Put a deposit on Phantom Hourglass today. Coming in October.

I am having a TON of problems with the Wi-Fi connection for my Wii. It's really irritating me. Not sure if it's a problem with the hub itself or my pc. Grrrr

Proximity? USB 2.0? Problem with the adapter itself, or the Wii connecting? Cordless phone interference?

Just trying to help you out here...

Howdy. Thanks for the info.

It started out as the connection seemed to keep dropping. For instance, I would fire up the Wi-Fi registration tool, then the Wii wireless test, but the Reg tool would not initialize properly. I tried reinstalling it. Same problem. There is some significant distance, so I tried moving it closer (within the recommended 30ft, I believe) and nada. Now I think there's a multitude of problems as my system will not even recognize it any more. Going to bring it down and plug it in within 5 feet of the router and see if that makes a difference. Cordless phone is on a different floor, and no interference on my other wi-fi devices.

Sluggo... dude... you're like TOTALLY "They're coming to get you.. Barbara..." in that second one! Awesome!

DAYV!!!! You came back too! Whoo-hoo! Its like a regular disfunctional family reunion!

Sadly I had no freakin' clue about the Barbara reference...had to reach waaay back to get that one. Haven't seen it in about 13-14 years!

Has anyone played Sonic and the Secret Rings? Picked it up this weekend. The beginning of the game, especially the narrative section, is incredibly tedious and difficult to sit through.

However, once you get going I think it's pretty cool. I enjoyed the original Sonic and Sonic 2, so playing it in 3d with the Wii-mote was a treat for me. Definitely worth at least a rental.

Hmmm... the jewels in my gaming crown?

1. Defeating SMB all the way through, no warps, no deaths.

2. Continuing in a playoff run during EA Sports NHL98 with a desperation, last second blue-line slapshot against the Penguins with 1.2 seconds on the clock.

3. Defeating my older brother and his friend consistently in Karate Champ.

4. Defeating Tyson in Tyson's Punch Out for the first time.

5. Tolerating the save system in WW... Just kidding!

Overall it's a big turn off for me. I'm assuming the Fire Dungeon in WW is not that difficult, being the first one, and yet I've spent about 2 hours on it and keep getting stuck at the beginning because I've got to take the kids somewhere...GRRRRRRR

Jed, it's always been this way in Zelda games. It's nothing new.

Then it's always been shit design...

I must admit, the old school gaming days did seem more difficult at the time, but looking back - the lack of save games was a substitute for actual difficulty, and an actual challenge (and by no means am I saying that modern games are pulling their weight in this respect, either). The clear and present danger of having to start all over again the next day was the moving force to complete a game...

I totally understand that, and you're right it was a HUGE motivator in the old days. I was thinking about this in the wee-hours today. I love the game, don't get me wrong. However this "feature" is a huge detriment to my continued play because I just can't afford to spend the time on it like I used to back then. I'm going to continue trying, but I'll have to remember to clear about 3 hours of uninterrupted play when entering a dungeon in the future.

They should just kill Aquaman.

Yeah, I always forget about aquaman. He's that superhero nobody cares about. But he is DC not Marvel. Anybody see the robot chicken sketch where they had a super hero big brother reality show? Everyone kept picking on aquaman because he didn't have any real super powers. It was pretty funny.

I like the episode of South Park called "The Super Best Friends" better, with the hero called Sea-Man that all the other heroes call Semen. LOL...that ep ruled. It's the one with the Blaine-tologists.

I'm still stuck at the part in TP where Link has to escort the wagon with the sick Zora child back to Kakariko Village - I can't seem to multi-task enough to shoot the riders, the bomb-dropping bird things, and put the wagon fire out with the Gale Boomerang. It's really frustrating me, actually. I'm a gamer of moderately above-average skill, and I can't get past this part for the life of me. /rant.

If you're liking WW, Sage, and you don't own a Nintendo DS yet, you might want to get one when Zeldahantom Hourglass ships - it's being previewed right now and most reviews praise it for capturing the look and charm of WW.

If you guys haven't seen the new trailer yet, here it is:

And, just for the hell of it, here's one of many new screenshots from the SOON TO BE RELEASED Super Mario Galaxy...

