STAR WARS: LAST OF THE JEDI (fanedit of 'Return of the Jedi' - unfinished project)
Time

Still haven't recieved my DVD of Slipstream from Amazon (god, they're taking forever...), so I still don't know whether or not there's any usable shots of Hamill in that film to use as an older Luke Skywalker - one big worry I have with trying to make a new ending is that I fear it will look too "composited" to work effectively and it won't match the original footage of ROTJ (which was one of Lucas's major problems his new "CGI reworkings" in the OT Special Editions).

I'm back to toying with the idea of ending the film either with the normal ending or with Vader's funeral pyre and having the panning shot of Luke fade to black/starfield and start the credit scroll (with the "normal ending" maybe as an epilogue that plays after the credits... or maybe not, I don't know)

Also, does anyone have any thoughts or possible ideas on what could be done with Boba Fett?

I think this can be helped if we "nicen" Anakin up, starting back in AOTC: cut him talking back at Obi-Wan in the elevator and in Padme's apartmant, cut him arguing with Padme in front of the Queen, add the scenes with Padme's family (Anakin at his nicest here, I think), tone down his creepiness around Padme, imply, but don't show the Tusken slaughter and cut the following confession.

Same goes for ROTS: cut down his whiny and brooding moments (what little there is) before the turn, and take out every display of emotion after the turn, such as him crying on Mustafar.

You'd probably enjoy my fanedits of EP2 and EP3 ("Twilight of the Republic" and "The Black Knight Rises", respectively), since I do most of the changes that you talked about here (except that I completely cut out the Tusken Raiders subplot and Shmi is already dead and buried when Anakin arrives on Tatooine).

And here's the end of the Luke/Vader duel and the Emperor's death - in addition to cutting out the mention of Luke's twin sister (now the "her" in Vader's speech is the person Luke cares the most, Leia), I re-edited the entire sequence so that it doesn't intercut between this scene and the Han/Lando/Rebels attack scenes (which now come after the Emperor's death):

I don't exact what the f**k is going on specifically between FE.org and linktalk, all I know is what Boon23 was discussing over at the FE forum (that his and ab5tract's mod status at linktalk was taken away, that linktalk admin Fellowsurfer was complaining to them via PM about lack of donations to the site, that all references to FE.org have been removed from the "Home Away From Home" thread has been removed, and that the fanedits section was switching over or had already switched over to 'donators only').

Since FE now had the fanedit.info site to store DL links (and I don't want to get super involved in this Boon/Fellowsurfer affair), I'm just going to keep my Prequel DVDs off of linktalk for the time being.

It appears that linktalk is becoming a poor place for fanedit downloads (from the sounds of things, now only donators can see the links, it seems...).

Because of these changes, I ask that people please go to fanedit.info instead if you want to find my SW Prequel DVDs.

I'm looking forward to TBKR, now, though I'm confused as to how the movie's climax will work without the Yoda/Sidious duel (not saying it was  any good, but won't Yoda just sort of vanish, without even trying to stand up to the Emperor?).

I wouldn't say that he "vanishes" from the movie, but his roles in my Prequel edits is essentually that of a side/secondary character to the story, so it doesn't bother me at all that I completely removed his challenging the Emperor, getting his green ass beaten, and retreats from the planet "in exile" (seriously Lucas, he loses once and so he decides never to fight the Emperor again?! What a little green chickensh*t.....)

(the last shot of him in TBKR is him turning away from the dead Padme, BTW)

LOST
Time

Dear lord, that was the single greatest "season finale" that I've seen in the last five years. :)

SPOILERS FOLLOW!!!!

- those first five minutes with Jacob on the beach were incredible - I'm quite amazed that they showed more of Jacob in this episode than I thought they would (enjoyed his visit to Hurley the best), but who/what exactly is he, why does the Man in Black want him dead, what's with all the Egyptian art/themes... god, this is going to be frying my mind till 2010.

- who the hell is this Man in Black? What is his relationship to Jacob? Why does he have to find a "loophole" in order to kill him? I'm really hoping the Island doesn't turn out to be some God/Satan/Eden/Angels/etc-type of situation, but after this episode... I really don't know anymore.

- "ille qui nos omnes servabit" roughly translates to "the one who will save us all."

