Blade Runner SE DVD - 2007!
Time
They said the same thing before its 20th anniversary.

I really wish I had come up with the idea of posting bullshit news items and calling them "insider information".

Watch:

"Here's a bit of news that'll make your balls drop...I heard from a stripper at Scores in NYC, who claims to have worked a bachelor party for a Lucasfilm employee late last year, that Lucas is in fact planning to film Episodes VII, VIII, and IX! Here's the kicker: while most of the cast hasn't been chosen yet, the rumor is that Harrison Ford will actually reprise his role as swashbuckler Han Solo!

Shooting is set to begin immediately following the completion of Indy 4. Therefore, it won't actually be the original Harrison Ford playing the part, but his clone, who will have had ample time to grow into a man and take acting lessons following the real Harrison Ford's death. Can't wait! Because I'll probably die in the meantime!"

See, anybody can do it.

Info: Where do you draw the line?
Time
I own Blade Runner on LD and DVD. I will own it when Warner releases it on HD-DVD or BluRay.

I don't feel guilty about downloading a downconversion of the HD broadcast in the meantime, especially considering the quality of the now-ancient DVD release and the legal quagmire that has kept a remastered DVD out of fans' hands. Also note that the HD capture is from a publicly available broadcast. It's not like someone ripped a retail release and posted it.

You need to re-read rule #4 and re-read my response to you in the other thread you trashed: you're reading what you want to read and not what's actually there.

What others do is their business. However, the forum can't afford to enable blatant piracy, so Moth3r, zion and I will discuss these issues. The rules will be rewritten and clarified.

I still think you're a self-righteous little prick.

While that's true, six people still asked for a copy of the official DVD (not an LD rip), and 2 were in the UK.

I see a bunch of people requesting the colorized King Kong, not one of which was asking for a straight rip of the PAL DVD. A couple wanted the NTSC conversion and the rest simply ask for the colorized version of King Kong. I think you're applying the meaning to their posts that you want to rather than reading what's actually there.

I don't know how this discussion got started in this thread in the first place because it doesn't belong here. Take it someplace else. Thread closed.

A member at AVS, a reviewer for dvdfile.com I believe, said the French release looks much better than what we got, but they only got the theatrical cut.

I repeat: Universal comprises the biggest bunch of home video retards ever gathered. Total wankers (that part is new).

I see 6 members ask for a pirated copy of the official DVD, two even admit to being in the UK! Every member could instead purchase the DVD legally.

Thank you for pointing this out. Please note that the initial request was posted before the release of the UK box set with the colorized version; it's possible the poster didn't realize its release was coming about a month later. Subsequent posts seem to discuss the LD rip, not a UK DVD rip. With the UK DVD now available (even if it's only in a box set), the colorized version of King Kong no longer qualifies for "preservation" status.

That post also brought another issue to my attention: official releases in different regions. Since multi-region players are so cheap these days and DVD imports are easy to come by, I don't see the justification behind format conversions (PAL to NTSC, for example) to share with people outside your region. I removed the post offering NTSC conversions of the PAL release and posted a clarification of preservation forum rule #4 to address this issue.

Have you ever seen the extended cut SciFi used to show? From what I hear, it's basically that, but reframed to 2.35:1 (the extended TV cut was 4:3) with some minor tweaks.

What I've heard is that the extended cut will actually be 1.85:1. Don't know if they're masking to do this or what. I'll wait for the reviews before I invest.

Found this at AVS. Basically, 2.35:1 anamorphic for both cuts, with the illustrations in the extended cut cropped to 2.35:1 (examples at the link toward the bottom of the page).

I don't know what to do about it. I want the DVD, but Universal has announced it for HD-DVD as well. Unfortunately, I'm a BluRay supporter, and Universal is still sticking to their HD-DVD-only stance. I'd be kind of pissed if I bought the DVD now and a BluRay release was available later this year. Same thing for Serenity.

You should check out the film before believing what some say about it. Being a "love it or hate it" type of movie, it's certainly not for everyone, but it has its fans. It's ultimately 25% of the film it could've been (and some say would've been had David Lynch been given final cut), but it's still damn cool.

Okay, here's my problem with this. Forum software has gotten to the point where site owners can turn what would be a free-flowing, natural community into the forum equivalent of Chinese government-controlled internet access. Post this. Post that. Don't post this. Don't post that. You can post this, but only on Tuesdays between midnight and 1 a.m. while clenching a Sailor Moon VHS tape in between your ass cheeks.

There's also the ignore functionality that has become very popular in online forums, introduced by vBulletin I believe. I personally can't stand the idea of an ignore function and what it represents (fingers in the ears screaming "Nanny nanny boo-boo!"), but I knew if I didn't include it in the new software, people would throw a shitfit. I come from the old UBB days when you gathered your forces and flamed the shit out of trolls until they either gave up or the mods nuked their account. What can I say? I'm more like young X than MLK that way.

Besides, there are always workarounds. What's to prevent a user from entering a bunch of junk into the text field to get the post to go through? Now, in addition to a simple LOL reply, there's some random trash to go with it.

I'm just a bit fired up because people (not you) complain about the quality of the posts here. So do something about it already! Quit expecting the mods and forum software to shape this place into a community you find acceptable. What do these people do in real life when they have to interact with someone they don't like? There sure as hell isn't an ignore button for that. Why should there be one here?

I almost forgot. No, I don't think I'll implement such a feature

I think you need to read the actual text of the petition letter.

Still, I acknowledge the site's value and purpose have moved beyond the petition into other areas. That's fine with me because a Star Wars DVD petition isn't going to turn a profit all by itself.

shim, the new forum software is not a panacea. Aside from letting people ignore members they find annoying, which is the equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and yelling "Lalalalala!", what will it change about the content? Will originality and creative thinking suddenly spike when the new software goes live?

Forums are what you make them. You want good content and don't see it? Post it. Some of you seem to forget you're part of this community; if you don't see something you like, it's your job to post something you do. greencapt is absolutely correct about rising above the chaff.

You know what my biggest concern is with the membership here? I see a lot of repliers but nowhere near enough posters. Lots of reacting, not enough thinking. Everyone thinking this place has gone to hell should ponder something: when you visit, do you blaze through each forum looking for topics to reply to and then take off, or do you create new topics to foster interesting, thought-provoking discussions? Do you contribute and build, or do you reply and leave?

All I can do is provide the means for everyone to communicate. What you say to each other while you're here is your choice.

As for the guy who basically accused this forum of supporting piracy, he got the response he deserved. You don't sign up at a forum and then proceed to tell the owner and members their community is a den of thieves with questionable morals. Based on his post count, that's all he came here to do.

You can't see it, but there's a tear running down my cheek.

I think the next addition to Dinkins' pic should be Sean Penn crying for the future.
