I have that power, and I am exercising it now.
Based on my experiences with Dinkins in another forum, I'm seriously tempted to make him a mod in the Off Topic forum.
I believe what Cameron has stated is that he used to prefer full frame transfers for home video back when all displays were 4:3. Stanley Kubrick cited similar preferences, which I read was due to how awful 2001 looked when it was panned and scanned. That's why everything he did after that was shot on Academy ratio stock and was composed not only to look good for matted theater showings, but also look good on home displays with the full frame in view. Now that the majority of displays sold are widescreen, I'm guessing both directors would have different opinions on the matter.
While the full frame transfers of Kubrick's later films are quite nice, I'd like to see a future release (possibly in HD on BluRay) that has both a full frame version in keeping with Kubrick's last known wishes and a matted, anamorphic transfer that reproduces their original theatrical aspect ratios.
The intended aspect ratio of T2 is 2.35:1, not 16:9. A Super 35 frame is 1.66:1 I believe. Mattes are applied to achieve the desired aspect ratio.
The WMV transfer has the mattes in place. The mattes were removed for the 4:3 VCD transfer, which is why you see more vertical information in the capture.

I almost never read. I'm a terrible English major. I did take The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with me to Mexico last week though. First book I've read in years (I'd already read it in junior high over a decade ago).

Forgot about Farscape. Another shining moment from SciFi's past. When I was bedridden for three months after a car accident, I watched Farscape every day along with some other show whose name I can't remember. It was about fighting demons called Morlocks. Loved that one. That was SciFi, wasn't it?

I find that useful as many times threads will have similar names and its a nice 'at a glance' way to see if you have left a psot there without going to your own profile and looking at your post history. Does the new software have anything like that?
This should make it into the first beta. I haven't implemented it yet, but it's on my list.
SciFi was my favorite channel by a country mile back when it first showed up. The Prisoner, Dr. Who, Land of the Giants, Lost In Space, Star Trek, SciFi Buzz...my god. OT Star Wars. The Dune extended cut. The Puppetmaster movies. Harlan Ellison. I totally geeked out. I looked forward to my Sunday night Prisoner fix all week.
Even the original movies were halfway decent. I remember this one called Deep Red with Michael Biehn (The Terminator) that was pretty good.
Now? I bought BSG on DVD after seeing one episode. Haven't had time to watch it yet, but I look forward to it. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about SciFi.
I haven't included poll functionality in this first draft, so the ability to add a poll to an existing thread is certainly something I can keep in mind when I do get to that point.

The part he forgot:
"Except for the whole OT on DVD thing. That was about my needs as a creative person. They're mine, so I can do what I want. But I love you guys, and everything I do, I do it for you. Really."

kev, lay off. For someone who sends me PMs about "annoying" members, you play the role of aggressor too often. You can't attack someone just because they disagree with you.
I seriously can't wait to have the new software done. The ignore function will solve so many problems.
It's probably a good thing it didn't pan out anyway, Dayv. Since the site is a registered business now, anything done in a volunteer capacity might be a difficult situation to handle from a tax perspective.
I'll probably make use of cafepress.com initially and see how it pans out from a profit perspective.

Sometimes, when I'm sitting at my computer and staring at a screen full of code, I want to eat a bullet.
I'm under more pressure now to get the site done because the wedding and holidays put us in a financial pinch and I need to start selling some damn t-shirts or something.
Just wanted to let everyone know how proud I am of the membership here. I would've been pleased if we'd reached a couple hundred dollars, but to get to the $1000 mark is wonderful.
There have been times over the past year when I considered pulling the plug on the site, whether due to financial reasons or lack of time to maintain it properly. This is one of those times--probably the most significant--when I'm really glad I didn't.
I hope each and every one of you, whether you're able to contribute in money or in spirit, has a really incredible Christmas/Hanukkah/whatever and a very prosperous new year.
I don't have a way in this crappy forum software to PM or e-mail everyone at once.
What I can do, if YIYF is willing to extend the deadline, is very quickly build an e-mail app that will let me grab all the e-mail addresses out of the database and e-mail every member. I could probably get it done tonight actually. A bit SPAMmy, but it's for a good cause.
I asked for lots of Star Wars legos. I believe there will be a Star Destroyer and Death Star under the tree for me this year. Various games and DVDs also.