Yes! I saw an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto on AOTS last night and I saw footage of SMG that took my breath away. By far the best graphics I've seen on a console on standard tv, and the game play looks outstanding.

I have been seeing advertisements for Phantom Hourglass, and I will be getting one asap (I have a DS).

Wind Waker/RE4 updates

WW: OK, I'll admit, I LOVE this game now. I've done a total 180 on it. The animation is beautifully done, the game play is clever though not overly difficult. I'm currently in the Fire Dungeon on Dragon Roost island. I'm at a part right now where I'm fighting a scorpion like creature in the middle of a lava pit. Had to put it down finally this morning and get ready for work. I can't WAIT to play ALTTP, Ocarina, and Majora's!

RE4: Finally got past the lake creature (thanks to whomever said to try to steer the boat, that did the trick) and I've just defeated a giant and am on my way back to the church. Things are tight though...very little ammo so I'm hoping to get more soon.

All in all I think my gaming life is quite excellent right now. I put SMSS aside but need to get back to it. Of all the games I'm still finding that one the most frustrating, especially the camera (again).

You're just now doing a company wide upgrade to XP? How many computers are we talking about here? If it weren't for the fact that 90% of the applications at my job won't run on Vista, the two machines we just ordered would've had it. As it is, we have to upgrade our anti-virus, contact management, and I have to tweak the login scripts before we can go Vista. Not that I want to go Vista, but it's really just a matter of time before we're unable to get XP.

That was actually a rift in the space time continuum. That message was originally posted in 2002 and finally just caught up to our timeline.

No, I work at a non-profit so upgrading as soon as a product comes out is not always possible. It's not always possible for several years...

I think I've been forced to reboot my home XP machine a handful of times since I've installed it 4 1/2 years ago. It is built on the same kernel as 2000 Pro and NT. I'm not sure how much it lost in the process but the NT kernel overall has been quite stable.

One thing I don't like about XP is the "look and feel" of it out of the box. I changed back to the classic Windows desktop almost immediately upon seeing the grassy hillside crap that comes native.

There was one cool C64 game called Nightmare Park. It was a mixture of text adventure and action. There is a part where you get chanced by a stampede of rhinos (I think, might have been unicorns though) and all these ? "Y" come pracing down the screen and you have to dodge them.

Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y YYY Y Y Y Y Y Y
Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y Y

Good stuff. It is funny to look at the games that use to be the latest and greatest and see how they look by todays standards. I still have a commodore 64 in my garage and it still works, but it doesn't have any thing with it. It is just a keyboard/CPU with a TV jack, pretty useless when you can't load anything on it. I keep it for historical reasons.

The C64 was like top-of-the-line back in the day. I had a Vic20 for many years, and played the text-based RPGs on them. They were so frustrating it's beyond belief, but man they were fun. I got a C64 very late, like 94-95 or so. Wish I'd held onto it, but I think I sold it. My buddy had a c64 for quite a while and that's where I got most of my exposure. Right around 95 I got a Dx2-66mhz pc and then I was into the WinTel world for good.

Some of those older games, graphically primitive yes, but totally addicting.

I'm just going to link to where I got my info, but let's just say this - I own every major console from the last 25 years, with the exception of anything branded Sony - that's how little of a fan I am of theirs.

But now? They're going to destroy Xbox Live Arcade and Nintendo's Mii's. Holy shit is this huge.

Sony's Key Note GDC Address @ Joystiq

I'm so pissed...my post was awesome and it timed out when I went to post. Oh well, you'll have to hit the jump to read all about it...

Oh yeah, I also had mentioned that Commodore is bringing back the Amiga name to high-end gaming PC's, thought you C64 fans would like that.

Saw this on AOTS last night. Doesn't really impress me. More like a console version of Second Life. It remains to be seen how the developers will integrate it into game play. The million $ question remains: Is it worth more than $1000 all told (hi-def tv, games, etc.) for this? Me, I'm perfectly happy with the $400 or so I spent for my Wii. I don't think it's enough to save this round for Sony.