- the Jack/Sawyer fight was a long time coming and for the most part I enjoyed it, but this whole Jack/Kate/Sawyer/Juliet thing really needs to be done with (I had hoped that Juliet would've disappeared from the show completely after her fall, but after the last 5 minutes, I kinda now doubt it)

- so John Locke really did die at Ben's hands and the Locke we've been watching for the last 5-6 episodes is really the Man in Black posing as John Locke in order to get Ben to kill Jacob. Granted, it makes for one amazing mindf*ck moment at the end, but I'm going to be pissed if Locke is completely gone from next season.

JasonN,

Will there be torrents for the final DVDs? I've gotten interested in checking out your edits from all the buzz (or is it "fuss") they've caused in this thread ;)

I'm looking forward to watching your edit of Episode III. I've come to realize that Episode III is the true litmus test of a PT fanedit.

I haven't seen this mentioned, but in Episode III did you remove Dooku's stupid flip-jump from the balcony before the duel? God how I hate that.

If there are torrents of the DVDs, I won't re responsible for making them since the upload speeds of my internet are terrible.

I'd wait to watch the DVD version of EP3 since I did some scene rearrangement and one scene deletion to the fanedit after I made the AVI version.

Yes, I deleted the "Dooku flip" shot from the Duel sequence. ;)

You assume that there can actually BE rogue Jedi, which no where in the cannon has been stated there are any. (Ki-Adi Mundi calls him a political idealist not a murderer but we know what happens next in the original movie), second I said "whatever you wanna call him" because I knew you would nit pick at what I say, let's keep a broad sense here. Anyone who uses the Force for evil reasons yes should be considered evil *as in sith* (if you disagree that's a different argument), evil as in provoque war, taking hostage Obi1 and using the (yes!) sith lightning since Yoda who is just as powerful if not more than Dooku NEVER used it, the only other Force-user to use the lightning is Darth Sidious, a sith. Obi-Wan cuts off the arms in self defense, you can argue Dooku was using it in self defense to, but then why not just spar? after all they are using lightsabers not blasters like Zam and with Dr Evazan we don't know what he was going to pull out, the Bartender yelled "no blasters" but that happens so quick that we don't know, but with Dooku We DO know, they where sparring and Dooku went for the cutting move. One quick burst makes no difference *he just used the Dark side once* c'mon, it's sith lightning, if you don't see it how that is more evil than hurling your enemies then you should understand what sith lightning does, EU you argue? fine, then don't but it does affect more than hurling. More so, if you wanna keep Dooku a "rogue Jedi" (which you can in the end whatever..) why would a Rogue Jedi be in league with Darth Sidious, we know the separatists where with him (Grievous talks to him as Master) and he was with the separatists. To take Doooku out of the sith order as it seems you wanna go it's not just changing his color and leaving out the "sith parts" it's also about behavior.....

.... did you even watch my EP2 edit?

1. There is absolutely NO MENTION of Dooku or the Seperatists being in league with or serving Darth Sidious
in this fanedit: in fact, they are rebelling against the Republic BECAUSE of the threat of Darth Sidious and his gaining power over the Galactic Senate/Senators.

2A. Unless it's specifically called "Sith Lightning" (which it isn't) or specifically stated that that ability is linked to the Dark Side (which it isn't) directly in the films themselves, then I'm going to assume that it's a high-level Force ability.

2B. At one point, Dooku actually refers to it as a "Jedi power" when talking to Obi-Wan.

2C. I don't know, care about, or have any interest in the EU and I have no intention of using any of it in my SW fanedits.

Religion has nothing to do with dispatching the two Jedi, Obi-Wan is a threat on a political level since he knows the TF Viceroy is behind the attempt on Padme's life, Obi-Wan was a hostage, from every point of view if he is starting a war, which is why he is building so many battle droids, if he leaves two Jedi out there they could heal and come after him, tactics in war dictate he should have finished them, religion or no religion, at that point they were beyond politics and right into open war tactics, and tacts indicate dispatch your heavy threats....leaving that just makes him a weak character.

So choosing not to slay an opponent because they're no longer pose a threat, because they were trained in the same noble Order of Jedi that you were/are in, and because all you want to do is escape without confrontation with said Order makes you a weak character?

