, but man the Dominion story line is just awesome.

There was a great quote on Studio 60 the other night that's somewhat germane to the conversation. "Living where there's free speech means sometimes you get offended." Brilliant writing. I'm glad Aaron Sorkin is back on TV doing what he does best ... writing good stuff like that.

Haven't seen the show yet, but it looks good and a good point. Like the line in an original Star Trek episode when discussing freedoms "They must apply to everyone, or they mean nothing". Free speech is a not just a two-way street, it's a mega-highway.

and unlike other programs out the Trek Shows are Very High Priced! IMO. I think all Trek Fans are Very Rich. and now that studio doing the TOS Trek show in HD CGI plan the do the same to ALL the rest of the Shows like: NG,Ds9,Voy and Ent. all with *New* Fx and CGI in HD.

Instead of making a New Show they plan to RE-Sell the Old Ones. ?

Trek is not the only cash-cow in Hollywood. The entire Blu-Ray/HD-DVD thing is going to allow them to reissue the entire DVD libraries again, and people will buy them.

Whether or not it's worth making a new series is another debate, but we're talking about roughly 420 episodes just on the spin-offs, 300 of which were crap. I wish they'd do a "best of" set for Voyager, 'cause God knows the series as a whole blew cheese and is not worth buying. The only series I'd consider buying the whole sets for are TOS and DS9. TNG I'd buy starting with the 3rd season.

I agree. The availability of the original, unaltered ones on dvd makes this a moot point. HOWEVER, I will say that I'm eager to see these new versions, as I find myself less and less able to enjoy the originals due to how dated they look. IF, and ONLY IF they don't have like, the original Klingons dancing around in tutus or something, ala LFL with their yearly "This is the way George REALLY wanted them" release, I'll be able to deal with it.

Forgotten Films
Time
Anyone have a movie that has been forgotten? I mean something you may have seen and loved when you were a kid, but that nobody else seemed to know about, that you'd like to see again?

I have one called Saturday the 14th. It's a horror spoof movie that had Jeffrey Tambor in the role of vampire Count. Can't even find a Wiki on it.