Sh*t, I guess then because Anakin choose to slaughter over a dozen children because they might become a potental threat to the Emperor, that makes him a STRONG character.... :/

Jason, what do you think about cutting the library scene and the "right where it's supposed to be" reference?  Those two things really do make the whole Kamino subplot more confusing in your edit.  If all he has to go on is the name, and it's been erased from the Archives, how does he know where it is?  Better to assume he got the location from the Archives.  It doesn't really hurt anything in my opinion, it just helps the understanding of that subplot.

Maybe I'll cut the "right where it's supposed to be" line, but I'm extremely hesitent on cutting the library scenes, as it serves as a setup for the later "Obi-Wan/Mace" scene and the "deletion of Kamino" subplot plays a bit into the "Syfo-Dias/Clone Army Conspiracy" subplots (obviously, someone's trying to hide information on Kamino from the Jedi by deleting the Archive records of the planet)

i was wondering what you think about his take on the prequels. i liked the way he overdubbed gungans and feds, and the story-changes that came along with that. however: since i prefer your edit as a whole, i was just curious to know if you were in any way considering to incorporate some of his ideas into a possible future re-do of your edits?

I'm not really a fan of MagnoliaFan's edits -  he had some interesting ideas here and there, but I thought the alien redubbing was poorly executed (it's a nice idea, but my hearing can tell too often when the voices have been changed due to imperfections in the soundtrack, sound effects, etc), I utterly HATED the Jar-Jar dialogue rewrites (no character should be saying "sh*t" or calling a child a "little bastard" in a SW movie, in my opinion), and he should've edited a lot more crap out of the films.

Jedi Dark Knight said:

certain scenes look ackward with the droids looking at each other silent, I agree there's no need for those stupid "roger roger" dialogues, but maybe an "alien" language that is creepy enough...like that probe droid sounds....same could go for the Neimoidians, with subtitles, their sounds could be more threatening...and it would enhance your edit more.

I mentioned this all before numerous times, but I'm not changing the Trade Federation voices - I felt it was too difficult (if not outright impossible) to do redub the aliens in a 5.1 surround mix at a quality that was 100% seemless and that I was 100% satisfied with (again, it's one of the reasons why I don't care for MF's edit).

Jedi Dark Knight said:

As your edit goes Count Dooku dispatches 2 JEDI single handedly and then for no reason he escapes while Padme is just arriving. In the original we know it's because Yoda just owned him, but since in your edit Yoda never came to the rescue, Dooku could've taken out both Jedi, Padme and the Clones.....it doesn't make sense why he would escape.

Same reasons that Akwat Kbrana listed.

Jedi Dark Knight said:

You do realize that those arguments actually prevent any improvement? I hate the "pleased to meet you" crap too but something could be done, like cutting the line down to "you are a jedi too?" and then going to Qui-Gon, or cutting it to "pleased to meet you" downing  the pitch and leaving it....I mean just cutting won't do it, some "Adywan-style" reworkings (like FX, sound, etc) must be done.....

And the great name of Adywan is brought into the thread, once again making me and all other faneditors seem like complete and utter pigsh*t in the presence of the supreme god-child... :P

On a serious note, just cutting one line out of Anakin's sentence or pitching his voice to be lower does not change the fact that "You're a Jedi too? Please to meet you!" is a terrible crap-ass of a scene and the sequence DOES WORK BETTER without it (I also don't think Qui-Gon's reaction is out of place either, but whatever...)

Why would the empire need camo. They were not really expecting an attack. They were just standing around guarding the generator.

Actually, they were expecting an attack. It was the emperor who allowed the rebels to know the location of the shield generator, and an entire legion of his best troops awaited them. For this reason, I'm afraid the deflector shield was quite operational when Luke's friends arrived.

And yet they still got their asses handed to them by a bunch of teddy bears using arrows and rocks.... sorry Emperor, I must call "bullsh*t" on that one. :P

Forgot to mention this, but I'm probably going to remove the readded-deleted scene of "Padme confronting Palpatine in his office" in EP3:

Yeah, it's nice to see more of Padme in the film, but I realize now that the scene doesn't really add anything to the story and I think it's better if Anakin starts distrusting Padme at the end of the film (so that he no longer trusts the one person he once cared for the most). Plus, having the scene in the film seems to screw up chronological continuity (not just the "Obi-Wan engaging" Grevious" part, but the Coruscant scenes go from Day to Evening to Day when technically it shouldn't)
